25.01.2022 I had never seen these weird cabbage flowers before. But I love them :)

22.01.2022 Please see below link to FREE online conference this weekend. It can be used for BAA ceu level 2 so you still need to do 8 points (1 day) face to face with some one else but it can cover 12 points for the year. It's organised by Faradi Irani and topics are health, yoga, ayrevedic related. Not bowen specific but some knowledge like breathwork, stress relief, meditation could easily be integrated for positive client responses with their bowen treatment.

16.01.2022 Reminder for Cairns therapists Gael Cox is running a practitioner weekend for you locally at Cairns RSL this weekend 6&7 July. It is the ONLY workshop coming to cairns this year. So if your due for revision, need points or to reconnect with your bowen skills, book in now. She will demonstrate, revise and practise every procedure from modules 1 to 7. Also great to spend time with other therapists and discuss case studies, how to promote your business, deal with difficult cases etc.

15.01.2022 This is a bit of a cry for help from us. In this photo is me Jake with Koda in my arms and Storm who we lost just last week. Koda was my husky that began this c...razy game and Storm was the best lead dog I have or I believe ever will get to work with. These dogs sent me on this crazy journey from a hobby to a lifestyle not an easy lifestyle but not one I or my family ever intend to change. We have struggled and struggled over the years but I explain to a lot of people that some people race cars and spend all their money on that, we spend ours on dogs. With the current COVID-19 first we lost our income from our performances at shows stopping, then our Glamping business was packed up and now we have a lot of people all wanting refunds for bookings as far ahead as August. This has hit so many people all over the world extremely hard. For us it has completely stopped all our income but our daily costs have not changed. We currently have 85 dogs, majority of our dogs are rescue dogs that we have taken on from pounds or rescue groups and we have some that we have rehomed privately. The cost per day per dog does not change just because the world around us stops. Each dog costs us around $1.40 per day that’s about $511 per dog per year for our kennel the cost is just under $44,000 per year that is just our food bill this does not include any other costs like kennels and yards, transport and equipment costs or things like Vet bills that are another huge cost per year. So with everything coming to a stop I am now reaching out to our supporters for help. If you’re in a similar position and out of work then just a share of this post will be a massive help. For anyone who might want to help a little we have some great merchandise on our online shop! https://howlinghuskysshop.square.site For anyone who might be in a position and have a special little dog of ours they like we now have set up sponsorship for our dogs! Find out more here http://www.howlinghuskys.com.au/sponsor-us From Kiri, Zev, Kai, all our Crew, dogs and I Thank you to everyone who has supported us though the years and to everyone helping out now. Stay safe everyone and please Stay home! Jake. The Crazy Dog Guy

14.01.2022 Beautifully said. "That's what I do, not what I am" goes for all professions I think. You are not what you do. You are something much more special, unique, authentic than what you do.

11.01.2022 Apparently Smooch has had too many cuddles from clients today and is plain worn out. Lol. Time for a catnap. Relaxing clinic atmosphere strikes again :)

10.01.2022 Made the most of the beautiful tropical weather at Palm Cove reef feast last weekend before heading down south this week.

10.01.2022 I am back from Melbourne and in the clinic as usual :)I am back from Melbourne and in the clinic as usual :)

09.01.2022 I hope everyone is ok and finding positive ways to adapt to restrictions, changes and challenges. I am still not treating clients at this stage but will let you know as soon as I am. Stay safe, take care and practise some of the self care skills I know you have. Kind regards Debbie

09.01.2022 ‘There is a direct biological connection between movement and cognitive function...exercise is the single most powerful tool you have to optimize your brain fun...ction.’ -John Ratey (Spark) ____ I changed the quite a bit on the pic. There is a difference between exercise and movement. Exercise is just one form of movement. It’s a human made repetitive stereotyped pattern of movement ____ Look at the rest of nature. You never see nun-humans doing anything resembling exercise. They hunt, gather, play, fight , flee but never do reproduce movements to stay in shape. They move their bodies for pleasure, explore to stay alive __ Exercise is optional. Movement is essential. ‘Work movement, or muscles.’ -Vern Gambetta ___ We think with the whole body. The brain learns via movement. Just watch a baby. They never stop. All education is physical education ___ What kind of movement is goos? It’s all good. Variation. Variability and Variety. The 3V’s. ____ Move with what I call the 4M motion. 1. Move more of yourself 2. More often 3. More ways 4. 08.01.2022 I will be in Victoria with family cleaning up dads property till the end of the year.I will be in Victoria with family cleaning up dads property till the end of the year.

07.01.2022 Here comes spring, warmer days, displays of flowers, longer daylight and a runway to summer. I love our tropical flowers and sunshine filled days.

06.01.2022 I just recieved an email from BAA saying they can't tell Bowen Therapists to close. I am not a doomsday panicker but I strongly believe we should stop working on clients immediately. Quite frankly you don't know who is a unsymptomatic carrier. We don't work on people with contagious flu etc why would we risk ourselves and our clients with covid 19?? I am pleased to see many Bowen Therapists already ceasing treating clients.

05.01.2022 The world is a bit of a scary place right now.. Here's a minute of the most peaceful place I can think of.. best with sound on! Ancient rainforest streams, 1000m in the mountains, away from the chaos..

05.01.2022 So incredibly happy and proud to have had the opportunity to support this project. I love Bowen. I love helping people with Bowen. I love that this movie will introduce Bowen Therapy to so many people who hopefully can also be helped with Bowen. Xx

04.01.2022 I am disappointed to hear BAA are receiving lashback for not doing more to get the government to allow us to work. It's rediculous to me any therapist would throw that out there in this current climate. We are HEALTH workers. We need to protect our clients health. We are not saving lives we are not essential. We are all suffering financially which sucks but it's not worth risking cross contamination between clients which could be fatal!!! It's not worth risking catching it yourself and taking it home to your family. Anywhere between 20% to 50% of positive cases can be with NO symptoms. Please people sit tight a little longer. Take care of yourselves. Be responsible and try to stay calm and adapt so you will get through this. Don't project your fear and blame, things are wobbly enough.

03.01.2022 2019 NOBEL PRIZE IN PHYSIOLOGY #MedicalResearch Just look at this incredible clip showing how the entire abdominal & pelvic cavity moves with breathing! The ...quality of your breathing mechanics is far wider reaching than just your lungs. The diaphragm is a huge massaging muscle on the gut contents. Therefore, improving breathing mechanics & diaphragm function has the potential to improve digestive, renal, adrenal, liver, uterine, ovarian, pelvic floor, bowel & bladder function. Pretty breathtaking dontcha think!? The 2019 Nobel Prize in physiology was awarded 4 days ago to William G. Kaelin Jr., Sir Peter J. Ratcliffe & Gregg L. Semenza for their newest discoveries that revealed the mechanism for one of life’s most essential adaptive processes. They established the basis for our understanding of how oxygen levels affect cellular metabolism & physiological function. The practical application of this discovery means breathing exercises that can improve oxygen levels (like the Wim Hof Method - The Iceman (Wim Hof)) can impact anemia, cancer, stoke, infection, wound healing & myocardial infarctions!! For our science nerds, they discovered how the von Hippel-Lindau gene (VHL gene), a tumor suppressor gene, regulates a newly discovered complex that was named hypoxia-inducible factor (HIF). HIF was discovered by these scientists because they were researching the hormone erythropoietin (EPO). The 1938 Nobel Prize in Physiology to Corneille Heymans awarded discoveries showing how blood oxygen sensing via the carotid body controls our respiratory rate by communicating directly with the brain. A key physiological response to hypoxia (when the body or a region of the body is deprived of adequate oxygen supply at the tissue level) is the rise in levels of the hormone erythropoietin (EPO), which leads to increased production of red blood cells (erythropoiesis) - an example of this is high altitude training. How this process was itself controlled by O2 remained a mystery until now! Semenza helped to identify the cellular components mediating this response (which led to the discovery of HIF). It turns out that when O2 levels are high, cells contain very little HIF. However, when oxygen levels are low, the amount of HIF-1 increases so that it can bind to & thus regulate the EPO gene as well as other genes. Several research groups showed that HIF-1, which is normally rapidly degraded, is protected from degradation in hypoxia. At normal oxygen levels, a cellular machine called the proteasome, recognized by the 2004 Nobel Prize in Chemistry to Aaron Ciechanover, Avram Hershko and Irwin Rose, degrades HIF-1. At about the same time as Semenza & Ratcliffe were exploring the regulation of the EPO gene, cancer researcher William Kaelin, Jr. was researching an inherited syndrome, von Hippel-Lindau’s disease (VHL disease). He helped discover that VHL was somehow involved in controlling responses to hypoxia. Additional clues came from several research groups showing that VHL is part of a complex that labels proteins with ubiquitin, marking them for degradation in the proteasome. Ratcliffe and his research group then made a key discovery: demonstrating that VHL can physically interact with HIF-1 and is required for its degradation at normal oxygen levels. This conclusively linked VHL to HIF-1. In english, this explains how oxygen sensing allows our cells to adapt their metabolism to low oxygen levels: for example, in our muscles during intense exercise. Other examples of adaptive processes controlled by oxygen sensing include the generation of new blood vessels & the production of red blood cells. Our immune system & many other physiological functions are also fine-tuned by the O2-sensing machinery. Oxygen sensing has even been shown to be essential during fetal development for controlling normal blood vessel formation & placenta development. The awarded mechanism for oxygen sensing has fundamental importance in physiology! Many pathological processes are also affected. Intensive efforts are ongoing to develop new ways that can either inhibit or activate the oxygen-regulated machinery for treatment of anemia, cancer & other diseases! In the meantime, deep breathing is one fundemental way we can use this mechanism to enhance our function!!! #MEDspiration Written by: Nav Badesha, M.D. 10/11/2019 All Rights Reserved.
