18.01.2022 Today we honour St Andrew the Apostle. A Galilean fisherman of Bethsaida, Andrew was initially a disciple of John the Baptist, but one day he heard John identif...y Jesus as the Lamb of God. HIs immediate response was then to not only follow Jesus, but then persuade his brother who went on to become our first Pope, Simon Peter, to also do so. In this sense, St Andrew the Apostle is an inspiring evangelist who teaches us that faith, like love, desperately needs to be shared with others. It cannot be privatised if it is alive at all.St Andrew the Apostle, pray for us!

11.01.2022 OUR LADY OF CZESTOCHOWA - QUEEN OF POLAND The Icon of the Black Madonna, it is an Icon of Our Lady in the Byzantine Style. The Icon owes its dark appearance and its title of black Madonna to the centuries of candle smoke and incense that have been burned in its sight. The icon came to Poland by the means of Wadysaw, the Duke of Opole, in 1382.... Wadysaw invited our Pauline order from Hungry to come to Poland and found the Monastery of Jasna Gra to keep custody of the Icon and protect it. Interestingly enough the Icon has had a perilous history, with it being shot in the neck by a Tatar arrow and having its cheek slashed by the blade of a Hussite. The most notable episode that placed the Icon in jeopardy was the siege of Jasna Gra in 1655. Was the Swedish Invasion of Poland. All of Poland can be have said to have either joined the Swedes or capitulated to them. The Swedes unable to break the fortress eventually gave up and withdrew. The Poles have attributed this miracle to the intercession of the back Madonna. Inspired by the resolve of the Monks and the few remaining loyalist Soldiers, King Jan Kazimierz (John Casimir), resolved to entrust his kingdom to the Black Madonna and solemnly named her Queen of Poland. Czestochowa Shrine is the heart of Polish Catholicism and spiritual capital of Poland since 1382. The destination of annual pilgrimages uniting thousands of hundreds of Polish believers under holy Jasna Gora hill Claramontana (lat.) Clear Mountain. The place visited and blessed by the three consecutive Popes: John Paul II, Benedict XVI and Francis. Our Lady of Czestochowa, Queen of Poland, pray for us.

11.01.2022 Canberras beloved Soup Lady Stasia Dabrowski has died at age 94. Since 1979, she gave a warm meal to those in need with her vats of vegetable soup no salt,... no pepper, no extras, just pure vegetables. She was named ACT Local Hero in 2017 for her tireless charity, the 1999 ACT Senior Australian of the Year, Citizen of the Year in 1996, and received an Order of Australia medal. We had the pleasure of meeting Stasia a few times and have put this video together from our archives.

04.01.2022 Friends, today we celebrate the Memorial of Our Lady of Sorrows. Todays Memorial expresses to us the special union between Jesus and Mary. Yesterday we celebr...ated the Feast of the Holy Cross in which we recalled the finding of the true Cross and the power that the Cross has for us. Naturally today we commemorate the sorrows of Mary in which we recall Mary at the foot of the Cross looking at the her Son the saviour die for our salvation. Her sorrow at Our Lords death is a reminder of Marys maternal love and care not only for Jesus, but to us all. Mary as a true Mother shares in our joys and also in our sorrows. Therefore let us on this day call upon the help of Mary under the title of "Our Lady of Sorrows" to carry our burdens and present them to her Son the crucified Lord. +Columba

01.01.2022 Pope St John Paul the Great wrote that people who are willing to die for truth become like Christ himself and have throughout history helped our Church to survi...ve and to grow. One powerful role model for us all in recent history is St Maximilian Kolbe, the Polish priest who sacrificed his own life to save a younger man who was a husband and father as he faced certain execution at the Nazi concentration camp of Auschwitz. May the story of St Maximilians death teach us how we are called to live as Christians: In faith, hope and love to the end. St Maximilian Kolbe, pray for us!
