16.01.2022 This illustration shows one of the common causes of neck soreness and upper back tension these days. The head weighing about 4-5-5kg when upright, can put strain equivalent to 27-30kg (i.e 60lbs) on the neck when leaning forward to 60 degrees. This is an immense strain on the neck and back muscles. So put the phone down and look out!

12.01.2022 Private Health Insurance Reforms As you may be aware, the Australian Government announced a wide-ranging package of Reforms to private health insurance. As part of these Reforms, Rules have been introduced to remove natural therapies from the definition of general treatment under section 121-10 of the Private Health Insurance Act 2007. This will mean you will no longer be able to claim a health rebate for Bowen therapy. From 1 April 2019, some natural therapies will no longer... covered under private health insurance policies. These natural therapies are Alexander technique, aromatherapy, Bowen therapy, Buteyko, Feldenkrais, herbalism (Western), homeopathy, iridology, kinesiology, naturopathy, Pilates, reflexology, Rolfing, shiatsu, tai chi, and yoga*. It’s quite sad and illogical to me that the Australian Government no longer support the therapies that help to keep us healthy, and thereby easing the congestion on the public health system. 08.01.2022 Why I love doing Bowen therapy...an elderly client said to me after her second treatment, that [Bowen] "has made me feel like living again".

01.01.2022 I read an article in New Scientist whilst on holiday as I spent many hours in a truck travelling through the southern part of Africa. This article about awe really struck me as I grappled to find words to describe to family and friends what I had seen on my trip, apart from awesome!. A researcher, Dacher Kettner, at Univ of California published the first scientific definition of awe in 2003, and they described it as the feeling we get when confronted with something that t...ranscends our frame of reference and that we struggle to understand. It’s a feeling that combines amazement with an edge of fear. That certainly described some of the scenes and the wildlife I had seen. But what led me to share this with you is that their research about ‘awe’ showed that it can have many personal benefits. Kettner found that awe produces a vanishing self, and the voice of self-interest disappears, so you feel more connected with bigger groups. He found that feeling awe made people happier and less stressed, even weeks later, and it assists the immune system by cutting the production of cytokines which promote inflammation. Another study also found that it activates the parasympathetic nervous system (rest and relax). So now I see why I can feel relaxed after my trip even after spending weeks on a truck driving on corrugated dirt roads! I think we all need to feel some awe in our lives, and it doesn’t need to be a trip to a new place, just taking the time to marvel at a sunrise or the Sarus cranes flying overhead is enough.

01.01.2022 A big day of demonstrating Bowen therapy to visitors to the TRC's Well-being Expo today. A great event..well done Tablelands Regional Council!

01.01.2022 I have closed my business for now until this virus has been beaten. On the Table Therapies has also closed. I wish you all good health and best wishes to get through the next few months.

01.01.2022 Like many people this year I have had to rethink employment options and plan for an uncertain future, as best as one can. My current part time work is coming to an end so I have accepted a full time position in environmental management (my other work) for the short term. This means that Sadly I will no longer be doing Bowen therapy one day a week in Atherton. In the meantime I will continue to study to further my understanding of fascia and bodywork and how Bowen works on the body. My intention is to return to practicing Bowen on a regular basis in the future. So until then then, a huge thank you to all my clients and especially my regulars who have supported me over the past few years. I shall miss you! My last day in the Pink St clinic will be 23 Nov.
