24.01.2022 Another coast somewhere on the west coast. Acrylic on canvas for Pete to hang in his Karratha digs. Back south tomorrow. #heatherdunnartist #seascape #seascapepainting #westaustralianbeaches
23.01.2022 Things are starting to look finished. Woven Tapestries with cloth collage and cyanotype, a bit of contact printing as well. #wip #woventapestry #tapestryweaving #tapestryweaversofinstagram #slowstitch #cloth #collage #collageart #textileart #textilearts #textileartist #heatherdunnartist
22.01.2022 Sunset at Freo, with south mole lighthouse in the distance. Twilight was lovely too. #heatherdunnartist #freo
22.01.2022 Looks like Lorikeets have a thing for Mulberry trees. The white ones are fruiting now. #heatherdunnartist #lorikeetsofinstagram #australianbirds
22.01.2022 Another tapestry finished of the west Australian coast. After a visit to Lancelin last week, finding more rubbish rope to weave when I get back east, and more inspiration to weave. #heatherdunnartist #seascape #seascapeart #tapestryweaversofinstagram #tapestryweaving #textileart #textileart #textileartist #westaustralianbeaches
22.01.2022 I’m starting to think about collage again. So the ironing board is out and the box of fabric is being turned upside down. Somehow it comes together. #heatherdunnartist #wip #slowstitch #collage #collageart #cloth
20.01.2022 Auditioning more cloth. I’m trying to find the amazing turquoise of the shallows along the west coast, the sand is so white. This one might move to the next step. #heatherdunnartist #slowstitch #textileart #textiles #collage #collageart #textileartist #wip #abstract #abstractart #abstractlandscapes #abstract
18.01.2022 I had a bit of time where the sun shone. These cyanotypes are on fabric that had been treated about 10 days ago. They still produced some good results, tho the leaves are a bit muted. Hands down one of my favourite things to do. The squiggly lines are pressed seaweed. #heatherdunnartist #cyanotypes #cyanotype #blueprint #prussianblue #skeletonleaves #pressedseaweedart
16.01.2022 Yesterday Pete and I strolled around one of the many regional parks around Perth to enjoy the bush and the flowers. We even saw some Superb Blue wrens. The males are all dressed up in their insanely blue breeding plumage. Spring is in the air. #heatherdunnartist #bushwalkingaustralia
16.01.2022 The next Tapestry in this series is taking shape. Really, the shallows around here are turquoise although this will tone down a bit with the deep water blue blending into it. I’m having fun with irregular line work in this one. #heatherdunnartist #woventapestry #tapestryweaversofinstagram #tapestryart #landscape #seascape #coastalart #wip #textileoftheday #textileartist #textileart #westaustralianbeaches #westaustralianart
14.01.2022 I’m back in Desert Pea country again. Gosh I’ve missed this place and thought I wouldn’t get up here this year with all the virus madness going on. We managed to sneak in a week before it heats up and the bush flies come out to play. #heatherdunnartist #karratha #wawildflowers #wawildflowerseason2020 #desertwildflowers
13.01.2022 I’ve just been to the @fremantleartscentre and seen this exhibition by @michelle_hamer My goodness it’s fabulous and sadly so many of the phrases she has identified resonate with my experience over a lifetime. Exquisite work. #slowstitch #textiles #textileart #handstitching @tapestry.girl
13.01.2022 We’ve been stuck in COVID limbo in Fremantle since June. Tho it’s got plenty of upsides we miss everyone back east. Including these two. I’m drawing them for Pete to take up to Karratha, and it’s slowly emerging. Getting Sandy’s coat colour right is a bit of a challenge. The great news is these two are heading west in October to join us in limbo. In time for swimming at the beach #heatherdunnartist #charcoaldrawing #drawing #wip #dogdrawing #pasteldrawing #drawingdogs
12.01.2022 A few days ago we drove down to Rockingham. At a lookout we spotted a pod of dolphins swimming in the shallows. The fishermen on the beach gave up and packed up once they realised the the dolphins had checked out the spot. How clear is the water?? #heatherdunnartist #coastline #coastalliving #westaustralianbeaches
12.01.2022 These two will come off the loom tomorrow I’m hoping. My slightly rubbished turquoise coastlines have a way to go, and I’m enjoying mixing colour. #heatherdunnartist #wip #woventapestry #woventapestryart #wovenart #woventextiles #tapestryweaving #tapestryweaversofinstagram #tapestryweaver #seascape #seascapeart #woolweaving #silkweaving #loomweaving
11.01.2022 I’m starting to audition cloth for the next stage in these compositions. These ones are thinking about the sandstones at Kalbarri WA. #heatherdunnartist #slowstitch #collage #collageart #silk #abstractart #abstractlandscape
11.01.2022 More looking through the forest of trees. Down south around Pemberton. Lots of inspiration for future work. #heatherdunnartist #trees #swforests #karriforest
08.01.2022 Hmmm. I think I could do with some more work space. Collages are emerging again, but it’s a messy process rummaging through cloth to find the right little morsel. #heatherdunnartist #collage #clothcollage #wipart #wip #textileart #textileartist #textiles #recyclecloth
07.01.2022 Here’s the next Tapestry in this series. I’ve enjoyed mixing colours in this one. It’s reference is a photo of the coastline around Cervantes on the West Australian coast. The turquoise in these shallows is amazing. I’ve kept the sky clear to reference the changing climate, where the winter here has once again been dry as the high pressures are blocking meaningful cold fronts. Once again beach rubbish features as well. Trouble in paradise. 13cm wide, 19cm high, cotton, silk, wool, polyprop rope rubbish. #heatherdunnartist #woventapestry #tapestryweaversofinstagram #tapestryart #landscape #coastalart #coastalartist #textileoftheday #textileartistsofinstagram #textileart #textileartist #woolart
07.01.2022 It’s a bit blowy outside today, so I dragged the paints out and put brush to canvas to see if I could find that elusive turquoise green that this amazing coastline has. It’s not finished, I’m waiting for it to dry before adding some glazes. I haven’t painted in ages. It’s been fun. #heatherdunnartist #wip #seascape #seascapepainting #wacoastline #acrylicpainting #landscapepainting
06.01.2022 This little painting is finished. 30 x 30cm acrylic on canvas. Untitled (lonely figure on a west Australian beach). I might weave something along these lines. #heatherdunnartist #acrylicpainting #acrylic #seascape #seascapepainting #landscape #landscapepainting #westaustralianbeaches #westaustralianart
05.01.2022 After a few days away I have finished the weaving on this. On the way to Cervantes . Cotton warp, wool, silk, cotton, beach rubbish in the weft. The first in a series of horizons looking west. 13x19.5cm. #heatherdunnartist #tapestryweaving #tapestryweaversofinstagram #seascape #westaustralianbeaches #westaustralianart #slowart
04.01.2022 I have finished the weaving of these two, now to be cut off and finished. The first of a series of coastal views of my travels along the west coast. Near Cervantes, both are wool, silk, cotton, beach found poly prop rope strands, on a cotton warp. 13cm wise and 19cm high on a 12/18 warp. I like the courser sett, so I don’t get tempted down the rabbit hole of detail. #heatherdunnartist #woventapestry #tapestryweaversofinstagram #tapestryart #landscape #coastalart #textileoftheday #textileartist #textileart
01.01.2022 I had a day out with a friend at Kings Park, the absolute jewel in Perth’s crown. The botanical gardens are just stunning. #heatherdunnartist #wildflowers #kingsparkperth
01.01.2022 When I did a workshop with the fabulous @casholmestextiles what seems like an age ago, she talked about auditioning cloth before bringing the composition together. It’s a lovely process of rummaging through cloth and fragments, ironing bits (or not), leaving them on the table to glance at for a few days. Adjust, add delete, maybe even start again. This one is an audition of the forests I have walked through while here, watching wrens dart in front of me and craning my neck to see the canopy above. The cloth is op shop finds, some quilting fabric, some silk ribbon, some vintage Japanese blue. This one may end up more representational than others. I don’t know, as this is just the beginning. #heatherdunnartist #collage #clothcollage #textile #textileartist #textileart #wip #landscapeart
01.01.2022 A few days ago near Rockingham south of Fremantle. I’m going to have to revisit this spot. #heatherdunnartist #coastal #coastallandscape
