25.01.2022 Lest we forget! We will remember them all throughout all the wars. The soldiers, civilians and animals that were lost throughout history.

25.01.2022 Looks like the Queen may soon be on job seeker! Now that we got your attention. The Queen may soon be forced to resign from her position as top dog. In the middle of this frame is a superseder cell. The larvae is still in the base of the cell and the bees are starting to build more cell. This is a good thing and a bad thing. The Queen in our hive has been replaced several times by her own brood. They hated her so much they kicked her out and replaced her again and again. ... To us this is natures way of saying you not good enough so get out. The hive needs more brood. We will soon tell if their plan has worked. #beesforinstagram #supersedercell #queenbee #replacinghermajesty #amazinginsects #rebelbees #newqueencomingsoon #southerhighlandsnsw #bowralnsw @bowralbeeco

25.01.2022 Well our Lemon Myrtle has had quite a few visits from our European Honey Bees affectionately known as Apis Mellifera for those insect lovers out there. It’s a sure sign that if the world doesn’t clean up their act and the bees die off we won’t be around soon after that either. Our mates have pollinated nearly every flowering plant on the planet except for a few natives here in Australia. In the background you will hear the sounds of Gus. Gus is a cockatoo who flew into our w...orld out of shear desperation for food after the bush fires and has visited each day since then just to say hi. I love living surrounded by the sights and sounds of nature. It’s just beautiful being here. The bees love it here too. We do get our fair share of native bush bees in the summer months but as the cold air starts rolling in, in the next few weeks we won’t see them till later this year when the weather warms up again. #europeanbees #amazinginsects #pollinators #nativebees #lemonmyrtle #australiannativeplants #australiannativeflowers #closetonature #countryliving #amazingwildlife #beekeeping #backyardbeekeeping #southernhighlandsnsw #australia @bowralbeeco See more

23.01.2022 It’s that time of the month again. #inspectionday Haven’t bothered for weeks and weeks since the rains have been here. Had a good sniff around. Lately the bee smell has been intoxicating at the front entrance which can mean only one thing - thousands of bees.... Well we were right. There’s a huge population boom at the moment. More drones that you can imagine in our last inspection a month back have been replaced by a huge amount of workers. Honey stocks have dwindled down as these bees have realised that if they continue to lay drones there won’t be any food left. So they’ve made the most brilliant decision of their existence to eradicate the poor old Queen (Elizabeth) and replace her with a new one (Kate). We’ve been asking around for a while now for new queens but each time our cry’s for help from various associations and suppliers have fallen on deaf ears. So our bees have done the job on their own. Look what happened. Here’s the scene. Four tier box, two brood boxes plus two supers. Supers are now empty. Thank you drones for being greedy little piggies. The conclusion is simple. We had to help them sort out their problems. We removed a huge amount of drawn comb. Replaced with empty frames between drone frames. We removed the excluder and allowed her majesty to decide which level suited her best. In the end she settled on level two. Queen excluder went back in. Ground level nobody at home. Level two thousands of drones and the old queen. Levels 3 and 4 a combination of nurse bees and worker brood plus honey. A month on. Ground level all brood. Level 1 all brood. Level 4 empty. Level 3 being filled with food stores. Mostly pollen and little bit of honey. So we removed level 4 completely as our swarm prevention plan worked and now we have 3 tiers of pure happiness. From crazy bees that sting to complete calm. #beekeeping #keepcalm #wesorteditoutonourown #ladiesandgentlethebeesong @bowralbeeco

23.01.2022 Since our Christmas candle launch at the start of this month. We’ve been inundated with questions about all sorts of things. This is the answer to one about 650g Christmas candles. This year we have a selection of two. We tried to get Santa on his slay again but he was busy wrapping presents for all the children this year. A few stockists in the area have these on the shelf so keep an eye out for them. So we have these two varieties left. A red tumbler and a silver tumbler. B...oth are gorgeous. I know I would be happy receiving either or. So the deal is simple when we ship orders out 1 in 2 will be different. It’s a random selection. We’ve done this so we don’t run out of a mix of either. Beeswax candles are one of our biggest items this year. Some people have asked why we scent them and not just have the beeswax honey scent that naturally they smell of? We looked at this time and time again. We all love a scented candle and as we are Bee company thought let’s try a few scents and see what happens. Well the response has been overwhelming. From natural wrapped wax candles to tins and glass jars to giant 650g tumblers. Seems like there’s a need and want for natural Aussie made products. So in our efforts to make Christmas a little more affordable this year, we’ve made a whole heap of Christmas scented goodies. Let’s all have a great Christmas this year. Sometimes the little things in life are the most rewarding. #beeswaxcandles #beeswax #christmasbeeswaxcandles #scentedbeeswaxcandles Visit www.bowralbeeco.com.au/shop @bowralbeeco

23.01.2022 Store bought sanitisers except for Bowral Bee Company Sanitisers are creating havoc all over the globe with peoples skin. Doctors rub the stuff all over their hands and arms during their shift. Most of us use it on our hands. Which ever method you use, the store bought sanitisers aren’t good for skin. The vast majority out there have no moisturising ingredients and not a lot of thought went into their composition. Who could blame them. We were all in a rush to make the stuff... to keep everyone safe from something we couldn’t see, touch, smell or taste. We could only hear the suffering from the effects of lack of breath and coughing. Bowral Bee Company sanitisers moisturise and sanitise. So to replenish your skin. Grab a lotion bar today and get your skin back to a state of repair. No more cracking or pealing skin. Just beautiful soft skin from head to toe. Treat yourself. If a lotion bar doesn’t suit you grab any of our creams - hand or body. They are all in tins or tubes and easy to apply. All of Bowral Bee Company products are reasonably priced. We make all our products ourselves. If you are from the Southern Highlands and can travel. Head down to Miss Olive May gift shop in Berrima who stocks most of our products. You can also shop online at Moppy & Eco. It’s an online store that sells the majority of Bowral Bee Company’s products. If you are unwell or can’t travel order from our webpage and we will deliver your order to you. 22.01.2022 Scented beeswax candles! Available soon. (In the next week) Honey beeswax candles coming soon. Also a Christmas spice beeswax candle coming soon in time for Christmas. Our Christmas collection will be available during mid October to Christmas. ... Beeswax candles are better to burn than any other variety of candle on the market. Beeswax candles burn a lot longer and brighter. They produce negative ions which help to neutralise pollutants. This helps to get rid of dust, doors and mould in the air in your home which eases allergies, asthma symptoms and the general breathing capability of people nearby. If you would like us to make a set of beeswax candles for you prior to the release message us. We will be pouring candles throughout the week so a couple extra won’t make too much of a difference. #beeswaxcandles #frangipanibeeswaxcandles #lavenderbeeswaxcandles #apple&cinnamonbeeswaxcandles #gingerbreadbeeswaxcandles #vanillabeeswaxcandles #happybees #handmadecandlemaking #handmade #ausownedausmade #buyaussienow #bowralnsw #thesouthernhighlandsnsw #smallbusiness #supporthandmade @bowralbeeco Visit: www.bowralbeeco.com.au/shop Have a wonderful week!

22.01.2022 Chocolate starts with great ingredients mainly one amazing ingredient called the Cocoa pod which inside houses a bean that changed the world over. A bean that made its way into our home and those of others the world over. We’ve taken this bean to a new level. Eating something that brings most people pleasure and putting that same product into something that parents globally wished existed years ago to help them bath their children. We made this product by accident but the res...ults from it world wide have been children of all ages who’s parents found it hard to get their children to do the simplest thing like washing their hands during our country’s lock down have used this soap and become cleaner in their daily life. Children are extremely difficult when it comes to taking a bath or shower. Making it fun and interesting for them but also beneficial is hard. Each bar smells like chocolate and leaves the water in baths light brown from the cocoa in each bar. Children love to see that every swipe of the soap makes their skin clean. On with brown and a little water later and they back to square one. Adults also find these bars useful. A little indulgence. As it is used it becomes a great exfoliator. Removes dirt and grime plus dead skin cells. Deeply moisturising our skin with every use thanks to that huge block of Shea Butter and the naturally occurring Cocoa Butter found in the Cocoa nibs. Only for a short time during Easter then later in the year around Christmas. #chocolatesoap @bowralbeeco

18.01.2022 Nisha’s story A lot of you don’t know Nisha’s story. It’s a very sad story which started at an orphanage in India over 36 years ago. Nisha was adopted by an American woman into Australia after she was left at a medical centre in Nagpur India. She only remembers being walked to the orphanage with a policeman where she spent a few years growing up with several other boys and girls just like her. Nisha has Cerebral Palsy right side hemiplegia which affects the right hand side of... her entire body. It’s suspected this has been a part of her since birth. Over the years Nisha has had several operations on many things to look and function as normal as possible. She wears a leg orthotic called an AFO to support her right leg which over the years continues to get weaker. Exercise helps Nisha with her limbs that have less functionality. About 6 years ago Nisha worked as a Childcarer in a childcare centre in Sydney. Nisha was made redundant after having two knee surgeries. We then moved from Mascot to Bowral. After about 4 years Nisha came to me and said let’s get some bees. I told her it was a great idea. Why not. So we got reading and watching several videos and seminars. We got our bees but something was missing. Nisha then said let’s start a company called Bowral Bee Company and make Beeswax wraps, Soap and Lip Balm. Since then we’ve grown to over 90 different products. When someone says you can’t achieve your goals or you can’t do something wonderful with your life, tell them Nisha did it and she’s got a disability. Nisha doesn’t get any assistance from Centrelink or the NDIS as my income is of a certain bracket. They say if you earn more than 50k too bad. They also say the system isn’t means tested that also crap. It clearly is and has been. Not to worry though. This little lady from India with a disability started her own business and made it succeed. This is Nisha’s story that we thought we’d share with you all. I also married this amazing woman just over seven years ago. We met 10 years ago and have been together ever since. #Cerebralpalsy #afo #hemiplegia #hemiplegiaawareness #startingabusiness #anybodycanstartabusiness @bowralbeeco

15.01.2022 Not one of our ladies, but a European black bee Apis Mellifera Mellifera has discovered our Lemon Myrtle that has finally started to bloom. The smell is so sweet and pungent. I can’t wait to put some of the leaves in my tea cup and to use in cooking. Can’t get enough of the Lemon Myrtle smell. As many people who have purchased our products will know Lemon Myrtle is our signature scent. Mum bought me this Lemon Myrtle for my birthday last year. I have been patiently waiting to see it blossom. Once it’s in full bloom in the next few days, we’ll see who else notices those beautiful flowers. #europeanblackbee #lemonmyrtle #australiannativeplants #australiannativeflowers #happybees #beekeeping #beekeeperswife @bowralbeeco

04.01.2022 What an interesting week it’s been. Hubby went away for a couple of days to Dubbo to work on Electricity for the Government, I spent the week going back and forth over the pending sale we are about to have with 20% off everything till the 7th April. One of the items we’ll have back in stock is our favourite product La’mour Du Chocolat Soap. Just in time for Easter.... We’ve also got some great news. There’s now a glycerine Rose Soap with rose petals and honey in it too. Tomorrow to join her will be Rosemary & lemon also with a little honey in it. These are our new glycerine soaps as we’ve started to phase out our cold process series. Some will be made by special order only but the majority will be changed over to glycerine as it’s better for your skin. I’m now deciding wether to go with goats milk or Shea butter in those recipes but can’t decide. Also to add to these two later this weekend the return of coffee soap in glycerine. At one point we vowed never to make it ever again but local demand for it has us making it. This time it’s got around 1/2 cup of beans per bar making it more pungent than previous versions. Something people love is a hot cup of coffee and smelling the gorgeous aroma. Sensitive skincare just got better. 04.01.2022 The ancient art of lighting the smoker. Takes a lot of practice but in the end beekeepers everywhere get the idea. My smoker used to have a tray at the bottom. Now I don’t use it at all. I start with a thick thatch of pine needles in the base till about a third of the way up. I light the stack blast air through it like a steam engine as you can see and hear. Little puffs. Choo Choo. Then I put another third of loosely pinned pine needles in the container and close the lid. T...his method works for me in the cold and hot days too. Nothing else’s required. Some keepers use wax of alcohol to fuel the fire before the needles. I don’t use either. The more natural the smoke the better behaved the bees will . My only tip is to make sure your pine needles are very dry. I dry mine for at least a few months and collect in winter months. A day in the life of a passionate beekeeper is what keeps this company alive. Beekeeping to me is more than a hobby. It gives me a sense of purpose and responsibility in life. I have a few things in life that I enjoy. Making stuff is one and caring for animals & insects is another. #happybeekeeping #beekeepers #lightthesmoker @bowralbeeco

03.01.2022 Earlier on in the piece, we were visited by an Umpa Lumpa which stole my heart. Had to keep this one for myself. They said the size was small however the sizes that kept coming were huge. In the end we kept this one. Never trust a suit maker. On a rare occasion Nisha joins me to collect honey and do inspections. She’s the lifeblood of this company. Without her the bees wouldn’t have anything to laugh at. When we inspect I’m pretty sure they see Nisha and burst out laughing. ...This makes the inspections stingless.
