22.01.2022 Match report for Bowral Cavaliers vs Mittagong 28 Nov 2020 Tim Barrett-Lennard Captain This was a game that many of us were looking forward to, as we know many of the opposition and Mittagong were going to be a tough challenge. We lost the toss and were sent out to bowl in very hot and windy conditions. Staying in the shade with a cold drink in hand looked far more attractive but everyone dug in to the task and Richard Anderson again lead the way with some lovely left arm in... swingers and had the batsmen looking shaky after dismissing ex Bowral first grader Alec Michie with his first ball, a peach that clipped the top of off. However, this Mittagong team had a long batting list and Alec’s son Max, who also learnt his cricket with Bowral then took us apart and ended up making 122, with some very powerful hitting. Despite that solo effort, we were gradually dismantling the batsmen at the other end and had them at 9 down at the 40 over mark. Some great leg spinners again from Brendon O’Keefe, who also made one of the great run outs of the season when the ball was smashed back at him and he managed to deflect it on to the stumps at the non strikers with the batsmen’s bat in the air. Our keeper Greg Cruger also made a couple of excellent stumpings and Andrew Macleod did a top job of getting the wickets tumbling in the later stages and took 4/33. However, we were left with a largish target of 259. After a long spell in the field, the heat had left us all struggling to raise the energy for the batting innings and I needed to experiment with the batting order a little. Unfortunately, this didn’t work out(an understatement!), in fact, it looked as if we were going to set some sort of lowest score record at one point! The bowling was very good, but better days are definitely ahead of us in the batting department. At 7/8, Jay and Amit launched a fantastic rescue mission, and some good hitting also from Richard Anderson, left us in the end all out for 76. It was a big margin today but this is a great team of blokes and we all really love playing the game of cricket together, and I think we can call this our mid-season lull, after all it is a very long season, so we are just ensuring we don’t peak to early! For the Cavs, we have plenty of good things to take out of this game despite the loss, and many aspects of our team game are improving every week, and I know that by seasons end it will be a different story to tell! 11.01.2022 On a sunny hot afternoon, Seconds went head to head with Mittagong. Seconds sporting a very young team and welcoming some juniors in for their first run in second grade. Winning the toss as always, the captain chose to bat. The top order failing to fly put pressure on our middle order. Great work by Nedavaska during the middle (28) and debutant L. Cooper (18) with Cheddar Bob saw us stabilise. Some great hitting at the end by the captain (17no) and spin king T. Smith (13no) ...saw us with a respectable 181. From here it was all Mittagong. Their opening bat going on to get 126n.o. In a display of huge hitting. Credit where credit is due, it was a fantastic innings, but not without its chances. We dropped him a few times and bowled too short. Honerable mention to Toby Smith who proves to be a wicket taking machine. Only one loose over saw his numbers blow out a little. There was some awesome bowling from young Flynn Corby who looks to have cemented himself in the side with great bowling and powerful hitting. Mention to debutant J. Mooney. His seam up bowling is something to see. A future star of the club for sure. I am big believer in that big losses teach us the most. Having young men in our side while suffering this type of loss is good for them. They can learn to loose and to do it with a sportsman-like attitude. Walk off the field knowing you did everything you could and within the spirit of cricket. See you next week. Cheers Peter
11.01.2022 Captain's report Kookaburras 3rd grade team took on Wingello Tigers at Stephen's Park and pulled of a much needed victory. After winning the toss and electing to bat on a very hot afternoon, initial and joyous shenanigans of flowing runs unfortunately turned into the clatter of wickets lost in quick time. At the first early drinks break, we found ourselves at 5/97 after 15 overs and in desperate need of a steadying partnership.... Enter the fray, Mitch Stanmore and Will Levick who had been extolled to apply themselves to batting for the next 15 overs. Not only did they pull off the mission but also added good runs, playing sensibly to their strengths and putting away the bad ball. By the second drinks break at the 30 over mark they had taken the score to 174 for no loss of wickets. Mitch batted superbly for a top score of 78 and Mr Dependable steered the team to its final total of 219 with 59 no. Both men batted the best this humble reporter has ever witnessed either of them do and the Kookas were inspired by their performances to enter the field with something substantial to bowl at. Wingello started their innings with guns blazing but unable to maintain any kind of power in the face of a good opening bowling stand with special mention to Sam Mackay who intimidated all batsmen with good speed and accuracy. Taking the first 2 wickets of the innings to start the rot, Sam finished with 2/29. Vettoretto conspired with co-captain Levick to bring on his very favourite first change bowler of all time and it wasn't long before a performance of the ages began. Scott Osborne proceeded to deliver a spell of bowling that was masterful and clever to the tune of 4/10, including a failed attempt at a hat trick (God's attempt at delivering humility). In short, the cat had been artfully placed among the pidgeons. In what was seemingly a parade of inspirational bowling, Andrew Barnes joined in the proceedings after earlier constructing an end of innings batting partnership with Levick that defined this man's massive under rating as a lower order batsman. He then proceeded to bowl tantalising and deceptive artistry that left him with 2/26. Harry Mooney contributed extremely accomplished leg spin without the accolades of wickets, only to have to witness his show pony older brother come on from the other end and take a wicket with his very first ball bowled in grade. Tom finished with 2/8 to clean up the tail and unveiled yet another magical Mooney. Wingello left the field 100 runs short of victory and the prospect of lbw nightmares awaiting them in bed. All in all, a very good team performance with a great deal of fun and banter. When this team plays to its potential, anything can happen. Everyone contributing to a very satisfying win.

06.01.2022 RIP Dean Jones The Australian cricketing great has passed away in India at the age of 59.
05.01.2022 #tbt This is Captain Phillip Sherley of the Third Grade Cavaliers. Phil prefers the term "Elite Squad" but this sometimes comes under question when players get named without going through the rigorous fitness test that Phil has in place. This picture is moments before a massive "6 and out" slog off a 6 foot 6 inch west Indian fast bowler threw down a 100 mile an hour bouncer. Phil is a much loved, respected and passionate member of our club.
