25.01.2022 Monday price update: DOWN - *Packham pears down to just over $2/Kg *Continental Eggplant should be no more than $4.76/kg... *The warmer weather is improving the supply of Lebanese cucumber: today’s price has dropped to around $6/Kg, but we expect the downward trend to continue for some time. UP - No major price increases! When the asparagus boxes were checked for weight, they were a little lighter than expected, so the 'handful' will be around 200g.

25.01.2022 Charlie Vella, grower in Freemans Reach, will be picking... *Cauliflowers at $2.55 each *Iceberg lettuce just $1.25 a head *Medium-sized Wombok for $1.87 probably the last week before he’s taking a break: the new patch won’t be ready until October... *Both silverbeet and green kale will be $1.47 a bunch *Charlie and his grand-daughter Charlie still have more zucchini flowers than they know what to sensibly do with. Feedback from some members who have bought them a few times suggests that they don’t travel well once they’re out of the tray. So, to alleviate this issue, Charlie will be packing them 6-to-a-punnet. Whilst that means more plastic, it also means less food waste as the zucchini flowers will last much longer. He really wants you to try them out and is offering them at $3.40 a punnet. See more

24.01.2022 Fruity news - *They keep bringing out more Afourer mandarins, in such volume that prices have dropped below $2/Kg. *All citrus is going strong still, with lemons dropping back under $3/Kg *Kensington Pride mangoes are now starting to show up in good numbers and prices have dropped below $3/ea. We expect them to be $2.50 by the end of next week.... *Apple prices have eased back a bit, especially Pink Lady. *Berries just keep going: strawberries (from WA this week) will be around $2 punnet, and blueberries around $3. Also raspberries, just $4.76 a punnet. *Watermelons are back! They’re small well, around 3-4kg each so they’ll fit in your fridge once you halve them, and they’re just $1.65/Kg See more

21.01.2022 Hope you've all enjoyed the weekend! Here's our splits update - Avocados - 2nd box started... Bananas - 23 more Blueberries - 2nd box started Lots more splits started, have a look to see what you can add to your order! Orders close 9pm tomorrow, Monday.

21.01.2022 Fruity features - We are still waiting for the price of mangoes and cherries to come down, and blueberries have temporarily tightened up. * But in the meantime, you could try some blackberries :) * Meanwhile, our regular strawberry grower near Monbulk in Vic is taking a break in between patches which gives us a chance to try out some of the more premium berries. They’re extra large, super-sweet and should be around $3.40 per punnet. Depending on the feedback, we may co...ntinue with this more premium fruit even after the regular berries have returned. Let us know what you think * And what about some lychees?! They’re only just starting, but they pack a punch. Still $23/Kg, but they will drop in the lead-up to Christmas. See more

20.01.2022 Steve and Sam Grima, growers in Horsley Park, will be picking... *fennel-with-frond. They have a medium-sized bulb, and the long frond can be used for garnish or for pesto (the flavour is similar to dill). *They’ll also have celeriac adds flavour to your potato mash. Use a 50/50 mix of potato and celeriac.

20.01.2022 Orders close 9pm tonight! With our great teamwork and group buying power, let's see what else we can add to our order Here's what splits are close (and please check my previous post with today's market update)...... Pink Lady apples - 33 more (we have 4 varieties of apples in splits, Pink Ladies are the closest to getting through. If you've joined a split on another variety, you could consider swapping over) Asparagus- 7 more Bananas - 14 more (these are also in our start order) Beans - 4 more to fill 2nd box Basil - 3 more Mandarins - 18 more Red onions - just 1 more! Blood oranges - 15 more Butternut pumpkin - 3 more Rockmelons - 2 more Strawberries - 7 more to fill 2nd box (also in our start order) Bakery and Harkola pantry are through, so you can continue to order whatever you like. (Harkola - order and pay this week, receive next week)

20.01.2022 Thursday tips still work on Fridays

19.01.2022 Isn't nature amazing!

18.01.2022 Sunday evening means splits update time! Orders close 9pm tomorrow, Monday. We are just $1.50 short of Belicious minimum hub order amount (order and pay this week, receive next week)... Fuji apples - 30 more Asparagus - 7 more Broccoli - 6 more Fennel - 5 more Coriander - 2 more Kale - 2 more Zucchini - 13 more Plenty more splits available too!

18.01.2022 A quiet day on the market first day of the school holidays with only a few changes: UP Packham pears are approaching the end of the season: supply is tightening up and prices are on the rise. Expect to pay around $2.85/Kg... DOWN *Hass avocadoes: this may be short-lived, but we’ll take what we can get. They’ve come down to around $1.75 each *Imported garlic: supply from Spain and Mexico is starting to normalise, and so are prices just over $12/Kg. *Corn is scarce, and although they are good eating, this week’s supply will have some grub at the top so here's a heads-up: cut off the top

18.01.2022 Now that's a good looking fridge!

18.01.2022 Orders close 9pm tonight! Belicious is available again this order as Bel is offering a sample pack - 4 random products for $12.50. Last time it sold out in one week! (Min hub order of $30 still applies. Order/pay this week, receive next week)... Here are the splits that need a little more of a nudge... Parsley - 2 more HV eggs - 2 more to fill 2nd box JB eggs - 3 more to fill 2nd box Parsnip - 5 more Snowpeas - 4 more to fill 3rd bag Cherry tomatoes - 4 more

17.01.2022 Another weekend almost done...but there's still time to check/join our splits! Orders close 9pm tomorrow, Monday. Harkola pantry items reached the minimum hub order amount early, but bakery still needs a few more takers. ... Here's what produce is close: Apples - we have splits started for 4 different varieties. Might need to concentrate our efforts on one kind to get through. Baby spinach - 2 more Bananas - 21 more (also in start order) Red capsicum - 16 more Basil - 3 more HV eggs - 1 more to fill 2nd box Baby cos lettuce - 3 more Mandarins - 28 more Rockmelons - 3 more Cherry tomatoes - 2 more

17.01.2022 Another generous #CommunityBox this week Thanks to Dominique for delivering it to the school this morning x

17.01.2022 This week's healthy box of goodness donated to a local family, from our hub Thank you to Carmel for dropping it to the school this morning! #boxdivvy #northturramurra #wahroonga #stives #turramurra #communitybox #eatfresh #eathealthy #local

17.01.2022 We love price drops! There are some dramatic price falls for some produce lines this week: corn and beans fell by 60%-70% (and corn is now about 85-90c a cob), whilst there were smaller falls for truss tomatoes, rainbow carrots, passionfruit, cauliflowers and others. Many of these are now looking very cheap

17.01.2022 Vegie news - *Except for avocadoes, capsicums and zucchini, most vegetables are great value! *Victorian asparagus are down to $1.45 a bunch, and crisp as chips. But healthier. *Beans, snow peas and sugarsnap pea prices continue... to be near the season’s low *The Grimas in Horsley Park will be bringing in loads of Dutch carrots decent bunches for just $2 *Broccoli shoots - find under Broccoli regular. They are popping out all over the place so Gerard Saad in Wilberforce will be cutting these this week for $2.50/kg. *Also, he will have green cabbages at half the price of supermarkets at $1.81 each. See more

16.01.2022 Fruity features - * Valencia oranges are generally thought of as juicing oranges, because their juice keeps a bit better than Navels. But that doesn't mean they are no good as eating oranges! They are the only citrus that grows over summer, and have their own natural sun protection system. When they get a lot of sun, their skin develops a green hue that makes them appear unripe but in fact, the greener they are, the more sun they’ve had and the sweeter they’ll be. And they...'ve just come down to $1.53/kg. Sweet! * Mangoes will still be around $2.40 each next week. The Mango Growers Association of Australia expect there to be a bumper crop due just before Christmas, so we won't see them drop to under $2 until well into December. * Recent bad weather in Queensland smashed up the peaches, and other growing regions like Maroota, Canoelands and southern NSW won’t start in earnest for another few weeks so we'll make do with nectarines at under $4/Kg. Life's tough lol * Or we might try new season plums, aptly named Earliqueens. They’re early indeed, and whilst as a rule we don’t touch plums until close to Christmas, we do make exceptions from time to time let's see how they go. * Menindee large white seedless grapes used to be grown mainly in Menindee, but lack of water security means that they’ve been diversified into other regions, especially Emerald and St George in North Queensland. They are still a little pricey around $12-$13 per kg but give it a few weeks and they’ll be below $10. * See more

14.01.2022 Pork ribs with Belicious Foods Smokey Harissa, served with sweet potato mash and broccoli. I understand the harissa on the pork was very good! #boxdivvy #northturramurra #turramurra #stives #wahroonga #smokeyharissa #eatfresh #eathealthy #tasty #yum #beliciousfoods

14.01.2022 Fruity news - *The apple season is starting to run out of steam and it’s at this tail-end of the season that last year’s drought and bushfires will be felt most acutely. Most growers have nothing left to pick, so the reduced supply will see prices going up. Expect to pay between $4/kg and $5/kg. We did manage to find some good value Granny Smiths :) *In contrast with apples, the pear season is showing no sign of slowing down both Packhams and Nashi pears remain great val...ue. *Bananas and large pineapples are still cheap, but mangoes refuse to come down in price as quickly as we were hoping. Still, the real peak in supply is not until late October, so we’ll just wait in patience *Blueberries have tightened a little, but strawberries should still be plentiful an unusually long season. And with next week looking cooler, hopefully the strawberries will last a bit longer. *Stone fruit: reports from several growers both north of Sydney and in southern NSW suggest this is going to be a strong season in terms of picking volumes. On top of that, exports are expected to decline because of Covid-19 and high airfreight cost, so the domestic supply should be ample. This is not good news for growers who are trying to recover from last year’s bad season, but you can do your bit by buying A LOT of peaches and nectarines once the season gets on its way. The first nectarines and peaches are expected by late October. See more

12.01.2022 It's been a while since I posted pet photos! Here's Louie getting excited about carrots!

12.01.2022 Vegie news - *Charlie Vella in Freemans Reach still has plenty of large cauliflowers ($2.72), celery ($2.49), iceberg lettuce ($1.42), kale, Wombok and silverbeet *The Wombok is particularly good, with a solid core and medium in size and still only $1.87 each *Steve and Sam Grima in Horsley Park will be picking loads of celeriac this week. This is one of the slowest-growing vegetables around, taking about 5 months to reach maturity.... For the next few weeks, they’re the cheapest you’ll see them this season. Celeriac has the characteristic celery flavour, but in a creamy format. Mash it with potato. *Red capsicums are expected to spike a little for the next few weeks: work on $4.50/kg *Most other vegetables from snowpeas and corn to zucchini and even Lebanese cucumber will be good to excellent value. *Bye-bye to: Brussels Sprouts, parsnip, and rainbow carrots See more

11.01.2022 Vegie news - *Asparagus will be around $1.80 a bunch *Green beans should be no more than $2.70/Kg *JAP pumpkins at less than $1/Kg... *Kim Ung from Golden Fields, Wallacia, tells us he’ll have a lot of sugarsnap peas coming up this week, so he’s reduced the price to $10/Kg. See more

10.01.2022 More market news! * As well as Menindee grapes, we will also have Red Crimson grapes available! Menindees $11.33/kg, Red Crimsons $9.07/kg * KP mangoes will be more expensive than expected, nearly $3 each. But we've sourced some R2E2 mangoes as well, and they'll be around $2.25 each. R2E2 mangoes need to be fully ripe before eating. Colour is not always a good guide (they often have a slight green tinge), touch is better: they must have some ‘give’ before eating. If they’re s...till firm, leave them in a warm spot for a few days. * As supply of local garlic picks up, prices are dropping. We’re expecting white garlic from Tooleybuc in the Murray region next week. It is expected to sell for around $19/Kg. * Simon Chong in Leppington managed to clean up after the recent hailstorm and salvaged several paddocks of baby buk choi. Great weather since the storm has meant they've matured well, and are ready for picking! They will be around $1.16/bunch * The Ung family in Wallacia will have heirloom tomato mix, at $8.46/kg. There are Green Zebra, Red and Pink Oxheart, Golden Jubilee, and Black Russians * Corn and green beans are back - but not that cheap at the moment. See more

09.01.2022 Vegie views - Something new! Baby roma truss tomatoes! Grown in Clybucca, north of Port Macquarie, we hear they are even sweeter than regular truss tomatoes! But any tomato is good value at the moment...

09.01.2022 Monday market update - Lots coming down in price! * Passionfruit is arriving in big numbers don’t pay more than 50c each... * Cherries are getting better and cheaper each day: down to $13.60/Kg, and the quality is excellent * Cauliflowers are down to $2.18 each * Corn is starting to come back to earth: $1.46 a cob * Ditto for green beans: $6.80/Kg * Eggplant is loving the warmer weather: expect to pay around $3.90/Kg * Last but not least, zucchini is now at glut levels, and farmers are begging us to take them. So let's go big on zucs at just $1.72/Kg. The quality is great, and here are some ideas to use them up: https://damndelicious.net/2014//21/baked-parmesan-zucchini/ https://www.goodhousekeeping.com/food-r//zucchini-recipes/ https://www.loveandlemons.com/zucchini-recipes/ See more

06.01.2022 Fruity news - *Steady spring weather across most of the Eastern seaboard is producing good growing conditions and a steady market. *This is certainly true of Queensland berries, which are continuing their run for a little longer than usual. Expect to pay under $2 a punnet for strawberries and under $3 for blueberries *Rockmelons are back: they eat well and will be around $2.50 each for small to medium-sized fruit... *Best value fruit this week - Pink Lady apples, berries and any citrus, especially blood oranges See more

06.01.2022 Similar here. Very little goes into landfill! Thanks for the post, BD Lalor Park :)

06.01.2022 Hope everyone has weathered this (apparently) stormy weekend safely. We mostly missed it, being away on the beautiful mid north coast! Time for our splits update, orders close 9pm tomorrow, Monday.... Belicious is through, so you can continue to add any Belicious products you like. Remember order and pay this week, receive next week. We are $9.40 short of Shepherd's bakery minimum order amount. Asparagus- 5 more Avos - 7 more Blueberries - 2 more Buk choi- 3 more Dutch carrots - 3 more Basil - 1 more Coriander- 3 more Mangoes - 2 more Plums - 12 more Heirloom tomatoes - 2 more

05.01.2022 Monday market update - UP *Blueberries are up to $3.40 a punnet *Zucchini prices are now around $3.70/Kg... *Ginger supply continues to be impacted by the effects from last season’s drought, with new season supply not coming through until February next year. Expect to pay around $33/Kg (or $45 in the supermarket) DOWN *Lemons are still cheap, and even cheaper this week down to under $2.40/kg. The season won’t have long to run before they’ll double in price, usually around November so get some whilst the going is good *Navel oranges are down to $1.36/kg. Like lemons, they’ll finish soon-ish with Valencias taking over *Just as you thought that green beans could not get any cheaper, they just have: $2.37/kg Interestingly, in two cases price rises have been attributed to a shortage of packers in Qld. Farmers have long warned that they were struggling to find enough backpackers to pick their produce, especially with the NSW-Qld border still closed

05.01.2022 Orders close 9pm tonight! *Please check previous post with today's market update* Coffee is through. If anyone else would like to order, you can add whatever coffee choice you like. 05.01.2022 Fruity news - *Rockmelons for under $2 each *Ruby grapefruit this incredible source of vitamin C for around 70c each, or under $2/kg *Packham pears for just over $2/kg... *Berries galore, with strawberries enjoying one of the longest Qld seasons on record because of the continued mild weather in Caboolture and Bundaberg *Strawberries are expected to stay under $2 a punnet, and blueberries under $3 a punnet *Passionfruit will continue a little longer, but will remain pricey... *...as are mangoes for the next 2 weeks. The forecast supply should still see mangoes selling between $1.50 and $2 each by the end of this month See more

05.01.2022 Vegie views - * Charlie Vella in Freemans Reach is picking cabbages. Great for coleslaw in this hot weather! And they’re full of antioxidants, help prevent cancer, reduce blood pressure, control blood sugar, lower cholesterol, and can help with weight loss because of its high fibre content. Add some carrots, shallots, and parsley, make a simple coleslaw dressing, and you've got a bowl full of goodness! * Antioxidants are also found in broccoli and cauliflower. How healthy ca...n we be?! Broccoli now $2.90/kg, and caulis $2.58 each. Broccoli is $5.69/kg in Harris Farm, or $3/kg on special at Coles. * Kim and Laks Ung, from Golden Fields in Wallacia, can't stop growing Lebanese cucumbers! Well, the weather might have something to do with it...lol. Box Divvy has reduced the price to $1.86/kg to encourage us to eat even more! There's a great range of ideas here https://www.taste.com.au/search-recipes/?q=cucumber. The cucumber, lime and basil spritz sounds very refreshing, and good for the kids. Cucumber and gin fizz best left for the adults! See more

03.01.2022 Monday price update: UP *We’ve had an incredible run with Panama passionfruit over the past few months, but this is coming to an end: prices have risen by close to 50% to around $1.25 each.... *Continental eggplant also had a dramatic rise, after easing back for most of last week: it’s back up to $6.80/Kg. Still, it’s $9-10/kg in the supermarket. *Hass avocado prices have been predicted to rise for a little while, and they’re starting to take off. Nothing dramatic yet ($1.36 each), but there are signs that local growers from Stuart Point to Comboyne are picking less than they were a month ago, so we’re anticipating further increases over the coming weeks. DOWN *Afourer mandarins have come down a little to $2.12/Kg. There’s still plenty of supply left this season *Kiwi fruit has eased back for now to just over $5/Kg, but the season hasn’t much left to run *Garlic’s yo-yo prices are continuing down today to $13.60/Kg

03.01.2022 Thank you for dropping off your bags and produce bags/containers for me to pack into :) As the weather starts to warm up, you may also like to leave some ice packs to help keep your produce cool. **Please make sure everything is clearly named**

03.01.2022 Vegie news - *Beans and peas continue to be super-cheap, with snowpeas dropping to $6.80/kg locally supplied by Kim and Laks Ung at Golden Fields in Wallacia. *Golden Fields is also supplying us with Lebanese cucumber: expect to pay $2.60/kg. Only a month ago, you would have paid triple... *Simon Chong, grower in Leppington, reports the lowest prices this season on:... ^Coriander: 91c a bunch. ^Baby buk choi: $1.13 a bunch. ^English spinach: $1.36 a bunch. *Both Field and Roma tomato supply has finally picked up, with prices dropping to just over $3/kg *Charlie Vella in Freemans Reach has good rhubarb numbers: expect around $3.40 a bunch. He’s also picking kale, silverbeet, zucchini flowers and hopefully soon: zucchini. Until then, zucchini will stay elevated at $5.75/kg *Steve and Sam Grima continue picking Dutch carrots ($2 a bunch), fennel-with-frond ($1.25 each) and red radish ($1.59), great for a Spring salad! *What's cheap $ - Any lettuce is cheap. Pumpkins are cheap. Asparagus are cheap. Potatoes and onions are cheap, but this time of year, they will be showing some sprouting activity. *What's expensive $$$ - The only expensive vegetables now are cherry and grape tomatoes, baby truss, leek, corn (somewhat) and zucchini (not for long).

01.01.2022 Thought I'd try this recipe for Christmas - a camlamken instead of turducken. But I am not sure where to find a camel. Can anyone help?

01.01.2022 Another beautiful weekend! Happy Fathers Day :) Orders close off 9pm tomorrow, so let's have a look at what splits need a bit of help...... We are $11 short of Black Market Roasters coffee minimum hub order amount. Remember - order and pay this week, receive next week. Pink Lady apples - 10 more (and they're in our Start Order too!) Asparagus - 5 more Avocados - 8 more Bananas - 31 more to fill 2nd box Beans - 5 more Blueberries - 6 more to fill 2nd box Broccoli - 9 more Broccolini - 5 more Celery - 1 more Delucas eggs - 1 more HV eggs - 1 more Ginger - 4 more Basil - 2 more Parsley - 2 more Rockmelons - 2 more Field tomatoes - 16 more
