25.01.2022 Forecast: mangoes looking cheap forDecember Really? Can we wait this long? The Mango Growers Association of Australia is now predicting a bumper crop just before Christmas. So if the forecast is correct, mangoes we expect them to be around $2.40 next week won’t fall below the $2 mark until well into December Ah well, just as well there’s loads of other fruit!

25.01.2022 Good to have your own tubs!

24.01.2022 Trying to make this vegetable stock paste, all the ingredients can get from boxdivvy! #boxdivvy #thermomix #vegetablestock

24.01.2022 Don’t forget to submit your WISHLIST by 9pm tonight! It’s how we know what you’d like to see in the Starting Order this week. Also, 9pm tonight is the cutoff to suspend your weeks order or change household size.

24.01.2022 It is true, tastes much better than I bought from supermarkets.

23.01.2022 Local heirloom tomatoes

20.01.2022 We’re leaving no STONE unturned OK, peaches got smashed alright up in Queensland, and other growing regions like Maroota, Canoelands and southern NSW won’t start in earnest for another few weeks so gorge yourself on nectarines at under $4/Kg. Or new season plums, aptly named Earliqueens. They’re early indeed, and whilst as a rule we don’t touch plums until close to Christmas, we do make exceptions from time to time and this Earliqueen is worth it.

18.01.2022 This is my first time to see rosemary flowers, I am going to put it in a vase

18.01.2022 Strongly recommend this grey zucchini! More creamy and sweeter than the green ones, must try!

17.01.2022 One of our aims this year is to start neighbours growing and selling into their local Box Divvy Food Hub. Julie-ann in Farmborough Heights is one of our first home grower who will sell her wonderful limes, red chard, bay leaves and red chilli. (You may recall that from time to time, weve sourced parsley and mint from Said Bayeh in Ermington he started it all!) We hope that backyard growers will eventually contribute 10-20% of our food supply, which will bolster food secur...ity at a time of rapid climate change and possible future pandemics. The way to change things is to let communities run it. Backyard growers can apply to supply their produce to one or more hubs in a region by emailing us. Part of the requirements is to have their soil tested for the presence of heavy metals by the VegeSafe program. This began in September of 2013 at Macquarie Universitys Open Day event, where free soil testing for was offered to attendees. Since then, they have analysed over 15,000 soil samples from 3,200 Australian homes. In order to keep the program running and accessible to all, the VegeSafe program, a not-for-profit, needs your support. We ask that you pay $40 to cover the costs of the soil analysis, time involved, data privacy security and laboratory consumables. Once you receive the certificate, we will refund you $20. You can email receipt along with a soil health report. To get your soil tested, please visit https://research.science.mq.edu.au/vege/how-to-participate/

15.01.2022 Sweet potatoes, bought three weeks ago. Airfryer 30m, much sweeter than the time we got them. The best way to store sweet potatoes is to select an area that is dry and cool. Those areas that come to mind for storing sweet potatoes in the home include a garage, basement or cellar. If you store your sweet potatoes correctly, they can last for up to 6 months.

15.01.2022 Wow, this long white radish reminds me my grandma who used to plant this radish. Very simple to make this Asian style radish salad. Cut into shreds... Put some salt to make it sweating Take out the extra water Add sugar, vinegar, sesame seed oil, chili powder, then Mix! #boxdivvy #longwhiteradish #asiansalad

14.01.2022 New season delights Whilst Blueberries have temporarily tightened up, try some delicious Blackberries instead. Surprisingly sweet! Meanwhile our regular strawberry grower near Monbulk in Vic is taking a break in between patches which gives us a chance to try out some of the more premium berries. They’re extra large, super-sweet and should be around $3.40 per punnet. Depending on the feedback, we may continue with this more premium fruit even after the regular berries ...have returned. Let us know what you think Can you get a bigger Flavour Bomb than lychees?? They’re only just starting, but they pack a punch. Still $23/Kg, but they will drop in the lead-up to Christmas.

14.01.2022 If youve people you know growing without chemicals let them know please. This is so important with climate changing and also with the impending change to the economy.

13.01.2022 Gotta LOVE your Valencias Valencia oranges were created in (get this) California, US back in the 1800’s. OK, so not really in Valencia. The original grower called them Valencias in honour of the fact that Spain at the time was the centre of the citrus world. Nowadays most Valencias are grown in Florida and Australia! Most citrus matures over autumn and winter, but Valencias are the only citrus variety grown over summer. When they get a lot of sun, their skin develops a gree...n hue by way of sunscreen protection that makes them appear unripe but in fact, the greener they are, the more sun they’ve had and the sweeter they’ll be. Valencias have an unfair reputation as ‘juicing oranges’. The reason is that their juice keeps better than Navel juice which gets a little bitter over time. But the fact they produce better orange juice doesn’t mean they’re not great to eat as a hand orange! And to give you one more reason: they’ve just come down to $1.53/Kg. At that price, you can juice them and have ‘m too!

07.01.2022 Ever tried fresh green peas?? Fresh peas: they come inside their pods just shuck to release them, and cook them briefly in some butter or virgin olive oil, with a little garlic and chopped mint ahh heaven. Serve with mash and a chop or sausage. Or add to your pasta boscaiola (and replace the frozen peas with fresh ones). Careful though: you may never want to go back to frozen or canned peas

05.01.2022 Store-it Sunday. Each week we will look at ways of storing various Box Divvy produce to keep it fresh for longer. This week we are featuring: ... Potatoes Potatoes last longer on the kitchen counter than most fruits and vegetables, but eventually, they start to sprout green shoots and lose some of their freshness and flavor. If you know how to store them properly, theyll stay fresh weeks, or possibly even months, longer. All you need to store them so theyll stay fresh longer is a cardboard box, a paper or mesh bag, or a basket. Your potatoes will last four to six months when properly stored. How to Store Your Potatoes This is an easy process, but it should be followed precisely for the best results. - Inspect all the potatoes for soft spots, sprouts, mold, shovel damage, and pest damage. - Place the potatoes in a cardboard box, paper bag, mesh bag, or basket to ensure good ventilation. Plastic bags wont allow them to breathe and will shorten their shelf life considerably. - Store your potatoes in a cool, humid, and dark place. Never store potatoes in the fridge, the too-cold temperature turns the potato starch into sugar. - Check on your potatoes regularly and remove any that are soft, shriveled, or sprouted so they dont cause more potatoes to go bad (Even if your potatoes have sprouted they are still safe to eat as long as they are firm to the touch and are not shriveled). Additional Storage Tips Theres lots more to know about storing potatoes. Keep all these tips in mind: - Dont wash potatoes until you are ready to use them. - Keep your potatoes away from other produce to prevent flavor transfer and premature ripening. Its especially important to keep your potatoes away from onions. They both release gases that ripen the other one. This makes that combined potato and onion storage box is an all-around bad idea.

05.01.2022 The watermelons are back on the list. They have travelled a bit from the Northern Territories and theyre not as plentiful as normal because of the lack of bees. This may be a story well hear more and more: bee numbers in the Territory are down 20% because of drought, and this means fewer plants will be pollinated. Still, the quality is excellent and at around $1.65/Kg, theyre good value. They easily weigh 5kg each, so make some room in your fridge!

05.01.2022 Looks very healthy and I would love to try too!
