25.01.2022 If you got one of our new recycled & reusable produce bags today then please pop them in the wash and return them next week. If you have any spare and unused pillow cases I would love them so they can be made into more bags for our hub We need about 50 material bags in circulation to avoid using the paper bags.

23.01.2022 Last call for any Pantry items- nuts, pulses, beans, dried fruit, pasta and rice. We aren’t over the minimum order amount. Pantry splits won’t be open next week.

23.01.2022 The Swap and Spares Box... What is it? Every week when the boxes of fruit and vege’s come there are extras and there are some that just don’t make the cut quality wise. The extras... I add a few to each box if you have ordered that item, but try not to overwhelm you. Any extras on top of this go into the Spare’s Box.... If they aren’t up to Box Divvy standards, but I would feed them to my family I will add them to the Spares Box straight off. They may be slightly squished or have a small bruise or the skin is mottled. If you are happy to chop a bit off then help yourself! If there is something you don’t fancy in your box feel free to swap it for any of the extras This week there are extra onions, oranges and apples which have discoloured skin. Also some extra bags of lettuce. You will find them in the Spares and Swap Box!

19.01.2022 Pantry items close tonight. Rice, pasta, seeds, nuts, pulses and beans

19.01.2022 In our box this week: Baby Leeks- Usually it takes 6-8 months to grow leek but these tender leeks have been in the ground for way shorter time. To store leeks: Don't wash. Refrigerate leeks up to one week, loosely wrap in cloth or paper towel then in a plastic bag as they like high humidity and the cold part of the fridge - the cripser. Wait to trim the tops and roots until just before using.... Blood oranges- are wonderfully sweet and slightly spicy, with hints of Cassis and berries. Imagine an orange that tastes of raspberry. They've had plenty of frost so they taste fantastic. It’s still early in the season, so they’re not yet fully red but have plenty of flavour. Blood oranges are the best winter antidote with vitamin C and a powerful antioxidant.

18.01.2022 G-R-A-I-N-S Our Quinoa & Soyabean Sourdough is bursting with healthy grains and probiotics. Do your gut a favour and stay away from white, processed bread,... which is high GI and has next to no health benefits. Instead aim for a wholemeal, spelt or grain-filled sourdough which has been cold-fermented for over 24 hours, like these big guys! Pick a loaf up at our stores, online or at our Farmers Markets, which are gradually all returning. . . . #sourdough #quinoa #lowgi #healthybread #probiotic #guthealth #grains #farmersmarket See more

18.01.2022 Spinach and cheese parcels but it's not spinach! All the leaves from my target beetroot and golden beetroot from the previous delivery were cooked and put into puff pastry with ricotta, feta and eggs. #boxdivvywestrydedickson #nowaste #eatthewholevegetable #beetrootandleaves

18.01.2022 News from one of our local growers, Raymond Camilleri...... Every year, he grows seriously BIG broccoli on his Freemans Reach farm. They’re available for the ne...xt 2 weeks or until he runs out. Sold by the dozen, they weigh about 750g-1Kg each. Raymond cuts them with leaf and stem, which is where most of the nutrition is - so we need to eat the whole thing! He says that he’ll have a few thousand, so he should have enough for the fortnight but if he does run out, we’ll give you Gerard Saad’s boxed broccoli instead. However, if you prefer rosettes, best stick with Gerard Saad’s smaller heads and shoots. Giant broccoli for our next order - what fun!! #broccoli #weloveveggies #boxdivvy

14.01.2022 EGGciting News... Box Divvy have decided that they cannot afford to be reliant on a single supplier- eggs were super hard to get your hands on during lockdown... so... After a long search for genuine free-range egg supplier, we’ve ended up at the Jones Brothers Family Farm near Forbes, about an hour west of Orange. They run their farm with fewer than 1500 hens per HA about 6 times more spacious than the ‘standard’ free-range farm (the major brands as well as supermarket ow...n brands run at 10,000 hens/HA: that’s about 1sqm per hen!). The Hunter Valley brand runs at 950 hens/HA even more spacious We’ll continue to get supply of 600g packs from Hunter Valley brand and they’ve agreed to drop the price a little to pre-Covid levels. So the new range is: Hunter Valley 600g : $4.98 per doz Jones Bros 700g : $5.62 per doz Delucas Organic 600g : $8.67

13.01.2022 How cute are the grape tomatoes this week? I’ve seen bigger grapes Super sweet taste wise

12.01.2022 What’s in your box? This is this weeks 2 person box. No extras. It cost $23.03. 12.01.2022 Just in case you were wondering... yes there was zucchini in our box this week, but there was a price increase to over $7/kg, so I removed them until the price falls- hopefully within the next few weeksJust in case you were wondering... yes there was zucchini in our box this week, but there was a price increase to over $7/kg, so I removed them until the price falls- hopefully within the next few weeks

07.01.2022 -Packham pears are flooding the market, and we’re buying up big. Expect to pay no more than $1.85/Kg. More importantly, they’re simply delicious! -Gerard Saad is picking tonnes of broccoli shoots: they are the side shoots that come up some 4-6 weeks after the main head is chopped off. They’re tender and sweet and usually reserved for upmarket restaurants. They are less dense than regular broccoli and even a full box of shoots would weigh no more than 7Kg. But still only $3.50/Kg.

04.01.2022 I’m going to be opening our starting order late on Thursday nights from now on as I’m not managing to get it done early enough on a Friday. Evenings are my thinking time when the kids are in bed, how about you? Snowpeas are a great price this week, I’ve popped them into the splits

03.01.2022 Queensland berries are continuing their great value run for much longer than usual: by September, Caboolture and Bundaberg can get too hot for strawberries, but daytime temperatures in the mid-20’s forecast for at least the next week - are perfect for producing sweet strawberries with a good shelf-life. Expect to pay under $2 a punnet for strawberries and under $3 for blueberries this week

03.01.2022 What did you do with your parsnips in last weeks box? I felt uncreative and cold so made 4 litres of soup! It is actually the yummiest soup I have made yet this winter. I’m not one for following recipes so it went a bit like this; However many parsnips you have left... 3 carrots 3 onions 8 garlic cloves (we love garlic in this house!) 4 stalks of celery 2 potato Red split lentils, about 2 cups 1 stock cube A big chunk of butter Water, salt and pepper Cook for about half an hour, blitz until creamy.

02.01.2022 Thanks Naraweena for this fab video https://youtu.be/sa6tyfdIIfI

01.01.2022 Here’s a secret to keeping lemons fresh for months! Normally, lemons only keep for a week at most. After a week of being left in room temperature, lemons lose ...their moisture and start to deteriorate. The pores in the lemon rinds allow moisture to escape the fruit, causing it to dry out and go bad. To keep the lemons fresh longer, all you need to do is put your lemons in a bowl of water and pop it in the fridge. Alternatively, you can put lemons in an air-tight plastic bag in the fridge. The water in the bowl serves to replenish the lost moisture to the lemons, and the plastic bag serves the same purpose of maintaining that moisture within the fruit.
