24.01.2022 WE NEED YOUR HELP! The Reporter was the first and for many years the only local newspaper in Box Hill. The years from 1889 to 1918 have been digitized and are available for viewing on the National Library’s website Trove. The historical society’s original copies from 1919 to 1930 have developed mould and, for occupational health and safety reasons, cannot be used any more. The cost to digitize the papers for this period, using microfilms held by the State Library, is nearly... $8,000 and while the Whitehorse Council has provided funding for half the amount, and the Society has conducted a number of fundraising activities, we still need to raise nearly $1000 to cover the balance. We welcome donations to help reduce the gap balance and this can be done via this link: https://www.trybooking.com/au/donate/boxhillreporter See more

06.01.2022 Box Hill Historical Society will be open for research on Saturday 27th July from 10am to 3pm, and will have a small photographic display of around 100 houses from the Box Hill/Surrey Hills/Burwood area. Digital copies of the photos will be available at a cost of $15 per image, either sent electronically, or on a provided USB. Included in the display are some from a collection of Polaroid photos, taken by a Box Hill Council officer in the 1970s, of houses that were to be demolished after planning applications had been approved. The photos on display are by no means all the house photos we hold, just an interesting sample. Others are recorded in our catalogue. On Sunday 28th July, we have a BOOK SALE from 11am - 2pm.
