25.01.2022 **Attention all Qld clubs and Boxers, Boxing Qld are holding another NQ v SQ event at the end of November in Townsville and would like to open it up to all boxers and clubs in Qld, for insurance purposes everyone will need to be appropriately registered with Boxing Qld but all fees will be waived for this tournament. As per the basic requirements, coaches must have a current blue card and boxers 15yrs + must have a current serology.... Registering your club is easy through our web page, once that is completed your boxers can then register with BQ through your club and then nominate for the tournament when it is open. (fees will be waived for this event) This will be the last tournament of the year for BQ and a great opportunity to bring everyone together. If you have any questions or would like further info please dont hesitate to contact [email protected] ____________________________________________ >>If you have already nominated for the tournament on the 10th Oct you will need to re nominate when the event re opens as weve had to change some details<< ____________________________________________ ** We have had a few glitchs with the information during the nomination process of late which we apologise for however we are attempting to make the process as seamless as possible for all involved, to register for a BQ event you need to be registered & financial (club and boxer). When you register online you will receive an email confirming your registration which will have your BQ log in details in it. To nominate for a BQ event you will need these registration details to complete your nomination. Coaches we strongly recommend that you get your boxers to use your email address as their contact email, that way you have all their information on hand. __________________________________________ ** Nominations and match ups are conducted via the club coaches not the boxers parents (unless the parent is the coach), Coaches please make all your parents aware of this and encourage them to direct all inquiries regarding match ups and so on through you and not through BQ, All coaches should be aware of the nomination and match up process.

25.01.2022 A reminder of whats expected today. Weigh in 10am-12pm Dr 10:30am - 12pm If you are late (for either) or dont have the required documents you will not fight. first bout 2pm... the draw is attached. you must sign in and out, every time you walk through the door. Essential personnel only, 1 parent only if a parent must be present, otherwise we recommend you drop them off and pick them once they have fought. please do not arrive at the beginning of the tournament (and hang around) if you are not in the first 10 bouts. coaches should be contacting their boxers to let them know what time they want them there to get ready. on average there are 6-8 bouts per hour depending on round length, coaches should be able to work out roughly what time you fight, we will start at 2pm sharp. if you dont fight until after the interval you do not need to be there before it. if you fight before the interval, you shouldnt be there after. Boxers should be gloved up and ready to go by the 2nd round of the bout before them. Again we need everyone to follow the conditions and guidelines to continue to hold tournaments. coaches please have your blue cards and or the email from blue card saying your application is pending. All the best to all the boxers competing today, enjoy yourselves.

24.01.2022 This Tactical Skills Video is for all the southpaws out there. Watch the video in the link and let us know your thoughts in the comments. We invite coaches a...nd athletes to ask questions and encourage open discussion about a boxers tactics when facing an opponent with an opposite stance. https://www.dropbox.com/s/a663a/BAL%20To%20The%20Right.mp4 TRANSCRIPT Welcome to the Boxing Australia Tactical Skills Identification compilation video of some of the worlds best boxers facing opponents using an opposite stance in competition. In this skills ID video we have a look at the tactics adopted between orthodox and southpaw boxers when facing off against each other. The most widely promoted tactical instruction is to circle around away from the opponents rear hand, so a southpaw boxer would be instructed to move to the right. But is it always the correct thing to do? Here we see four Cuba boxers defying convention and circling towards their opponents stronger rear hand in competition.

24.01.2022 Hi all please see notification from BA re the U19's & Elite titles. The BQ committee will now sit down and discuss our state titles, to see when and if they will go ahead.

24.01.2022 Attention all coaches and officials. As you are or should be aware the bluecard laws changed as of Monday the 31st August, if you dont have a bluecard or need to renew it the process has changed. Renewing is very simple all you have to do is create an online account, click the link below and follow the instructions. https://my.bluecard.qld.gov.au//registration/privacy-notice... Linking your card or applying for a new card is a little more difficult as Boxing Qld still havent been advised on the new process. Our understanding is that you should all have blue cards attached to your own clubs and then linked to Boxing Qld. Primarily you are coaching and training your athletes on a more regular basis than attending tournaments. We have been advising everyone on the impending changes for the last few months so this should not be a surprise. The new laws also state that you must have a card on you at all times and be able to produce when and if asked, this is not a simple BQ request it is law. So as of Monday the 31st August (last Monday) if you dont have a current bluecard on you or you are waiting for your renewal confirmation to come through (your card is out of date) you will not be able to corner or work with your athletes at tournaments in anyway shape or form. You will be required to show your card from this point forward at every event/tournament, we would suggest having it on display on a lanyard. There will be no leeway on this, if you submitted paperwork before the 31st, you will need to contact bluecard to find out whats happening with your application. Bluecard have made it very clear No card, No Start.. Its no good contacting BQ to find out whats happening with your card as we have no control over it once the paperwork has been submitted.

20.01.2022 The 2021 calendar is now being put together. We are going back to clubs hosting their own tournaments which means you will be responsible for crowd numbers according to any and all COVID restrictions. An email was sent out a few weeks ago to all clubs that had a tournament cancelled this year to nominate a date for next year as we thought it only fair that those clubs received first option. Those that git back to us your dates are now locked in, for thise that haven't respond...ed you've now had long enough to return your dates. The calendar is now open to all clubs to nominate to host a tournament. Please have a look at the calendar and requirements on the Boxing Qld web site before submitting your tournament request. There have been dates set aside for various events and breaks. At this stage you will be allocated 1 tournament only if the date is available. You must complete the tournament request form online (click the link below). We will not accept emails or messages and the request form must be filled out correctly with your preferred date and alternate dates. Do not assume that your preferred date is the date your tournament will be on, we will send an email to confirm your date. Also please keep in mind that all and any Boxing Qld and or Boxing Aus events that arise on short notice will take precedence over standard tournaments. If you have any questions regarding the calendar please send all inquiries to the secretary. https://www.boxingqld.org.au/eventsrsvp/73809/

19.01.2022 'No Card, No Start and changes to applications and renewals'. There is a new Blue card system coming into effect at the end of August. You must have your card before you can start work with children and your card must be linked to each and every organisation you are active in. ie;... 1 - if you work for a PCYC as a coach and received your blue card through the PCYC, it is not valid with Boxing Qld until it is linked - you cannot corner athletes without it.... 2 - If you run your own club and received your card through that you must still link it with Boxing Qld - you cannot corner athletes without it. 3 - if you received your blue card through Boxing Qld and do other work that requires a blue card you must link it to that organisation. 4 - if you do paid work that requires a blue card, you have to pay for your blue card, you cannot apply through Boxing Qld and then use it for paid work, it's the same as not having a blue card. 5 - The new cards will also have your picture on them Again you will have to have your blue card before you can corner at a BQ sanctioned event. These are the new Blue card laws and are enforceable across Qld. We will release more info as it comes to hand..

19.01.2022 Media release from BA re the High performance program commencing next year.

18.01.2022 A quick reminder to all coaches that you will need to have your blue card to corner your boxers. The best option is to have it visible on a lanyard along with your coaches ticket. We have provided plenty of notice and information since the 'no card, no play' law came into effect and also provided a sufficient grace period. We will be asking all coaches to present their card before the fights start.

18.01.2022 Running ahead of schedule, the interval will be at approx 4:10/4:15 until approx 4:30. Bouts 19, 20, should be here ready to go at the end of the interval..

18.01.2022 Boxing Qld would like to wish everyone a very Merry Xmas and a Happy New year. 2021 is shaping up to be a big one.

18.01.2022 With all the negatives that 2020 has thrown at us it was a great relief to see the gloves swinging again, Last Saturday was our first tournament back after the COVID shutdown and it was a resounding success. A big thank you to all the clubs and coaches that nominated, you made the afternoon what it was. Also a big thank you to all the officials that showed up, we had 7 new R&J there shadow judging to learn what its about and to become qualified R&J. The officiating on the we...ekend was exceptional and the feeling was that of unity and was great to see everyone working together to make it a success. The BQ committee have worked tirelessly to make this happen under the restrictions that have been set out for us and community sport. A big well done to the committee, the sport is in very good hands. While the afternoon was a great afternoon of boxing there are a couple of important issues we do have to address: Coaches, please ensure your athletes medicals are current and up to date, there were a few boxers on the weekend that showed up to weigh in and their medicals had expired. It is the responsibility of the coach to ensure their boxers have everything in order ready for fight day. If any boxer shows up without their medical in order or their serology they will not be cleared to fight. No annual medicals will be conducted on the day at weigh ins. Parents/Boxers, please go through/contact your coach for information concerning the tournaments, medicals, serology, processes and procedures. If you do have to contact a committee member (after you have spoken to your coach) for any reason please be respectful. If a committee member or a volunteer contacts you on behalf of boxing Qld for any reason, please be respectful. Coaches & Parents, There will be a sign in/out register that everyone must sign when they enter and when they leave, this is not an option, it is part of our COVID plan and is a legal requirement. Our Max number in the venue is 100. There are no exceptions. Attendance is for essential personnel only. This means 1 parent (per junior athlete) only if necessary, NO parents (if youre over 18yrs), friends, grandparents, brothers, sisters, cousins etc. If these directions cant be followed then we will have no choice but to cancel any further tournaments. For boxing to continue we all need to work together until the COVID 19 pandemic is under control for good and restrictions are lifted permanently.

17.01.2022 HI All, Hopefully COVID stays away and we have a trouble free year. The first event to get us under way is an open Development camp/R&J seminar/Sparring in Mackay on the 27/28th Feb, (by open we mean anyone can attend, they don't have to be registered with BQ). Once again another great opportunity being offered up. Don't forget it's an open camp so if you know of anyone who is thinking about boxing or a club that wants to take the next step, this is the opportunity to have a look. The most common punch to be thrown on its own is of course, the jab, in all its variations, that is in attack or defence, whilst moving in any direction, leading off or as a counter. More skilled boxers are entirely comfortable throwing a straight or bent-arm punch with either hand to the head or body depending on whichever is most appropriate at that time. In this skills ID video we have compiled a number of excellent examples of boxers demonstrating throwing single punches with either hand in a variety of situations.

13.01.2022 The final tournament for Boxing Queensland is on next Saturday the 28th in Townsville. NQ v SQ We've manged to put together a very strong and decent size card with 22 bouts scheduled.... With COVID restrictions easing recently we are now able to have spectators at indoor events. There are still restrictions on numbers but spectators are welcome. There will be no cover charge for the event as we think that this year has put enough strain on everyone and it would be a great idea if family's could just come along and enjoy the fights.

13.01.2022 Happy Fathers Day to all dads, step dads & grandads.

13.01.2022 Good afternoon All, Boxing Queensland would like to announce our new u19 development coaches for 2021. Frankie Pianto, Nicole Fletcher & Paul Utia.... There was a very good response to the EOI, whcih from a committee perspective is great to see as it shows that there is a great deal of interest in the development of our younger athletes. The 3 coaches selected were done so by the commitee taking into account various different factors, this takes nothing away from the other coaches that put an EOI forward and we hope that each and every one of you keep putting your names forward. The 3 succesful coaches will work closely with futures coach Mark Evans and we hope they will be kept busy with an expectation of a min 5 dev camps throughout Qld in 2021. Once again we would like to congratulate the coaches on their appointment. Kind Regards Boxing Queensland Committee.

13.01.2022 No Card, No Start and changes to applications and renewals. 4 - if you do paid work that requires a blue card, you have to pay for your blue card, you cannot apply through Boxing Qld and then use it for paid work, its the same as not having a blue card. 5 - The new cards will also have your picture on them Again you will have to have your blue card before you can corner at a BQ sanctioned event. These are the new Blue card laws and are enforceable across Qld. We will release more info as it comes to hand..

12.01.2022 Attention all clubs and coaches, please see email from Josh O'Brien below regarding our national insurance policy. Dear Member Associations, Over the past couple of weeks weve been clarifying some matters with the national insurer in regard to our policies and any claims made when in breach of any pandemic laws (particularly Victoria, but applicable to all MAs). Please be advised that:... - Any fines or penalties from breaching Covid-19 restrictions etc will not be covered by the insurance policies - If a client fails to follow the guidelines as set by federal and state authorities in relation to Covid-19 including, but not limited to, social distancing, the number of people allowed on premises, face covering etc and a claim occurs in relation to Covid-19, Sportscover will be entitled to consider denying indemnity under the condition that the client has failed to take reasonable care in avoiding a claim - In terms of training, the policy covers all boxers and officials (inc coaches) who are registered with their Member Association for training whilst they are acting under the direction and auspices of those who are registered with their Member Association. It should be noted that the clubs are not covered under this policy so that needs to be considered as well when considering who the member is under the direction of whilst training. - Getting injured whilst acting in contradiction to the law would not be covered under the policy Please ensure your membership is aware of the above, particularly when applying for exemptions as weve had in Victoria recently. Regards Josh Josh OBrien Chief Executive Officer

12.01.2022 We've had a few questions around the rego process, nothing has changed, it is still the same. Clubs and boxers if it's a new rego you hit 'registration' NOT renew, Boxers do not register until your club has affiliated: Boxers put your information in ie; first/last name and DOB, click on the drop down box, select and click on the correct age category, fill in the next page with all the correct details, don't leave any important info out.... At the end of it you will have the option to pay via PIN payment, this is the preferred and quickest option. Your registration is not complete until your payment is received, your blue book will not be sent until payment is received. If you don't make payment via the PIN payment method you must email [email protected] once you do make payment, if you don't email the notification, your payment may not get picked up until later. Again your blue book will be sent after payment is received. RENEWING boxer registration: Click on renew if you were registered in 2020 and fill in the form with the correct info. Again, your registration is not complete until payment is made. Please send through payment confirmation to [email protected] if you don't use PIN payment. CLUBS: must be affiliated before boxers start registering.. NEW club registration: Use the coaches name, DOB, don't worry about the ID. Click on club affiliation. As a new club your club won't be set up in the system so when you are asked to select a club, select Boxing Qld, on the next screen you will be able to add all your club details and make payment, again PIN payment is the preferred option. Your affiliation is not complete until payment is received in full. RENEWING club registration; The information you use will be the head coaches name and DOB, if their DOB does not work try putting in 1/1/1900, you should be able to select your club if you registered in 2020 otherwise you will need to complete a new registration. Please read the information on the registration page before registering..

See how some of the world's best boxers defy convention and circle towards their opponents stronger rear ha...nd when facing an opponent using an opposite stance. Watch the video in the link and let us know your thoughts in the comments. We invite coaches and athletes to ask questions and encourage open discussion about a boxer's tactics when facing an opponent with an opposite stance. https://www.dropbox.com/s/xjz21s/BAL%20To%20The%20Left.mp4 TRANSCRIPT Welcome to the Boxing Australia Tactical Skills Identification compilation video of some of the worlds best boxers facing opponents using an opposite stance in competition. In this skills ID video we have a look at the tactics adopted between orthodox and southpaw boxers when facing off against each other. The most widely promoted tactical instruction is to circle around away from the opponents rear hand, so an orthodox boxer would be instructed to move to the left. But is it always the correct thing to do? Here we see four Cuba boxers defying convention and circling towards their opponents stronger rear hand in competition.

11.01.2022 As previous years have been, this one will go down in the history books as one of the worst ever, not just for boxing but for businesses, family and sport in general. Here we are just days away from Xmas and the New Year and we're dealt yet another blow! The Boxing Queensland committee would like to thank our athletes, coaches, officials & volunteers for all their assistance throughout 2020. It has been the most challenging year that we have ever faced and without working together we would not have been able to achieve what we did. A special mention to Frankie Pianto from Eastside Boxing Club for the use of his venue & to our committee members who have worked tirelessly to make sure that there was some form of competition for our athletes to compete at this year. Next year will see us revert back to clubs hosting tournaments provided COVID restrictions keep easing, if there is any change BQ will reassess and advise as needed. The 2021 calendar is starting to fill up, with plenty of tournaments already scheduled. If you would like to host a tournament, please look at the calendar for available dates before submitting your request, once you find a date that suites, Head over to the events page and complete the tournament request form. 08.01.2022 Important Dept of Sport & Rec update 'Compliance with Health advice and Industry Plans We remind the sport, recreation and fitness community of the importance of complying with existing health requirements, particularly with regards to social distancing, hand hygiene and contact tracing.... IMPORTANT: from Thursday 24 December 2020 the Queensland Government will require all businesses (including clubs and associations) to implement electronic registration of participants attending a facility or event. Paper registration of attendees will no longer be sufficient to meet contact tracing requirements. The department, in consultation with the industry plan leads, will ensure the industry plans are updated to reflect these changes early in the new year. The Queensland Government will be conducting a compliance blitz including spot checks and inspections as an additional safeguard for the community. I would like to take this opportunity to commend the sport, recreation and fitness community on its efforts to date in responding to this unprecedented health crisis. It is important that we all continue to remain vigilant in our response to this crisis to help ensure the continued safety of Queenslanders and our industry remains open for business' All clubs (big or small), should be following the above directive. 05.01.2022 Attention Coaches This weekend see's BQ return to Competition Boxing after what has been a very uncertain year for all of us. We have seen a great response to this weekends event, however there are a number of clubs that have not formerly affiliated through the correct process online.... All clubs that were affiliated in 2019 are still active in the system which allows the club to come up as an option when athletes go online to register. It's a requirement that athletes register through an affiliated club. Those athletes who have registered/nominated under a club that is not affiliated will not be able to fight until the club is affiliated. We will be sending emails out today to all clubs that have not affiliated as yet 2020. All clubs and athletes must be financial. If you have any questions or believe you have paid your affiliation please don't hesitate to contact us, also have your payment receipt so we can follow it up to see what has happened and why it hasn't registered. Kind Regards Sam O'Malley Secretary Boxing Qld

Public Health Units across the State as well as Queensland Police have the ability to check-in and request information surrounding your club or association compliance any time. 03.01.2022 For today's Tactical Skills Video check out the arsenal of single punches that some of the world's best boxers throw in a bout. Watch the video in the link a...nd let us know your thoughts in the comments. We invite coaches and athletes to ask questions and encourage open discussion about the use and technique of single punches. https://www.dropbox.com/s/hh8p590pzci4/BAL%20The%20One.mp4 TRANSCRIPT Welcome to the Boxing Australia Tactical Skills Identification compilation video of some of the worlds best boxers using single punches in attack and defence in competition.

03.01.2022 Another very successful BQ tournament, 30+ exceptional bouts. Well done to all the clubs and coaches for following our COVID plan and making the day run smoothly. Well done also to the Officials, once again a great turn out.... Thanks to Frankie Pianto at Eastside for allowing us to use his gym. Finally well done to the BQ committee.

03.01.2022 As you are all aware (or should be) the blue card system and laws are changing as of the 31st August. Plain and simple No Card, No Play what this essentially means is that you must have your card in/on your possession to corner your athletes, an application pending is no longer acceptable. **All coaches please have your blue cards with you this Saturday, we will be asking to see them** Your card must also be linked to each and every organisation, club or business you coach ...or work at, ie; if you coach at a club, your card must be obtained through your club and then linked to Boxing Qld, alternatively if you obtained your card through boxing Qld it must be linked to your club. If you run a business having your blue card only through BQ is not valid within your business. If you train athletes in other disciplines like Muay Thia, kickboxing, MMA etc and so on, your blue card must be linked to those organisations, if it isnt linked it is the same as not having a blue card, these organisations should be aware of this as well. Having a blue card is a legal requirement. The Blue card system will be going nearly 100% online also as of Monday the 31st August, the form that is on the BQ website will not be valid and will be removed. See more

02.01.2022 Attention Coaches This weekend sees BQ return to Competition Boxing after what has been a very uncertain year for all of us. We have seen a great response to this weekends event, however there are a number of clubs that have not formerly affiliated through the correct process online.... All clubs that were affiliated in 2019 are still active in the system which allows the club to come up as an option when athletes go online to register. Its a requirement that athletes register through an affiliated club. Those athletes who have registered/nominated under a club that is not affiliated will not be able to fight until the club is affiliated. We will be sending emails out today to all clubs that have not affiliated as yet 2020. All clubs and athletes must be financial. If you have any questions or believe you have paid your affiliation please dont hesitate to contact us, also have your payment receipt so we can follow it up to see what has happened and why it hasnt registered. Kind Regards Sam OMalley Secretary Boxing Qld

01.01.2022 All Members, Coaches, Athletes & Officials, The Dept of Sport and Rec in conjunction with the Health authorities released advice on the weekend regarding the possible outbreak and clusters in Brisbane. There have been a large number of areas that have been identified as at risk areas, please see the Qld Health contact tracing information page for these areas and also possible effected businesses.... The advice is that anyone who has visited affected locations should not attend any organised sporting event, active recreation or fitness activities until further notice. In addition the recommendation is that organisations operating in affected locations avoid unnecessary gatherings and/or defer events where appropriate. Once again we are faced with the reality that community sport may be cancelled if further cases of C19 pop up. Boxing Qld strongly recommend that clubs within the identified areas on the contact tracing information page refrain from inter club sparring until further notice and if any members of your club are feeling even slightly unwell that they dont go to training or attend any events until such time that they have been tested and cleared for C19. This is definately the time to over react, the more cautious we are the better chance we have of avoiding a total shut down, And the responsibility lies squarley on you! At the moment the C19 situation is balancing on a knifes edge and it will only take one silly act of someone thinking that theyre above the recommendations or as the old saying goes Ill be fine I never get sick", to cause us to cancel the remainder of 2020. The tournament set for the 15th August is at this stage still going ahead, we will monitor all information and keep everyone informed with any changes or cancellations. If you have any questions or dont understand anything, please dont hesitate to contact us. Kind Regards Sam OMalley Secretary Boxing Qld

01.01.2022 A reminder of what's expected today. Weigh in 10am-12pm Dr 10:30am - 12pm If you are late (for either) or don't have the required documents you will not fight. first bout 2pm... the draw is attached. you must sign in and out, every time you walk through the door. Essential personnel only, 1 parent only if a parent must be present, otherwise we recommend you drop them off and pick them once they have fought. please do not arrive at the beginning of the tournament (and hang around) if you are not in the first 10 bouts. coaches should be contacting their boxers to let them know what time they want them there to get ready. on average there are 6-8 bouts per hour depending on round length, coaches should be able to work out roughly what time you fight, we will start at 2pm sharp. if you don't fight until after the interval you do not need to be there before it. if you fight before the interval, you shouldn't be there after.
