24.01.2022 When the Japanese entered World War II in December 1941 bombing Pearl Harbour and invading Malaya the possibility that Australia might be next became very r...eal. With the Fall of Singapore in February 1942, Prime Minister John Curtin declared that the ‘Battle for Australia’ had begun. The Battle for Australia ties together the major engagements of 1942 and 1943 including the Battle of the Coral Sea, the Battle of Milne Bay and the Kokoda Track campaign which contributed to Japan’s eventual defeat. Today, on Battle for Australia Day, we remember all the brave men and women who were prepared to defend Australia in the face of invasion, and especially those who made the ultimate sacrifice. Lest we forget.

24.01.2022 First meeting since February last night and it was good to see everyone in good heath since the Covid lockdown. Naturally Covid restrictions were adhered to and everyone remained safe. Management committee decided since it had been a while, we would follow up the meeting with a bit of a BBQ. Turned out to be a BBQ with a difference, meat and 3three veg. This was a very good touch and thank you ladies for cooking up the veg whilst the meeting was held.

23.01.2022 Last night a number of our members met at the hall to remember our good mate Gav who sadly passed away suddenly this week. As a tribute to Gav, his best mate Brian Brown flew the flag at half mast, and members shared in a BBQ and a few quiet ones the remember him. A funeral service will be held for Gav at the Boyne Tannum Memorial Parklands Wednesday 30th December at 10am

19.01.2022 Today marks the anniversary of The Battle of Beersheba On 31 October 1917, the heavily fortified town of Beersheba was the scene of a historic charge by the men of the 4th Australian Light Horse Brigade. Commencing at dusk, the brigade stormed the town, using their bayonets as swords in a highly unconventional charge. The momentum of the surprise attack carried them through the Turkish defences where they were able to secure the town before it could be destroyed by the retre...ating Turkish force. Members of the Boyne Tannum RSL Sub Branch will be joining the Mt Larcom Chapter to commemorate the day

17.01.2022 Small group of members today resumed our much missed Friday afternoon fellowship at the Hall in accordance with current Covid restrictions. Was fantastic to officially welcome back our good mate Max Ricketts in good health after his little adventure. Also a good opportunity to see the improvements made to the Hall over the forced break. A reminder to members as per email today, we will be holding our next general meeting on Fri 19th June and invite all our members along. Please advise Sec Mike of your intentions for catering purposes.

17.01.2022 This is a personal struggle for my family n I and is a very important subject. I can't say this will be my last post for a while, but maybe the last of many....... love you all! Certainly, in the most difficult moments of life you realize who are true friends or people who really appreciate you. Unfortunately, some friends will click "like" but they don't really take time to read your status if they see it's long. I have decided to publish this message to make people aware of the horrific byproducts of diabetes. The disease ruins your cardiovascular and renal systems.... And the drugs, like metformin, that are prescribed, may encourage the onset of dementia. Now I'm looking for those who will have time to read this post to the end. Diabetes is very invasive and is destructive to our body, even after treatment, and even with medications your body is still struggling with yourself trying to regulate the spiking/dropping of blood sugar levels all the time.. It's a very long process. Please, in honor of a family member or friend who has died, or continues to fight diabetes or even has diabetes themselves; copy and paste (not share) on your page. So I'm gonna find out who reads my posts. Please write "done" in the comments!! See more

08.01.2022 All smiles on Curtis Island over the weekend. Over 1 tonne (yes, you read that right) of marine debris was collected! Thanks to all the wonderful volunteers w...ho joined, and partners who made this clean-up happen. Including the Young Veteran Association members, local Walking with Warriors group, Queensland Parks And Wildlife Service Rangers Rick and Reuben, Gladstone Regional Council, Shell's QGC business, Santos, ConocoPhillips and many others. The biggest concern the coordinators had this trip was how were they going to fit all this onto the barge, but Curtis Ferry Services made it happen! Now to CQUniversity Australia Coastal Marine Ecosystems Research Centre (CMERC) to count all 150 bags of debris and put the vital information into the Australian Marine Debris Database. they may be there a while.

05.01.2022 Each year on the 29th September, the Australian public and fellow emergency service members pause to honour officers whose lives have been cut short while perfo...rming their duty as a police officer. National Police Remembrance Day commemorates police officers from all Australian police services who have made the ultimate sacrifice to protect the community. This important day is also a time to remember police officers who have lost their lives through illness or other circumstances. What you’re hearing in the video is the police ode: As the sun surely sets: dawn will see it arise, for service, above self, demands its own prize. You have fought the good fight: life’s race has been run, and peace, your reward, for eternity begun. And we that are left, shall never forget, rest in peace friend and colleague, for the sun has now set. We will remember. We will remember. Hasten the dawn. #TPE

01.01.2022 Our friends from #BoyneTannumRotary joined us last night for a social get together which could turn out to be a bit of regular occurrence and who knows, maybe a boost to our social membership

01.01.2022 This morning at our Sub-Branch we had the very great pleasure of welcoming family and friends of the late Jack Byron to a tribute morning tea. Unfortunately Jack's departure at the young age of 94 saddened many hearts and COVID restrictions at the time prevented all but very close members of the family attending his funeral. This morning tea was an opportunity to pay respects and reminisce the great memories we had of a true gentleman and great mate. Jack who often described... himself as Gladstone's oldest volunteer touched so many hearts with his infectious smile and you could find volunteering at many organization's in the Boyne Tannum Community. A huge thank you to the ladies of #boynetannumcwa who provided an excellent morning tea and I think dinner for many to take home "At the going down of the sun" RIP Jack "And in the morning, we will remember you"
