17.01.2022 The research showed a specific concentration of the venom killed 100 per cent of triple-negative breast cancer and HER2-enriched breast cancer cells within 60 m...inutes, while having minimal effects on normal cells. We found that the venom from honeybees is remarkably effective in killing some of these really aggressive breast cancer cells at concentrations which arent as damaging to normal cells," Dr Duffy said. The bees were put to sleep with carbon dioxide and kept on ice before the venom was extracted and injected into the tumours She said a component of the venom called melittin is what had the killing effect. The researchers reproduced the melittin synthetically and found it mirrored the majority of the anti-cancer effects of the honeybee venom. "What melittin does is it actually enters the surface, or the plasma membrane and forms holes or pores and it just causes the cells to die. Chief Scientist Professor Peter Klinken said it was a significant development, which provided another example of where compounds in nature could be used to treat human diseases. Dr Duffy said Theres a long way to go in terms of how we would deliver it in the body Bee venom has been used as a therapy for thousands of years. Episode 6 of Netflix series Unwell explains how doctors , scientists and naturopaths are collaborating and using bee venom to cure Lyme disease and other illnesses. https://www.instagram.com/tv/CDzSzMPDfxE/ Vice also covered Bee Venom as a therapy. https://youtu.be/8AocMBbQhO8 It is likely bee venom therapy was the first form of acupuncture. Bees dont need to die when donating their venom. People harvest bee venom using a glass plate near the entrance of a hive with electrodes that cause a vibration, the bees sting the glass but dont lose their stinger because it isnt going into skin so the barbs arent getting stuck. The venom needs to be scraped off the glass every 30 minutes and stored in a black bottle to prevent it from losing its potency. https://www.abc.net.au//new-aus-research-finds-ho/12618064

10.01.2022 Happy Saturday from us to you. This morning we are taking in some Sunshine by the Sea. Picking up litter whilst collecting shells. Marine debris, also known as marine litter, is human-created waste that has deliberately or accidentally been released in a sea or ocean. Floating oceanic debris tends to accumulate at the center of gyres and on coastlines, frequently washing aground, when it is known as beach litter or tidewrack. As unsightly as they are, heres the dangerous re...ality of trash on the beach and elsewhere: Plastic bags look like jellyfish and block the digestive tracks of sea turtles. ... Plastic sheeting from greenhouses has been found in the stomachs of dead whales. Balloons released are mistaken for food by marine life. Take 3 pieces of rubbish with you when you leave the beach, waterway or anywhere and Then you have made a difference. Take Action See more
09.01.2022 In the winter months we often keep our windows closed due to rain and the cold. Due to this we often dont realise that mould and moss can grow in the tracks. Always good to open them up and have a look every so often and give them a bit of a scrub as we dont want the mould spreading into the walls from the dampness. We found this today on a vacate clean where the tenants didnt ever open the windows.
08.01.2022 Every little bit helps. How wonderful to see everyone coming together with donations at such a sad time. https://www.facebook.com/734761679935423/posts/2613179358760303/

08.01.2022 This picture was sent to me by a dear friend and follower of the page. His cousin back home in Chester UK took it. What a glorious picture it is. Thank you Joe Daisies -- many varieties The shallow flowers of daisies provide readily accessible nectar and pollen to all native bee species. Flowering for long periods, these compact low-growing shrubs could find a place in even the smallest garden.
07.01.2022 Sinks are an ideal reservoir for bacterial contamination. Their basic design contributes to unwanted microbial growth. This makes them prime offenders for producing infections. Here a small reservoir of water acts as a physical barrier to prevent off-gassing sewage odour entering the room where the sink is located. Unfortunately, this reservoir creates the perfect humid breeding conditions needed for bacterial colonies to grow. Clogged drains serve as breeding grounds for mo...ld, mildew, bacteria, and other pathogens that can cause infections and respiratory issues. Maintaining clean and safe drains is a year-round task. Keep traps in place to prevent hair, food scraps, and other large items from blocking the drain in the first place. To lower your exposure to dangerous pathogens, we also recommend cleaning drain plugs weekly and running bathroom and kitchen vents to decrease excess humidity. 07.01.2022 WHAT IS SOAP SCUM? Soap scum is a white or gray filmy layer that covers the surfaces around our showers, bathtubs, and sinks. Soap scum can be found on shower curtains, bathroom fixtures, bathtubs, shower doors, tiling, and more. Similar to soap scum, limescale is a hard, off-white and chalky deposit that is typically found in kettles, hot water boilers, and hot water central heating systems. HOW IS SOAP SCUM FORMED? Soap scum is formed into a solid substance when soap is bei...ng used in hard water. On a scientific level, soap scum combines calcium and magnesium particles (ions) that are currently in the water with the soap, which forms into the soap scum substance. This formation is frequently caused by minerals in tap water that combine with soap and dirt to create a layer of scaliness over the surfaces in our bathrooms and sometimes even our laundry. Those with mineral-filled hard water are much more likely to have soap scum buildup, which can be difficult to remove if left for too long, as soap scum continues to build up each time the area around it is used. Soap scum that is left alone for build-up can combine with mold or mildew and have other discolorations and odorsand can even get as hard as concrete. HOW TO PREVENT SOAP SCUM? Using a daily shower cleaner can help stop soap scum from coming back, and you only have to spend a few minutes every day, using a squeegee or dry rag, depending on your space. Another soap scum prevention tip is to switch out your bar soap for a liquid or gel body soap, which will stop soap scum altogether. HOW TO REMOVE SOAP SCUM? Contact us here at the hive via message or give us a call, we are always happy to help and only using eco friendly natural products See more
