25.01.2022 Teddy Bear’s Picnic Kindergarten children celebrated the end of term with lots of fun and games with their teddies. Overall, the teddies were well behaved but there will no doubt be a lot of tired little teddies tonight (children included)! It’s been a big term for kinder - our first full term at school. We all managed to get some activities in outside before the rain. What a great way to end a wonderful term! Kindergarten Teachers

Codey is working with our girls to create resilience posters that we will proudly hang around our school grounds. Watch this space! Louella Longhurst || SistaSpeak Leader
23.01.2022 Raincoats, Rain and Canberra Adventures Despite some nervousness on Monday morning, our Canberra adventures are going ‘swimmingly’. So far, we have visited Old Parliament House, CSIRO Discovery Centre, the Australian War Memorial and Mt Ainsley. ... We also honed our skills at Laser Tag and even practised our ninja skills by dodging fat raindrops. It is a vastly different experience to previous years, both because of the weather and new rules at the venues. Still, all is going well and we are well and truly washed. The weather cannot stop us! 18.01.2022 Orienteering with Stage 3. As told by: Natasha Baker, Ella Callow & Jacqui Baines || Stage 3 Students... 54 students participated in orienteering at The Botanic Gardens yesterday. We successfully arrived at school, our bags full of food and our noggins full of brains (Or not!). The bus journey was windy but short, and we were there in no time. Mr Allen and Mr Kelly greeted us at the front gate of the Botanical Gardens. We headed into the gardens, excitement filled the air. Firstly, we received instruction from the Goldseekers Orienteering Club. Finally, they gave us our SI sticks (to record each checkpoint), and we got started. Our first course was underway and we were heading on our way to the checkpoint. Once we got to the second course most people knew what they were doing, but the third and fourth courses messed up our minds, a lot of us got lost. Those who attempted the fourth course were definitely feeling tired and sore upon finishing. It took around half an hour for most to complete, and was equivalent to 1.5 kilometers. By the end of it all, we were exhausted, but the ‘crazy’ in us said we were still up for the Star Relay Race. It required four people, and eight locations. We travelled in pairs to reach the checkpoints one by one. Our final challenge saw us return to the bus, which took us all back to school. Thank you to our teachers for organising a challenging, active and fun day.
17.01.2022 Our Chicken Coup - Yr 6 Enrichment & Extension Polly Adams || Year 6 Student Harmony Winterflood, Jacqui Baines, Sophie Blanch, Sienna Flannery, Eliana Farnsworth and myself have been working on making our school more sustainable (by getting chickens) since the start of Term 3.... We have had a lolly guessing fundraiser to buy supplies for the chickens. Having chickens at our school is sustainable because it will encourage kids to put their scraps in the school compost bin. At the very start of this project we did a survey around the school to see how many classes were actually using the compost bin. Only 70% of the school were using it. When we get the chickens next year we are hopeful this percentage will increase. 4 lucky students had the chance to name our chickens. Paisley, Rosie, Salt and Pepper were the names selected. This has been a great experience for every student involved in the Enrichment and Extension class. #LoveWhereYouLearn
17.01.2022 CLAP OUT UPDATE Due to the delightful downpour, we will now be holding the year 6 clap out through the admin building - you may greet them at the front gates! Best wishes from the Bletchington School team.
17.01.2022 Community Announcement Some of you will have heard that one of our students was involved in a pedestrian vs motor vehicle accident on Matthews Ave this afternoon. She suffered an abrasion on her forehead and has been taken to hospital for observation. We would like to thank all of the parents who gave and offered assistance, the police and ambulance officers who responded so quickly and our students who showed how very grown up and responsible they are when the situation call...s for it. This afternoon was a demonstration of our community ‘living’ our school motto, ‘Working Together’. This afternoon’s event also reinforces the importance of tomorrow’s national Walk safely to school day. Walk Safely to School Day asks that we all consider our transport habits and try to incorporate more walking as part of a healthy, active way to get around. And although walking all the way to school isn’t realistic for many of us, it’s quite easy to figure out how you can build a walk into your family’s daily routine. You can teach your child the healthy habit of walking more by: Walking with them the whole way to school If they get the bus, walk past your usual stop and get on at the next stop If you have to drive, park the car a few blocks away from the school and walk the rest of the way. Regular exercise like walking with your child not only helps them (and you!) beat chronic problems like obesity, heart disease, behavioural and mental health issues and diabetes. It also gives you a great opportunity to teach your child safe ways to behave around roads and traffic. Further important information about traveling safely to and from school can be found at: https://www.rms.nsw.gov.au/ro/safety-rules/road-safety.html Rob McPherson || Principal

13.01.2022 Happy SASS Recognition Week... (School Administrative and Support Staff) Our SLSO’s (School Learning Support Officer) provide incredible levels of care, personalised instruction and develop influential relationships with students right across our school. Their work is essential to the academic, social and emotional growth of our students, and is of tremendous assistance to our teaching staff.... Mr Spencer, our General Assistant, is a school maintenance genius and he is singularly responsible for Bletchington’s grounds looking as amazing as they do and for ensuring our rooms and play-spaces are pleasant and safe place to be. Our school would stop without our brilliant office staff. They are so often, the faces of our school; the link between school and home and they take care of almost the entirety of school administrative duties as well as being school nurses, appointment organisers, enquiry clerks, publicity officers, links between schools, researchers, purchasing officers and data managers. They throw themselves into these tasks with enthusiasm every day. We are so very grateful for all of our SASS staff! Mr McPherson || Principal

09.01.2022 Coke Eruption! 2W have been investigating the power of carbon dioxide and sulphuric gases. The students were enthusiastic about experimenting with Coke and Mentos, intrigued to study the result of combining the two.... After discussion, the class predicted Diet Coke would have a greater reaction then Coke. Once the experiment was complete (watch below), 2W’s closing theory was that whilst the bottle of Coke was more explosive, the bottle of Diet Coke was actually more reactive. Concluding that having less, or more sugar impacts on the level of explosion, reaction and the length of time it takes the carbon dioxide to settle inside the bottle. 06.01.2022 #naidocweek2020 #alwayswasalwayswillbe NAIDOC activity day. This years NAIDOC theme is ‘Always was, Always will be’, expressing the importance in understanding that the land we live on was and always will be Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander land.... The day started with Miah Naden, a proud Wiradjuri girl, leading our acknowledgement of country. The whole school then marched around Bletchington Oval to the sounds of the didgeridoo, played by students Lachlan Pringle and Kyle Morgan. Each class had made their own NAIDOC sign which was carried with pride as they marched. Our activity day then moved into our classrooms where students created calico bags with their own personal meaning, using Aboriginal symbols. Other activities included sand art, clay animal making, scratch-it art, boomerang decorating, story stones and beading. Every student took great pride in each activity they were involved in. Our stage 3 students were lucky enough to be involved in Aboriginal culture and artifact talks with Ms Sharon Bailey where they were shown Aboriginal tools and artifacts as well as possum and kangaroo skins. A great day was enjoyed by all. Thank you to our BPS Aboriginal Education Team for spending many hours organising, planning and sorting the activities for the day. Congratulations to all students who received awards during our NAIDOC assembly. Mr Bailey || A proud Dharug and Darkinjung man
