09.01.2022 Three truck drivers lost their lives yesterday. Three sons, fathers, brothers and partners. These men went to work and will never be returning home.... Our industry supplies everything you eat and drink. The car you drive and the fuel that runs it. Our industry provided everything that was needed to build and furnish you home. We supply your morning newspaper, the beans and milk for the coffee you drink on your way to work, we supply your desk, computer, phone and everything that went into the construction of the building you work in. We supply the clothes you wear, the shampoo you wash your hair with and the device you are using to read this post. We are labeled as cowboys, a nuisance on the road, drug addicts. We are scrutinized and have a level of compliance unmatched by any other industry. We work for sometimes 17 hour days for as little as $14 an hour. We do this six days or nights a week depending on the demand of the customers. We drive some roads that can only be described as goat tracks in 45degree heat, bush fires, floods, hail storms, snow and the freezing cold. We are told to drive when we are tired, to rest when we can’t sleep by bureaucrats that have never even been a passenger in a heavy vehicle. So next time you are stuck behind a slow truck, want to cut in before the lane ends, in a hurry to get to the supermarket. Remember we are sons, brothers, fathers and partners wanting to make it home to our family. This is our workplace and we want to make it home. #withouttrucksaustraliastops
