21.01.2022 Finally the best grading our long standing student Lachlan Bradridge completed his 1st Poom Black Belt to end a very successful day. I am so proud of you Lachie and I know Kwanjang Brad Hope would be estatic and so proud to see this 7 year journey from age 7 to now 14 ..such an achievement today ..so well prepared you showed endurance and courage and skill. Lachie you are the prime example of the difference between a white belt and a black belt is you never gave up. Even with the passing of Kwanjang which I know really was a sad experience for you ..you kept showing up and today you showed your worth. Of course we have to wait for a result but in my opinion and Ive watched many BB exams youre a champion in my eyes. Jan

I want to thank my instructors Cindy Rohan and Brad Reid for your expertise and great input into making this day amazing Also Glenn and Meleka who helped Lachlan get through his grading great team work. I certainly appreciate all the support I receive on days like this. Not forgetting instructor Macarla who sorted the paperwork and setting up table and report forms beforehand thank you. 11.01.2022 It has been an interesting 18 years since meeting Brad Hope online and then coming to Cairns and starting a relationship with him and his at that time new full-time martial arts school. The boyfriend part was as in any new relationship a learning experience the martial arts ...well I'd never had any experience of this in my life so was certainly one step at a time. I started with helping Brad with the admin ...that I knew well ..I got him a real computer desk and chair ......not the make shift old bar with bar stool ..I put systems into place for students and parents and together we started building the numbers in the school. I started training in Hapkido that was interesting to say the least ..49 years young lol and learning how to break tiles ...just for fun fall down in many ways and roll over and use weapons ....yes this was certainly an interesting journey and sometimes I would go off the mats back to my desk and just cry...it was just too hard but I never quit and at 54 I passed my 1st Dan Black Belt in front of Grandmaster Lee. A very proud moment . That was my training done ...I didn't wish to continue but off the floor I continued running the business with Brad. Over the years have seen so many students come and go 1000s actually ... some stayed a long time some just months but I knew and connected with them all. Then sadly Jr Gmaster Hope passed away January 2nd 2019 and somewhere I found the courage to speak at his farewell service and while speaking I saw a long time student sitting with his parents and I thought I must keep going he deserves his Black Belt ...it's what made me say ...see you all Monday and you all came, which I'm forever grateful and I kept running the school with Brad in my heart and his words always in my head.. Together with instructors we have come to now November 2020 and this is where I have handed over the reins to Sabom Brad Reid and Sabom Macarla Debel... The proud new owners of Brad Hope Family Martial Arts Smithfield . Oh and yes Lachlan Bradridge did get his 1st Dan Black Belt in September my time is done Thank you to all students past and present for supporting our school. We all know it's the best Martial Arts School in the world Thank you to all the parents and grandparents that support their kids and get involved..I'm always grateful for this. Thank you to instructors for continuing on since I took over...most grateful for you all. Last but not least I wish Brad and Macarla all the very best ongoing holding the values of the Taekwondo and Hapkido school that we have always stood for. At this age you need to know your pattern when you grade but sometimes grading day nerves get in the way.
