06.01.2022 Giant Pink Slugs of Mt Kaputar. These giant air breathing slugs can only be found amongst an ancient eucalypt forest atop the extinct volcano of Mt Kaputar in NSW. With an elevation of roughly 1,500m, Mt Kaputar maintains a temperature much cooler than the surrounding plains, creating an isolated ecozone that harbours several unique species confined to the mountain’s environment. Under the right conditions, you can find these fluorescent slugs foraging on wet rocks and snow g...um debris, quickly disappearing to moist refugia once the sun comes out.
