25.01.2022 The finished article. Only 3 days later than I said. My apologies for the crap photography and filters.
21.01.2022 The little sash family is off to their new home with grandad sash. A life lesson. Look to the ones who have gone before and learn from their triumphs, mistakes and reasons to improve upon and restore the work they did and to become better at your own work so that it may last longer than your lifetime. Don’t let the Friday afternoon rush get to you....ever. #woodwindows #windowrestoration #woodenwindows #sashwindows #yum #elegant #woodwork #launcestontasmania #launceston #kingsmeadows @ Punchbowl
18.01.2022 Sneaky under gawk by max and I’m frozen! This jewellery box is coming along great! Unfortunately the lighting in the shed is crap so photos have been lacking, but look how sexy the organic shaped round overs are they took me 5 minutes with a 150 year old moulding plane and the absence of dust and noise from a router made it a rather therapeutic experience! Stay tuned for more on how I did the drawer front. Any woodworkers starting out may appreciate the trick.... 18.01.2022 Watch this space. An exciting and involved project coming up that involves every element of working with wood in an intensified fashion. Short videos on the processes used, design elements and a look into how modern knowledge has shaped this project. #jewelrybox #big
16.01.2022 Autumn . Wet, cold and leaves dropping on fresh paint. Our gazebo served well and means that we can work in just about any weather . Sweet sash repair and paint stripping going on here. Poor fellas freezing though Thanks to some wicked clients, this job was a treat!

13.01.2022 Dilston window restoration aren’t the 6 lite windows gorgeous? We use traditional mortise and tenon joinery with a timber peg to hold everything until the glue dries. This allows for fewer clamps, less downtime and a quicker process so we can get them to you in a shorter time frame without compromising quality. #windowrestoration #woodworking #woodwindow #woodwindows #tasmania #timber #launcestonheritage #launceston #dilstontasmania #tamarriver
11.01.2022 We've been super busy this week. 4x 6 lite sashes built for a 200 year old building in Dilston, along with reglazing some old sashes. Built the most ridiculous/unusable mallet to go with my chunky ass chisel that I have refurbished and turned a new handle for as well as making progress on an old coogans kitchen cabinet that has been butchered by someone with a power plane (not the way to strip varnish folks ). Check out our Website: www.oldschoolwoodwork.com
09.01.2022 After a lack of posts, here’s two! (2x halves) This poor old post is still going strong but some renovations in the past have caused the death of its partner! So, either we spend hours searching for/ modifying cutters or we build replicas and turn it into perhaps a door post? Watch this space for more updates of this beautiful old house and its new lease of life! Peace out friends
07.01.2022 As a person who down right refuses vaksinations, medication or concoctions have often wondered why so many put so much faith in science, scientists, doctors, Organisations and governments. For myself, I don’t trust everything that doctors, professionals, or organisations say or recommend. After reading some stories about human experimentations conducted by the US government and military, I think that mistrust is well founded. Although, maybe it’s far more regulated (I doubt) the powers that be can still conduct a cover up. Also, human nature still seems to have the same weaknesses as it did when these experiments were conducted.
05.01.2022 Got roped in to help a mate out at an old, school dairy his grandad helped build when he was a student. Pretty cool, they made the concrete bricks themselves, in a mould. we had to make 2 doors, 3 windows, refurbish an existing door and swung an old king billy pine 4 panel door to replace the original one. 3 days from start to finish @sam.heyes #woodwindows #woodwindowrescue #woodwindowrestoration #timberwindows #tongueandgroove #barndoor #timber #woodworking #woodwork #carpentry #joinery #ringaroomashow #ringarooma #ringaroomaprimary #madeinglengarry
03.01.2022 Proportions. You can buy the best, get the most elaborately designed whatever’s and show it all off in a grand expanse of total crap or you can just get the proportions right and it doesn’t matter how expensive or showy it is, you’ll have a beautiful piece of architecture that invites admiration, not demands it. #zeehan #architecture #tasmania #nationaltrust #boom #town #quiettown #museum #oldschool #history #windows #woodwindows #westcoasttas #house #notahouse #generatorroom

02.01.2022 Hi folks. It’s been a while since posting. It’s been a while since even building a window! But all with good news.... In the last 10 weeks I have learned to work neater, cleaner and more organised. I’ve learned how to relay stones and point with lime mortar. Learned to research harder, learned about timber treatments, learned how stone walls get pushed straight, physics of how cracks in masonry work can often be caused by the roof structure and not the foundation and the tell tale signs, how to hang French doors so they are millimeter perfect and work well (3 x stuff ups to learn though) and that no matter what, always work so the problem is fixed or so they don’t arise. Build a legacy not a 10 year pile of turd or even a 50 year one but a for 100-150-200 just like our ancestors did. All this because I decided to shut shop and work for a heritage restoration company in Launceston so I could learn under tutelage not researching every single night and still be unsure of whether it was correct or not. Take care and watch this space.......
02.01.2022 I just love this picture. We built these two sashes from celery top pine (supplied by the owner) to build these 6 lite windows. Meanwhile saving the 150-200 year old glass to use on the lower story windows.
