22.01.2022 As we move into the second quarter of the year, take a moment to think about your progress. Is the business performing as expected? Are your team producing the desired results? Can you believe that the 2nd school term is about to start? If we dont have a plan and haven't clearly articulated what we want to achieve in the coming 3,6or12 months, then when life gets busy, we tend to get caught up and lose sight of our objectives. If you are not regularly connecting with your goals and measuring progress using a structured approach, then chances are success will elude you.



22.01.2022 A lot has been made lately of culture within a team. If you're in the Australian Cricket team, a state or federal political party or the head of a family, the culture is easily influenced when we accept the status quo. There are many aspects that go into creating a culture of success or for that matter a toxic culture. One of the most important however, is aligning the people in the group to a set of agreed values and strategic goals, and calling each other out. If you are the leader, then you must seek out the evidence that your people are on point and aligned. Its when assumptions are made and a results at any cost attitude creeps in that leaders have lost the people.

16.01.2022 As I sit in the office on the first working day of 2018, I'm reviewing what worked for 2017 and how 2018 can be better. It got me thinking about how the start of a new year is always a time when we press the reset button and prime ourselves for a year bigger and better than the last. But how do we do that without falling into the traps that most people face and find ourselves within 2 weeks right back to our old habits? In years gone by, more often than not, I would start a ...new years resolution, but found making them stick was the hard part. That was until I got systematic about it. So with that in mind I wanted to highlight the importance of having a system for planning out your goals so you have a recipe for success at work or home. This model is called the 4 Disciplines of Execution, and here is a quick breakdown of how you can use it to nail some of you big goals for 2018. 1) Set your compelling goal- something that will get you out of bed in the morning energised to work at it. Use the S.M.A.R.T principle to make sure you are locked in on what it is you want to achieve. 2) Create Lead and Lag indicators. Remember, Lead indicators are the things you control and if done well, they will influence results that will be you lag measures. e.g Lead indicators for fitness might be - Sleep 8 hours per night, Drink 3l of water per day, No Junk food, Gym 5 times a week. The Lag indicators could then be No# of kgs lost per week =Improvement in time for a 3km run= Weight increase for deadlifts = If you take care of the lead indicators the lag indicators should reflect your hard work. 3) Keep a score board. Track and measure the success of you lead and lag indicators. Understand how staying on track or skipping some steps influences your outcomes. this way, you can work out if you are winning or losing. If you're winning, then keep doing it, if not, change things around so you like what you see on the scoreboard. 4) Have a cadence of accountability. Set yourself weekly or fortnightly review points to check in on progress. Celebrate your wins on the scoreboard or reflect on your losses and learn from them. Its important in this step to keep yourself accountable. Don't blame others, this is your goal and ultimately you are the only one that can make it happen, so don't bullshit to yourself. If you follow this system, you give yourself every chance of success. On the off chance you come up short, you will have all the evidence in front of you to know where the gaps were.
