25.01.2022 Howdy Folks, its been another wet and cool week here at Braemar with another 72 mm of good steady rain, that makes near on 150 mm in the past 20 days, you would think the Lake Level would be coming up very quickly with all that run off water coming into the system, well it seems not, not even a 1% rise in that 20 day period Folks, makes you wonder where all that run off water went, it would be interesting to hear from our friends at the Northern end of the Lake about the inf...lows coming in from the River and the Tantangara viaduct, pics would be better if possible,no use asking Snowy Hydro about it, they refer you to their website which are the figures I am quoting, like many other people, we would like to know why 150 mm of rain does not translate into a reasonable increase in water levels, no go, its a state secret it seems, anyway, I suppose we should be grateful it is not falling, poor old Jindabyne is experiencing the same thing, down to 54% after holding around 83% during the entire summer drought months. The run off around this area remains very good, as seen in the pics below which were taken today at 4pm, even the dam at the Eucumbene Trout Farm is full and over flowing as are all of the creeks around here, there is even water lying on the ground around Cooma which we haven't seen in a very long time, all positive stuff, hopefully sometime soon the Lakes will benefit. The fishing has not fired up despite the run off which is disappointing, there were several visitors to the Park and Lake over the past week or so and most drew a blank, Vic Lomas managed a nice Rainbow around 500gms on a lure last Thursday morning and missed another, since then conditions have been less than stellar so not much fishing has been done, the tracks leading to and around the Lake foreshore are a complete bog and are badly cut up right now, it is advisable that walking from the upper level track is the safest option. The wet weather is not done with either, the forecasts for this coming weekend are very ordinary, anyone planning on coming down this way should consider if the trip is necessary, Friday and Saturday August 21st and 22nd are forecast to be particularly vulnerbale to heavy snow and icy conditions down to very low altitudes, so keep that in mind Folks. The camp power supply will be interupted for a few hours on Thursday August 20th (weather permitting). The camping ground here at Braemar is currently closed to visitors due to the nature of our shared facilities at the amenities block which is only available to onsite owners who do not have private facilities in their set ups, the public health advisory may change soon, in the mean time we can do very good rates on cabins, best to call before making a trip though. Oh, and a big thank you to Marilyn from Shepparton for the licorice lollies. See more
24.01.2022 Well Sunday morning saw more snow on the ground here at Braemar and across the district with cold conditions prevailing and more snow to come, in fact it is snowing at camp right now at 5.20pm but not sticking just yet, the forecast is for cold conditions to continue for a few days yet with early morning temps in the munus 4c to minus 6c range over the next few days, run off is now starting to make an impact on the Lake Level even though this has not been reflected on the Sno...wy Hydro website. Many thanks to Wil Gengalacki for providing the aerial shots of Braemar this morning, what a fantastic perspective of the Park and down at the Launch area, Wil also managed 2 very nice Browns around at the small wall area of the Lake using Tassie Devil metal variety lures, the largest going 1342gms which is great news, lets hope the fish start to co-operate on a regular basis. Just on road conditions, surfaces will become extremely hazardous over the next few days as Ice sets in, please be very careful. See more
24.01.2022 Howdy Folks, a very cold weekend has greeted the many Braemar visitors with snow on the ground early Saturday and minus 5c to boot, only got up to 7c today and just now at 5pm we have dipped down to 4c, more snow apparently coming our way. The cold conditions did not deter the many anglers who braved the conditions today, trolling and bank fishing, reports suggest lots of smaller fish around at the moment, but Sam Cupitt from Berrima and James Cole from Melbourne both managed Keepers trolling this afternoon, well done guys.
22.01.2022 Just an update on the road situation, apparently there are tree's down all across the district, the Eucumbene Rd beyond the school is open right now but that could change quickly, some guests attempted to drive over to Jindabyne way at 10.00am and turned around just past the Dam Wall turn off, very heavy snow across the Road there and not passable right now.
22.01.2022 Howdy Folks, "she's a coming around the bend", the water is sneaking around into Andy's Inlet for the first time since 2017, still quite a way to go to be of any benefit to anglers and boat people for mooring purposes, but it is an encouraging sign indeed, water level now sits at 36.80%. Nice sunny mild conditions at Braemar for the past few days with a sometimes tricky breeze but generally conditions have been good for both land based anglers as well as for the boats, catche...s are becoming more regular also with both Browns and Rainbows very active at the moment both close in to the banks and also trolling at depths around 3m, Eric Flynn had a magic afternoon catching 2 nice Browns on #112 Bleeding Frog as did Oleg and son Max encountering some nice Browns and Rainbows casting from the Bank using Rowley's Riot # 89, meanwhile Vic and Shirley had a leisurely morning in the sun, "Not much room left on the table" after picking some mushrooms. 20.01.2022 Howdy Folks, another fairly busy weekend here at Braemar with a few guests enjoying the calm conditions, this must be some sort of record for the district, no wind across Eucumbene for a week now, unheard of realy, it's a pity the fish have been a bit tough on the Anglers chasing after them, supposed to be some sort of rain event coming our way over the next few days, again, we have heard it all before, hopefully this time we actually get something decent. The Lake level has ...gone down slightly from last week and is sitting at 28.18% down from 28.28% last weekend. As mentioned, the fishing has been tough all week although Grandad Ross Isedale ventured out this morning with Harry and Jacob and managed a nice Brown of 580 gms cleaned, well done guys. There is likely to be an interuption to the camp electricity supply in late July, it is all weather dependant, if you were planning a trip it may be worthwhile calling the office for details, right now we have been advised July 27th but that could change, expected outage would be around 6 hours, we will also be carrying out test and tag of electrical supply cables over a period of about a week beginning July 13th, if your set up requires a reset after a power outage please let us know. 20.01.2022 Morning everyone, heavy snow came across the district from late yesterday and is predicted to continue today and into tomorrow, currently 1c at 10.30am after an overnight low of minus 2c, unfortunately the wind has picked up a bit so the chill factor is quite considerable, its fair to say it will be an inside day here at Braemar. No reports on road conditions but there is now ice, snow and slush on the road leading into the Park, chances are there will be signifcant drifts across the roads over the whole area, travel advisories are in place from Cooma, anyone planning on coming this way should expect fairly ordinary road conditions for a couple of days yet. Highly unlikely any fishing will be done for a few days as well, the Lake is still rising very very slowly now sitting at 28.8 %.
18.01.2022 Very good weather conditions here at Braemar today and some fish action to report, some of our local brigade set off this morning in fine and sunny conditions with a light Westerly, with the Lake looking a treat it wasn't long before Max Gengalacki was into a nice Brown around 500gms caught on a Tassie Devil "Hornet"# 52. The Lomas clan also had some early action with Vic getting a nice Male Rainbow casting a Bullit Lure from the Bank, also pictured are Alan and Christine Lomas enjoying leisure time at Braemar. Michael Torpy and his crew managed 8 fish over their weekend trip, most fish were caught using Powerbait Chunky Cheese. The Lake is now 30.58% which is its highiest level in over 12 months, hopefully I get a chance to wander over to Jox this afternoon to see how things are shaping up there.
18.01.2022 Howdy Folks, well its been a cold and dull week here at Braemar with about 40 mm of useful rain and heavy snow to top it off, not a lot of change in the Lake Level which is surprising given there should have been run off, it is sitting at 28.24% slightly up from last week. The fishing has been a challenge as you can imagine, the Hansen gang from Newcastle were not going to let the weather get in the way of their break, 7 year old Grandson Oliver Grant managed a nice Brown of 1066 gms cleaned using a Combat Shard on Thursday, well done Oliver.
18.01.2022 Howdy Folks, the Lake contiunes to rise and now sits at 31.63% which is an increase of nearly 2% since the last report, it is looking very good, particularly at the Northern end of Braemar and over in Jox Cove, the fishing is still a bit patchy but can only improve once the fish realize food is close to the Banks now, a shot of the lower western part of Jox Cove shows what the fish can now access, I caught a 800gms Brown there late Tuesday afternoon on stick caddis. Other res...ults from during the week were Max Gengalacki with a nice Rainbow of 628gms, Ross from Banks ACT with a Brown of 708 gms and a beaming smile on young Bill Sergi with his 688 gms Brown caught on Powerbait over at the Spillway, well done. Some useful storms bringing much needed rain during this afternoon after a 3 week dry spell so its all encouraging news this report. The email server for Braemar was hacked about 5 weeks ago so some indiscriminent emails have been floating around since then, please be aware that these emails contain malicious software Viruses, dont open any attachments and please let us know if you happen to receive one, our server has been cleaned and appears to be operating normally now, sorry for any inconvenience. 18.01.2022 Howdy Folks, well the sun made an appearance this afternoon after 3 days of good rain, we managed 62 mm of soaking rains since Friday morning which is good news for the Lake which appears to have risen quite a bit since last week, todays pictures show the steady flow from Andy's Creek into the Lake and the soaked and water logged ground down towards the Lake which hasn't seen water running and lying on it for years, all stuff to get excited about, now we only the need the fis...h to start co-operating. No updated Lake Level this week as Snowy Hydro have not updated their site for some days now, everything to do with water in NSW and in particular Snowy Hydro has been a big secret in recent times, there is no denying the photo's though, the level has increased since last week, I'm guessing close to 29.5 ,maybe 30% given the fact that water now lies into Tussock Grass and weeds to the left of the launch area, there should be significant run off into the Lake for a few days yet. Bait fishing should start to show some results soon, so maybe a quick trip here will bring results for those who can spare the time, a big shout out to our many Victorian friends who are doing it tough in more ways than one right now, we miss you and hope there is a chance you will be able to make a trip here soon, our Victorian visitors make up 20% of the onsite owners and around 50% of the Park's income, stay safe and stay well. 16.01.2022 Howdy Folks, fine sunny weather here at Braemar right now, very good fishing conditions and the fish are out and about as well with most anglers encountering some sort of action each session, fly is really starting to come on as well with Midge hatches now a feature from mid afternoon, so that will only get better. Puzzling to see the water level dropping slightly over the past week or so, the feed in from Tantangara is still happening so its a mystery why the water would be disappearing seeing everyone has had decent rains, anyway, thats Snowy Hydro and NSW Water for you. Stephen Roberts along with neice Cassandra managed 3 nice fish on this morning's troll, all caught on the trusty 112 Bleeding Frog, Grandpa Vic tagged along for the photo shoot, well done guys.
15.01.2022 Howdy Folks, well its been a week of variations both in weather and fishing results, there were about 70 people onsite for the long weekend and most found the fishing a bit tough, the wind did no favours either with very blustery conditions right up until yesterday (Thursday), always nice to catch up with our regulars and hope to see everyone again soon. There has been 39mm of rain over the past week and the Lake continues to rise, now sitting at a tad over 34.5%, still a bit... miserbale right now (Friday Afternoon) but the next few days should see an improvement, so hopefully the fishing will improve. Nathan Isedale sent along a pic of a Brown he caught over the weekend, thanks for that and the guys in cabin #9 who are first time visitors to Braemar have done reasonably well with 9 fish already in the bag, pictured below are Nathan's Brown along with Tom, Peter and Mark with a sample of the Browns they have caught here at Braemar, well done everyone. See more
15.01.2022 More Braemar action today with our Victorian friends making up for lost time, Jason and Bert De Jager got amongst some nice Rainbows on their trip, pictures below, well done guys, sorry I didn;t get to catch up, Stephen and Cassandra were at it again this morning with a mix of 6 fish caught trolling in front of the Park, once again #112 doing the job, well done everyone.
15.01.2022 Howdy Folks, its been a weather week to forget at Braemar beginning with strong winds and now rain and snow to greet the weekend, not much in the way of fishing this week as you can imagine, the Lake continues to rise and is now sitting at 32.29% which is 1.14% higher than last week, hopefully this trend continues for quite a while. Just a quick note for everyone to pass along please, those people itending to travel here for the long weekend need to be aware of the Covid rest...rictions still in place across all of NSW, everyone is required to regiser your attendance at the Park on your arrival or close to it, no more than 5 people in any onsite set up at one time on the proviso that every person inside can enjoy 1.5m social distancing, no more than a gathering of 10 persons outside in any one group, the only exceptions are for up to 6 family members who live in the same family house, in those circumstances 6 persons may be inside an onsite set up at any one time, use common sense please. The boat launching area is probably not going to be accesible, heavy rain and snow has made the tracks leading to that area a bog and very very rough, also with the water rising considerably there is very little room to now turn around to back up, the old track along the fencline requires vehicles to back up around 60m at the moment, there is a slight possibility this may change if the rising water gets past the hump at the end of the tracks, also there are significant floating obstacles scattered around Braemar and the Headlands area so please be aware of those, call ahead for updated details if you are bringing a boat otherwise the dam wall will probably be your best option, look forward to catching up with everyone and hopefully the fish co-operate. See more
14.01.2022 Howdy Folks, 29 mm of rain last week which is helping to ensure the Lake keeps on rising, now sitting at 36.48% and looking good, there was a bit more fish action over the past few days with some fine catches coming in, trolling continues to be the most successful method accounting for most fish although there is now considerable actvity around the banks with cruisers being noticed along the Braemar foreshore and around into Jox, the cruisers are still a bit nervous it seems ...but at least they are out and about having a sticky beak and with fine weather coming our way for the next few days should only improve chances for anglers, unfortunatelly though it appears rain is headed our way just in time for the weekend making it the 6th weekend in a row with rain. Peter Thompson managed a very nice Brown of 1663gms using a min min lure on one of his outings over the weekend and his partner Nat managed a very nice Brown this morning, both pictured below, well done as first time visitors to Braemar. Vic Roberts had an active session today (Monday) encountering 5 fish whilst trolling around near the Dam Wall Sanctuary Cove area, lots of fight in the fish he hooked into as well as some challenging situations with his tackle and equipment, it was a successful trip though with a fine Rainbow brough back to camp, well done everyone. See more
13.01.2022 Howdy Folks, finally some reasonable fish action to report this week with some nice catches coming in over the past few days, the Etchells gang managed 14 fish on thier trip here at the beginning of the week, Aaron Fenning and Justin Etchells are pictured with a sample of the fish encountered, well done to the boys who were in a group of 4 who fished over 3 days using various lures and travelled wide across the Lake, most action happened in the early to late afternoon. Tim an...d Chris Webb from Jerangle way caught 2 nice browns and 3 rainbows over in Jox late Thursday on Celta's, all fish were released, today (Saturday) Peter Giles caught a nice Rainbow over in Jock''s on an Olive Woolly Bugger mid afternoon and not to be out done his sister in law Margaret Giles caught a nice Rainbow down the front of the Park on a Rowley's Riot Tassie Devil # 89, both pictured below. For some reason the traditional bait combinations are not attracting too many fish at the moment, as most regulars would know bait is usually the go to method at this time of year, so far that has not happened. The Lake continues to rise and looks a treat at 30.3%, there is still plenty of snow to melt which should keep the inflows coming in for a while yet, not much in the way of rainfall forecast for us in the coming week. See more
12.01.2022 Howdy Folks, the Lake continues to rise and now sits at 38.28% with more rain to come in the next couple of days, so the trend continues, the fishing, particularly trolling has picked up, Peter Seary managed a nice Brown last week during his visit as part of the Mittagong gang, well done Peter, also Will Edgar becomes a 3rd generation family member of the Maguire clan to fish at Braemar, pictured here with a typical Brown caught last weekend, well done Will, right now there i...s a dedicated group of anglers visiting as what would have been the annual Melbourne Cup event which had to be cancelled this year, reports suggest that some anglers are doing well, there should be more detailed reports coming in over the next few days, meanwhile Ben Wright a very nice 2.3kg plus tagged Rainbow this morning over in Collingwood Bay, well done Ben. The Victorians will be able to visit Braemar again from November 24th, this is the first day Victorians can visit Braemar, dates before November 24th are still under restrictions for travel and self isolation, so all our Victorian friends and supporters please be aware of this, we look forward to welcoming you all back. Just an update for people trying to book accommodation online, please do not attempt to do this, all bookings must be made via phone for the time being thanks. See more
11.01.2022 Well the district woke up to a white blanket of snow this morning after a very cold windy night of minus 3c, some fantastic shots of the Park and Lake taken by guests shows the thinning cover around 9.30 this morning, it seems more is on the way, definitely stay inside conditions right now.
11.01.2022 Howdy Folks, fine and sunny conditions at Braemar for the past couple of days with a pesky breeze still having an influence every now and then, generally conditions have been good for fishing though and some results are coming in now on a regular basis, Michale Dale ventured out with Vic Roberts and managed a typical Brown around 500gms on Tuesday and another on Wednesday, Vic also managed a Rainbow of similar size trolling a worm behind a ford fender, both anglers are holdin...g a sample of recent catches here, but the feature catch from today goes to Shirley Worledge who managed a very nice Brown of 1172 gms cleaned using a Bleeding Frog Tassie (#112) caught near the entrance to Jox Cove, it was the first outing for Shirley in 9 months, Peter and Natalie Thompson from Albury caught a mix of 5 Rainbows around near Coppermine this afternoon using the discontinued #14 Tassie Devil, well done to all. The Lake continues to rise and now sits at 35.87%, the forecast is for some weekend rain, not a lot, but enough to be a nuisance by the sounds of it, hopefully results continue to be encouraging so make a trip here and take advantage of the deal on cabins running until the end of next week for new bookings. See more
09.01.2022 Howdy Folks, it has been a pretty windy week here at Braemar so fishing condtions were tough, however the weekend has been fine and sunny with a light breeze, the fishing remains tough though unfortunately, Valentine managed a nice rainbow around 40cm using Chunky Cheese Powerbait mid Saturday, well done Val, Greg Joloudev sent a long a pic of the nice Brown caught near the Dam wall last weekend, thanks Greg, some surface feeding was observed late yesterday along with early morning cruisers today, so perhaps the fish are starting to roam the edges, hopefully that continues with the water rising to 29.5 % and looking a treat today. The camp ground will be open from next weekend, campers/caravaners please bring along your antispetic handwash and observe the social distancing in all areas thanks.
08.01.2022 Howdy Folks, a nice sunny day here at Braemar after a minus 6c start, seems mornings will be similar if not colder all week, the Lake is looking good sitting at 28.93%, now we just need fish action, possibly another wet weekend coming up according to the forecast and maybe slightly warmer conditions.
07.01.2022 Heavy snow at Braemar last night and this morning, dont know the status of the road just yet but it's likely the Eucumbene hill will be very tricky, good chance its going to be a stay inside day although a couple of our guests had a quick snow board down to the water, the test and tag of electrical cables wont take place for a few days.
07.01.2022 Howdy Folks, well Sunday was very windy here so not a lot of fishing was done, the Jeloudev and Tozer gangs managed some fish on Friday and Saturday with a mix of Browns and Rainbows up to 40cm and one fairly decent Brown at 65cm, hoping to get some pics sent along soon. It looks like we are in for a very windy week here and some rain to finish it off, just in time for the weekend once again. Not a lot of change in the Lake Level, almost 29% now.
07.01.2022 Howdy Folks, the wet conditions have continued with rain and drizzle the feature these past few days, only managed 6c on Monday under drizzly sky and light winds, hardly good conditions for anyone but it did not deter the Mittagong Gang who are here for their annual get together, most anglers have had some success as proven by Glen James with this fine brown caught trolling on Monday weighing 1593gms cleaned, well done Glen. Cruising Browns and Rainbows are often visible to b...ank anglers now with many lure anglers becoming frustrated at the chases but no hook ups, it wont be long before the fish are on, so if you have spare time visit here in a cabin or house and try your luck, our deal month continues into November. The Lake is now sitting at 37.45% and with very heavy falls in the catchment area over the past week this trend should continue See more
06.01.2022 Howdy Folks, very nice weather at Braemar and around the district over the past few days, quite a few visitors are at the Park but the fish haven't really co-operated just yet, Karen Bisby managed a nice Brown yesterday weighing 931 gms cleaned, well done Karen.
06.01.2022 Take up the challenge, stay at Braemar Bay Holiday Park during October 2020 and April 2021 for a chance to be in the running for some great prizes, special deals on cabins and houses for 4 days or more who mention this Challenge for all dates except Dec 15th 2020 to Jan 15th 2021, or Easter week 2021, contact us on 0264568805 to make a booking.
05.01.2022 Howdy Folks, finally some decent rain here at Braemar and around the district, just on 70 mm in the past 3 days which is very welcome indeed, some area's close by had over 100 mm but I hear that the upper catchments missed out and only got around 30 mm. Pictures taken this afternoon at 4.30pm showing the current Lake Level which is 28%, slightly down on last week but likely to rise once the run off sets in, great to see Andy's Creek with a bit of a flow to it, pic taken just ...in front of the launch pad (concrete), the sandy soak opposite there has collapsed from the run off racing down the hill, you can imagine that this run off is happening right across the entire Lake so Levels should rise if left alone. Unfortunately the fishing has been very poor recently, no fish recorded for 9 days now, there were several people fishing all methods over the past week and a bit, all for no results, hopefully that turns around soon. See more
05.01.2022 Howdy Folks, finally some fine conditions here at Braemar over the past couple of days although that pesky wind is still a nuisance influence every now and then, the Lake is looking fantastic and is still rising nicely now sitting at 35.55% which is a 1.5% increase over last week, the fish continue to be a bit elusive although most anglers are now encountering fish on their outings, Peter Giles managed a nice Brown around 800gms on Sunday after stalking the cruiser in shallow... water on the east bank of Jox, the fish took a size 16 Griffiths Knat, well done Peter, The Vikings from Canberra had mixed results for their weekend trip although some very decent fish were caught, photo's to follow hopefully, Damian Garbutt had some luck early Saturday before the wind took hold, Damian also had some unfortunate car trouble, hope everything turns out OK Damian, your personal items are being taken care of, hope to see you back here soon under better circumstances. More midweek rain forecast for the district so the Lake should continue its upward trend, all we need now is for the fish to turn up, we are running deals on cabins and houses for the next 2 weeks, stay 7 days and pay for 6 at a reduced rate, stay for 5 days and pay for 4, contact the office for details . See more
04.01.2022 Howdy Folks, well the rain and storms continue across the district, we picked up another 32 mm of rain this past week and the Lake now sits at 37.65%, conditions are wet everywhere so be careful when launching, very slippery down there. The Mittagong gang completed their annual event braving the conditions and enjoying each others company, it seems everyone caught fish which is a great result, the "Maybee" boat being the outstanding performer across the fleet !!!!!! The Simon... and Wayne show provided some pics of their outings, thanks guys. Just on a side note, there will probably be sporadic reports and updates to the Facebook page over the next few weeks, so if you have any pics or comments to make suitable for the page send them along to my mobile please and I will post when I can, that number can be obtained from the office, Joe will be onboard at the office for possibly a few weeks so please be understanding as he tries to navigate, looking forward to catching up soon. See more
03.01.2022 Howdy Folks, weather conditions are a bit challenging right now across the Snowy Mountains with very strong winds and storms being the feature over the past 24 hours, prior to that though fishing had generally been OK with some nice catches coming in from all methods. The Falasca boys did well on their mini trip with nice Browns and Rainbows caught on fly morning and evening, Jason Whitacker and Peter Cody have also enjoyed some decent action fly fishing around the edges with Browns up to 1.5kg caught so far, Stephen Reynoldson managed a red hot session just after the first wave of storms on Saturday night catching 5 fish casting mudeyes, the best being 1564gms, but the talk of the Park is the 766gms Rainbow caught by Neal Watson from Dalmeny which is a tagged fish, hopefully it brings a decent prize for Neal, well done everyone.
03.01.2022 Howdy Folks, a bitter cold and windy day here at Braemar with brutal conditions to follow for the rest of the week, snow and ice is definitely in the mix, so if you are planning a trip down this way please be careful. The fishing improved a little bit up until yesterday with the Bolitho boys, Paul and Jayson managing a mix of Browns and Rainbows up to 50cm, these fish were caught on bait and lures, well done, first known catches for nearly 2 weeks, the fish Paul and Jayson caught are in good condition as shown below. A couple of the skitube boys made visits last week and whilst there were no catches they did mention sighting a few decent fish around the edges, which is also an encouraging sign. The Lake is rising slowly to 28.21% since last week, this trend should continue if the weather forecasts are accurate.
02.01.2022 Howdy Folks, Sam Cupitt and Nick Sloan had a reasonable trip with both getting amongst some fish while visiting Braemar, well done guys and look forward to hosting you again soon.
