24.01.2022 This was a wonderful community effort and a great weekend. Well done Braidwood.

24.01.2022 About seven weeks to go until the spectacular re-enactment of the capture of the Clarke brothers. The reading of the trial transcript is completely booked out. So is the official dinner. We are sorry if you missed out but don't let that deter you from turning up to the main event on Saturday 29th at the showground. The cast and crew met last week to discuss the details and have a final fitting for the costumes. Here are photos of Tom and Luke Clarke dressed as bushranger b...rothers Tom and John Clarke. The clothing has been carefully created to closely resemble the actual clothes worn by the Clarke brothers when they were photographed in Braidwood following their capture. They are wearing cabbage tree hats. Tom has a collared vest and black coat edged in velvet and John has a neckchief around his neck over a spotted shirt and tweed coat. The revolvers the Clarke brothers will be using in the re-enactment are antique 1851 model Navy Colts, the same type of revolvers used by the bushrangers when captured on 27th April 1867. See you at the showground. See more

23.01.2022 A happy and hard working team of volunteers spent the weekend building a replica of the Berry hut at the Braidwood Showground. You can't afford to miss this event. Buy tickets at the gate on the day or catch the shuttle bus from town and pay on the way.

18.01.2022 Miss out on the trial? Never fear, the Braidwood Times made it there.

18.01.2022 The hut is finished and looking grand. If you need convincing that this is an event not to be missed you can listen to Peter Smith talk about it all tomorrow morning on ABC 702 at 7.20. He will also be interviewed on ABC Illawarra and will be on ABC Dubbo on Friday. All eyes on Braidwood this weekend. Gates will be open at 1230 and the event will start at 2.30. You can pay $10 at the gate to see this historically accurate spectacular. Costumes, antique firearms, horsemanship. See you there.

18.01.2022 Braidwood has been affected by the fires in so many ways and our team of volunteers are understandably tired and distracted. We have therefore decided to cut our opening hours back to one day per week while we work to rebuild our strength. While the doors will be closed more often we will still be working on new displays and we will continue to pursue our efforts to make the museum sustainable and relevant. We are a very small community but we shall continue to do what we can to preserve and protect our precious heritage. Thank you for your understanding and if you wish to help us recover please get in touch. There is lots to do.

17.01.2022 The uniforms for the mounted police for the re-enactment of the capture of the Clarkes were made by Emma Hillier of Camden. Last Friday she came to Braidwood museum to fit the tunics. It is unlikely the troopers of the 1860s were supplied made to measure tunics as well fitting as these. The detail Emma has incorporated is outstanding. The numbers on the collars are the actual numbers of the police involved, adding to the detail of authenticity of the re-enactment. The uniform...ed troopers will make a spectacular entrance when they canter into the final scenes of the re-enactment at Braidwood Showground on 29th April. 15.01.2022 Recognise any of Braidwood's treasures ?

15.01.2022 Braidwood & district historical society annual dinner at the national theatre tonight. It's been a big year for the society with 200 members and lots of upgrades to the museum and records management.

13.01.2022 Some of Braidwood's treasures have been a part of this exhibition and now they are travelling back to China. https://theminer.net.au/m-a-d-e-to-make-its-international-/

13.01.2022 Part of the problem with a museum run entirely by volunteers is that sometimes it takes longer to do the things we want to do. We have been tardy in telling you that a few months ago we received a loan of two service medals that were awarded to Jeremiah Linde Jones for his service to the Royal Navy. Jeremiah received a land grant in the Braidwood district and we are lucky enough to already have his dress uniform and his sword. The medals that now form part of the display are the Navy General Service Medal with Algeria Clasp and the Burma Medal with AVA clasp. We are very grateful for the generosity of the Jones family and in particularly Patrick Jones who also presented us with a magnificent book he compiled about his ancestor's life. Patrick's book is now part of the museum's extraordinary Archives.

11.01.2022 Braidwood always seems to be in the news https://www.theguardian.com//anzac-day-a-small-australian-

10.01.2022 These BCS students came and helped out at your museum last Thursday. They did a fabulous job and we thank them for their efforts.

09.01.2022 Braidwood's very significant Chinese collection is now in Melbourne. https://museumvictoria.com.au/immigrat//chinese-fortunes/

09.01.2022 The re-enactment of the capture of the Clarkes is the biggest thing in Braidwood since the capture of the Clarkes. Hope to see you there.

09.01.2022 Many people will agree that the biggest star of the Clarke re-enactment was the wonderful slab hut. Many volunteers worked hard to create it but one of the key people involved was local builder Mark Lionet who is now taking orders. Call him on 0477 528 173 and he will work with you to build a unique slab building to suit whatever purpose you have in mind. Thank you Mark for your extraordinary efforts. The hut was stunning. We hope we see lots more popping up around the district.

08.01.2022 In 1973, in the final report of the Committee of Inquiry into the National Estate, Justice R.M. Hope spoke of the beauty of the light as it strikes the colonnade of the GPO and asked "where on a balance sheet an accountant might record such things." http://www.smh.com.au//gpo-endgame-sale-of-most-loved-buil

06.01.2022 Some great work going on at Braidwood Museum!

01.01.2022 Museums enrich our lives and contribute to strong and resilient communities. They contribute to a fair and just society by educating, by protecting our heritage as well as interpreting and telling the commonality of our stories. Museums in turn are enriched by the skills, creativity and energy of their public. Braidwood & District Historical Society has recently restructured its volunteer management systems and are seeking people to fill a number of important positions. We ar...e holding a series of open days for Friends of the Museum to launch this initiative. Join us at the museum on the first Friday of each month to help out and learn about the many opportunities there are to contribute. Your first opportunity will be 8th December at 11am. Just turn up and we will have the kettle on. Some of the positions are major ongoing undertakings and management roles whilst others are simple small tasks you can undertake at your own pace. We have a wide variety of specific jobs available in our Exhibitions Department, Archives and Research, Collection Conservation as well as roles in Visitor Services and Events. Through the museum, volunteers can undertake specialist training courses and internships. Some of our current volunteers have recently undertaken placements at the State Records Office and the Australian Museum. You will be working with an active and supportive committee as we expand our operations. We aspire to make Braidwood Museum the best small museum in Australia because we are the best small community. We have a wonderful story to share. If you want to help preserve and share our extraordinary history and resources, then we invite you to become an active volunteer. Come along one Friday and find out more. For the next few weeks we are lucky enough to have a senior conservator from the National Museum of Australia helping us We took delivery of a freezer a few days ago and he can show us how to use it to help control pest infestations in the collection. Here's some of the opportunities we hope volunteers will undertake.
