25.01.2022 Dear Queanbeyan-Palerang Regional Council, please watch this video to help understand why our community fought so hard to create an inclusive CBD Masterplan. Show us you care about Braidwood's young people by putting the "Skate Elements" back into the Ryrie Park Masterplan. Perhaps a call to Mayor John Carey from the City of Vincent might be useful? 21.01.2022 Fantastic turnout at yesterday's #Community workshops with Convic!!! Some great ideas flowing around, this park can't be built fast enough! #Rad #skate session during the afternoon as well, these kids already have so much talent, just imagine how their skills will develop when we have a proper facility!!!

20.01.2022 Very disappointed to hear that Queanbeyan-Palerang Regional Council will be putting the Braidwood CBD masterplan out for public comment WITHOUT the Skate Elemen...ts as part of it! The Braidwood Outsiders are responsible for getting this entire project off the ground, pitching it to current Mayor Tim Overall during his administration term. (See attached letter) Providing a safe place for our young skaters in the heart of our community was an integral part of the multigenerational play space planned for Ryrie Park north. Mr Overall even offered advice on how to best go about this, meeting with us in Braidwood and walking over the sites back in 2016. Just last week we spoke to leading Skatepark developer Convic, who agreed all the alternate locations put forward by council were not suitable for a skatepark and agreed that Ryrie Park is the clearly the best location for such a facility in Braidwood. They also commented that a large scale facility that council have suddenly started championing, will likely cost in excess of 1 million dollars, there is no funding for such a project and in reality, I don’t see it happening in our small village. How long will our kids have to wait, we've been pushing for a skate space for more than 4 years! It's disappointing that as administrator, he fully supported these plans during the development stage, only to backflip after a small minority of influential locals got into his ear. The community of Braidwood has no voice on this new council, we feel utterly powerless and it's the same old fogeys working behind the scenes that are dictating the direction our town is developing in. Anyhow, check the attached photos of how I filled out the current survey, live now on the Your Voice website but closing tomorrow: https://yourvoice.qprc.nsw.gov.au I urge others to do the same and send a clear message to QPRC council that the SKATE ELEMENTS must be put back into the Masterplan! The current consultation on location is a farce, this council doesn't care what our community has to say, nor it's own staff, professional skatepark developers or the Heritage Architects that were charged with creating this Masterplan. It's Tim's (and the ruling Bloc's) way or the highway... This isn't a functioning democracy, this is a dictatorship... Both the former Palerang and Queanbeyan council's have made massive mistakes developing skateparks in the past, that has led to negative outcomes for their communities, and led to further costs burdened on ratepayers like the installation of security cameras at these sites etc. They are determined to make the same mistakes all over again here in Braidwood.... It just beggars belief..... They must be held to account!!!! See more

17.01.2022 There are easily as many female skaters in Braidwood as male, maybe more! We love seeing you guys up and down our main street and the style you bring to our quiet little country town... One of our local groms could easily be representing Australia at the Olympics one day!!! Keep shredding....

17.01.2022 With so much supporting documentation calling for the inclusion of skate elements as part of Braidwood's CBD upgrade, it's amazing that Queanbeyan-Palerang Regional Council can still find reasons not to include it? A sad marginalisation of our local youth by a conservative and backwards thinking council, the NSW ombudsman looks like the last port of call for skate supporters....

16.01.2022 Braidwood community meeting tonight at the old library, several of our councillors to be in attendance, would love to see some skatepark supporters there!!!

14.01.2022 A bit of rain couldn't dampen the spirits of Braidwood's young skaters today, who were overjoyed to learn that Queanbeyan-Palerang Regional Council have enlisted skatepark heavyweights Convic to design and build a new facility here in town!!!!! Yeeeeooooiwwwwwzaaaa!!!!!

11.01.2022 The young skaters of Braidwood making use of some smooth asphalt, the other place they frequent is under a bridge at the end of town, basically in a sewer! The recent actions of Queanbeyan-Palerang Regional Council, to remove the skate elements from our CBD masterplan is putting our youth directly into harms way, with no timeframe for when Braidwood will ever get a skate facility, the current situation is a ticking time bomb... Who will take responsibility when someone's child is injured on our roads? These kids have nowhere else to go...

10.01.2022 Queanbeyan-Palerang Regional Council's handling of the Ryrie Park Masterplan is a great example of how to develop a space that is NOT INCLUSIVE. Our local skaters are feeling unwanted and uncared for in our community. With the removal of the "Skate Elements" the designers Phillips-Marler have conceded that the engagement for our youth drops off at around age 12, our teenagers are apparently unwelcome in the heart of our community? So much for developing a "Multigenerational Playspace!" Hopefully this kind of bullying and marginalisation will be avoided with the creation of these new guidelines. Please get on board and have your say..... #EveryoneCanPlayInNSW #Bullying #Inclusion #PersonalPolitics #Integrity

10.01.2022 Wow, 11 year old Rayssa Leal has some serious skills!!! Did you know that skates sports have higher ratios of female participants than any other sport! Making up around 40% of skaters under 25.... Keep shredding ladies! :) xoxo

10.01.2022 THE 7 CRITICAL MISTAKES to avoid when delivering a skatepark or youth inclusive space.

08.01.2022 The journey to develop a #skatepark here in #Braidwood has been a long and arduous one... To put it into perspective, this photo was taken back in 2014, when we were first promised a skatepark by the then Palerang council. All these kids have grown up in a town that didn't support their passion, @big___zeek aka Zac pictured on the right is now 18 and doing an Auto Electricion's #apprenticeship in #Queanbeyan. He's still a passionate #skater, but his cheeks aren't quite as p...udgy and cute though! Lol... Hopefully he can get back from work in time to attend the #Community workshop with @convicskateparks this afternoon at the old library? Although he must be forgiven for thinking it's not really going to happen, again... His expectations are being kept understandably low but our fingers are crossed it will be a case of #ThirdTimeLucky! . . . . . . . . #SkateboardingIsNotACrime #SkateOrDie #Skateboarding #Skaters #SK8 #braidwoodcommunityskatepark #QPRC See more

06.01.2022 Local young #skaters had all but given up hope that we would ever actually get a proper #skatepark here in #Braidwood! Their answer was to build their own little #DIY (do it yourself) in a drain at the end of town, funded and built completely by themselves!!! Complete with some sweet #streetart and even their own set of rules! I wonder if there are any jobs going @convicskateparks? These kids have a strong work ethic! . . . .... . . . . . . . #diyskatespot #skatediy #diyskate #groms #skateboarding #SkateOrDie #Convic #MonkeyMagic #TheHarderTheyCome #sprayart #stencil #doityourself #JimmyCliff #ThirdTimeLucky #BeRespectful #DontBreakShit #helmet #KneePads #NoLitter See more

05.01.2022 Meet local #SkateRat #JimiMagnus!!! He's pretty stoked with his new Folklore Skateboards deck and Independent Trucks/ Thrasher trucks he picked up at Trilogy Skateboards!!! He's mad crazy excited about a #Skatepark being built here in Braidwood, and looking forward to the design workshop with Convic this Tuesday!!! 04.01.2022 Fantastic show of support from "Braidwood Curtilage Heritage Advisory Committee" in this report submitted to Queanbeyan-Palerang Regional Council. A big thankyou from Braidwood's young skaters, it means a lot to our local youth....

03.01.2022 Great doc on skateparks, thanks to Dave Parsons for the share! If Braidwood is ever going to have a skatepark, we might just have to build it ourselves!

01.01.2022 What an inspiring young human Poppy Olsen is! :) She talks about things like "#decriminalising" the image of #skateboarding using #art, referencing her home bowl right on Australia's iconic #BondiBeach, designed to mimic a local #indigenous rock carving. She mentions the emerging trend of installing skateable sculptures in the public domain, that not only helps activate the space for young people, but creates a sense ownership and validation in the #community. She challenge...s public perception of how these spaces look and what they actually do for our #Youth. I don't agree that the #inclusion of #SkateElements in the planned #YouthPrecinct as part of the #RyriePark upgrades will undermine the entrance of our #historic town, I think it can add to #Braidwood's story and show everyone just how much we value our #YoungPeople! #QPRC #Queanbeyan #Palerang See more
