12.01.2022 This paper (just off the press) confirms the use of partial-field OPK, this time from virtual reality goggle (rather than a full field OPK from a projector) to be as effective in reducing symptoms in MdDS https://www.frontiersin.org/articles//fneur.2020.00814/full

11.01.2022 A nice chat with a good friend from the US, Dr Michael Bagnell

10.01.2022 New publication. In layman terms, exercises that have been given for decades to help people with peripheral vestibular disorders like neuritis and labyrinthitis, namely 'look at your thumb whilst turning your head' (called VORx1) were shown to be ineffective in objectively improving the VOR gain (function). The other commonly prescribed exercise 'look at your thumb, whilst turning your head and thumb in the opposite direction' (called VORx2), were shown to be moderately effec...tive, although the the ability to perform the task as intended was not seen. Current vestibular rehabilitation exercises, despite known to help people feel better and have beer balance, are are far less effective in improving objective vestibular function that initially thought. Conclusions Manual 2 (variable demand) training in healthy controls resulted in significant, but two-thirds less, adaptation than computer-controlled 2 (nonvariable demand) training observed in a prior study, suggesting that increased training demand variability results in reduced VOR adaptation. In contrast, one session of manual 2 training in patients with isolated UVH did not result in significant sinusoidal VOR adaptation, possibly because of significantly greater variability in training gain demand compared to controls, which may improve (decrease) with repeated training. The data also suggest that 1 gaze-stabilizing training is a weak stimulus for VOR adaptation. https://link.springer.com/article/10.1007/s10162-020-00775-y

04.01.2022 Over the last few weeks, I’ve facilitated workshops covering Active Listening, Relationship Equity and Proactivity. A common question I get asked is How can on...e be more proactive? The answer lies within the individual’s ability to choose you see, to not choose means handing over responsibility to another object to choose because one is not response-able The emotions experienced in moments of impulsivity produce a reaction...reactive behaviour, not a response which is proactive. You have the freedom to choose to create space between stimulus and response. How can one create this space to mitigate a reaction? Catch yourself by bringing awareness to the physiological changes in the body which are produced as a result of emotions (yes, emotions produce energetic physiological shifts! Hello flushed cheeks, racing heart, breath holding and butterflies in the tummy!). Speak to an impartial person as a soundboard Go for a walk to break the emotional state Engage in box breathing to stimulate the parasympathetic nervous system ie, stimulate the Rest and Digest Response and mute the Fight or Flight. (Box breathing is one of my faves. Slowly inhale for 4 counts, hold for 4, exhale for 4, hold for 4, repeat) #breathwork #boxbreathing #nlp #restanddigest #proactive #brainhealthcoach #rewireyourbrain

01.01.2022 The latest paper written by clinic director Dr Carlo Rinaudo as part of his PhD thesis. In short, current methods for improving vision stability in people with a vestibular hypofunction disorder (like neuritis and labyrinthitis) fail to actually improve vestibular function (vestibulo-ocular reflex - VOR). We showed a novel method to boost VOR function, improve balance, walking and symptoms in a randomised and controlled 1 week study. We expect this to challenge current vesti...bular rehabilitation therapies. The 2 year RCT paper is coming soon ;) https://journals.lww.com//Once_Daily_Incremental_Vestibula
