24.01.2022 BRAIN INJURY SA COVID UPDATE We understand that due to the recent cluster outbreak of COVID-19 in South Australia that some people may be concerned about their services and want to know what BISA is doing to manage participant safety. The following is a summary of this at this time and we are monitoring the situation for any further action as needed.... * We are still seeing participants at their usual place of service delivery. * If you are showing any symptoms of a dry cough, sore throat, fever, difficulty breathing or flu type symptoms, please let us know and we can rearrange your appointment and do advise that you obtain a COVID test. * Participants will receive a phone call from us prior to any arranged appointment to check that you are able to travel and answer some pre-appointment questions. * If you would like to change your appointment from face to face to telehealth, that can be arranged at your preference. * We are arranging for staff to work out of their one main site of service delivery. This might mean a limited number of appointments require a change of time, therapist or mode of delivery but we will let you know if this is the case so you can decide what feels best for you. * We will maintain vigilance on any risks to our participants in the services they receive and talk through any concerns with you. Don't hesitate to touch base with us should you have any concerns. We wish you all well. Stay safe.

Telehealth has meant we can serve more people around the state than ever, we hosted our first ever online Brain Injury Awareness Week launch - creating an event that is still available for people to watch via... YouTube and we were reminded more than ever of the importance of community - something we are very lucky to have at Brain Injury SA. We're taking a little rest over Christmas and our office will be closed from 4.45pm Wednesday 23rd December and will re-open January 11th. See you back for another big year in 2021 then! Be safe and well. #merrychristmas #braininjurysa : Dr Charlie Teo giving the keynote address at our live streamed Brain Injury Awareness Week event in August.

10.01.2022 The most hectic time of year can also be the hottest! In fact just 12 months ago, bushfire devastated Australia - demonstrating just how hot it can get! Overheating quickly is a real challenge of life with ABI. Drinking plenty of water and avoiding the hottest part of the day can help (thats right, stay inside at these times!). It's very important to stay hydrated! Remember SA Health will often have tips on staying healthy in the heat through summer so be sure to check in... with their page too. #braininjurysa

10.01.2022 Each year at the official Brain Injury Awareness Week Launch we have the pleasure of announcing the winners of the Brain Injury SA Awards. As always it was a difficult decision as the nominees were of an excellent standard. Each person nominated should feel incredibly proud of their commitment to embracing life and our ABI community. **Award for Most Inspiring Individual**... The Most Inspiring Individual Award recognises an extraordinary person who, despite facing many challenges, has had some truly inspirational achievements. Naomi Tree Slavoljub Blazevic Holly Scott Bernie Viklund Samuel J Button Nicola Bray Michele Saint-Yves Melanie Koerber Ella Saunders Brett Corey Peter Dempsey And congratulations to our 2020 winner Peter Dempsey ! Peter sustained a stroke when he was four years old, limiting his ability to move and communicate. He experienced a number of challenges growing up including managing the impacts of his stroke while also dealing with the impact of bullying. Peter turned these experiencing into positives and now works as a motivational speaker, mentor to people with disability wishing to explore entrepreneurship as a pathway to self-employment and active Board member with Stroke SA. More recently he has been working on the development of an APP for people with Brain Injury to use in recording and utilising personal experiences to support recovery and manage symptoms. Its probably fair to say that Peter sees barriers as something to be knocked over in a quest for more. He lives a life that pursues all possibilities, whilst never forgetting that what he can do for others is as important as what he can do for himself. : Catherine Leo Photography #BIAW2020 #braininjurysa #braininjuryawareness

10.01.2022 'The parts of the brain that are responsible for organisation are easily affected by injuries. Most people with an ABI will initially find some difficulty with prioritising, sequencing, organising, starting, and completing tasks. How long these problems will last, and how much difficulty they cause, will depend on the severity and location of the injuries.'
