12.01.2022 Tony's Tips #3 Switch off your engine Many newer cars automatically turn off when stationary in neutral. If yours doesn’t, turn off your engine when you’ve stopped for a minute or so to save fuel.... Higher gear Driving at lower revs reduces fuel consumption so change up a gear at around 2,000 RPM. Drive smoothly Assess the road ahead as much as possible to avoid unnecessary braking and acceleration, which increases the amount of fuel you use. Slow down Your fuel costs will increase the faster you drive so keep speeds reasonable. Windows vs air conditioning If you are traveling at low speed opening the windows is more efficient. If traveling at 100Kms per hour or above, closing the windows and using the air con will save you more. Tyre pressures Under-inflated tyres increase your fuel consumption and can be dangerous on the road so check them once a month and before long journeys. Roof racks/boxes Having these attached to your car when they’re not being used will increase drag and increase your fuel costs. Lighten your load Remove excess items from your car before traveling to reduce weight. Please, Don't forget to Like and share our page, and if your having any motoring issues call Tony on 0428 495 316

11.01.2022 Tony's Tips # When to repair or replace your windshield The windshield of your car ensures your safety while driving, but it is also prone to chips and cracks. So what should you do when it’s on the receiving end of a rock?... Repairing a small windshield chip Repairing windshield chips can stop cracks from spreading and avoid the high cost of replacing the windshield. Prices vary from shop to shop, but a chip repair costs around $50 on average. If the chip can be repaired, it’s best to do the repair as soon as possible. Your first step is to get an estimate from a glass repair shop. Next, call your insurance company to see if the repair is covered under your insurance policy. When you take your vehicle to a glass repair shop or, in many cases, the auto glass company will come to your home or office the repair worker will fill most of the chip. This process is relatively simple, and most chips can be repaired in half an hour or less. It may still leave a visible flaw, but it will be much less noticeable. Moreover, the repair provides a strong bond that prevents further cracks.

06.01.2022 Tonys Tips #1 Preventive Maintenance What are the consequences of postponing maintenance? ... Many parts on your vehicle are interrelated. Ignoring maintenance can lead to trouble: specific parts or an entire system -- can fail. Neglecting even simple routine maintenance, like changing the oil or checking the coolant, can lead to poor fuel economy, unreliability, or costly breakdowns. It also may invalidate your warranty
04.01.2022 Tony's Tips #4 Does Brake Fluid Need to Be Changed? Brake fluid is as vital to stopping a vehicle as engine oil is to keeping it going, but it doesn't get as much attention as it deserves. The recommended intervals for changing brake fluid are all over the board depending on the manufacturer, from as often as every two years to never.... Why? Brake fluid lives in a sealed system and can survive for years, but moisture from the surrounding air can work its way in through hoses and other parts of the brake system. Water in the brake lines lowers the boiling point of the fluid, so stopping ability can diminish in hard stops as heat in the system increases. In addition, over time the moisture can cause internal corrosion in the brake lines, calipers, the master cylinder and other components. For any advice on your Brakes! 02.01.2022 Tony's Tips #2 Basic car checks, how to keep your car on the road with a few simple maintenance checks that can work wonders Give your car a thorough check every few weeks and you may spot problems before they cause a breakdown. ... There are 6 key areas to keep on top of: fuel, lights, oil, water, electrics and rubber. When it comes to remembering them, just think: FLOWER Fuel Don’t wait until your fuel light comes on, especially if you’re in an unfamiliar place. It may sound obvious but, if you’re running low on fuel and you see a petrol station, top up. Lights Give all your exterior lights a decent clean every few weeks, making sure to check for blown bulbs and cracks in the lenses. Basic checks Oil Cars can get through up to a litre of oil every 1,000 miles, so it pays to check your oil level regularly (check your handbook if you’re not sure how to). Don’t wait for the red oil pressure warning light to come on your engine might already be damaged by then. Water Overheating causes a lot of breakdowns, especially in hotter weather, so check your coolant level every couple of weeks If the level always seems low, check for leaks. It’s always a good idea to keep your windscreen washer fluid topped up, too. Electrics Battery problems are the number one cause of breakdowns, at any time of year. So if your battery’s getting a bit old and tired, renew it before it lets you down. You should also make sure that your radiator’s electric cooling fan starts running when the engine gets hot. You can check this by running the engine with the car stationary, or ask Tony to have a look for you. Rubber If your tyres aren’t inflated properly, you could be putting yourself at serious risk. They’ll also wear out faster and can lead to wasted fuel. If you’ve got a full load on board you’ll need to increase your tyre pressures your handbook will tell you the right levels. Again, if your unsure? Give, Tony at Brakerite a call on 0428 495 316 . ( Please dont forget to LIKE and SHARE this Page)
