08.01.2022 Meet Gemma Barker from Bramwell Partners BNI Gateway's expert HR Consultant. Gemma and the team at Bramwell Partners understand the challenges and opportunit...ies that come with managing a small team. They have a comprehensive range of HR and compliance services including: Workplace Health and Safety Quality Management Systems HR Support & Consulting Workplace Compliance ISO9001 Training During her feature presentation, Gemma explained the importance of businesses having professionally prepared Employment Agreements and documenting employee performance. Contracts will give the business security with clearly defined obligations and commitments in all aspects of terms of employment. It is also important for an employer to have protection for their business clientele and intellectual property. Performance documentation will help protect the business should an employee ever file a claim or sue the business for unfair dismissal. Gemma shared a couple of horror stories of businesses who did not have their employment agreements in order. One business had the incorrect reference to Long Services Leave calculation which cost them $50,000. The other business had no specific reference to Garden Leave which resulted in losing 3 clients valued at $150,000. She also shared a story about an employer who did not document communications regarding employee performance. The employer terminated an employee for underperformance but the employee took it to Fair Work for unfair dismissal and also defamed the business on social media. As a result, it cost the the business $20,000 in employee pay, HR fees, legal fees, recruitment fee for a replacement and serious image to the business's reputation. Protect your business. Call Gemma Barker on 07 3630 5695 for a complimentary consultation.

02.01.2022 Internal Audits... Does this phrase send a shiver down your spine?? No need to be intimidated - in the simplest of terms it is just getting someone with fresh eyes to look at: Your Business, Your Processes and Your Systems... Are your teams following the actual documented procedures or have they deviated? It may be that the documented process is no longer the ‘best way’ and the documentation simply needs to be bought up to date to reflect changes. Internal Audits are about protecting a business from the getting hit by a bus syndrome. If your key people get hit by a bus (or leave) tomorrow is there enough information to ensure that other members of your workforce know how to keep the business moving. It’s not a ‘big company’ thing every business whatever its size should have documented processes and procedures to ensure its longevity!
