17.01.2022 As of this week I’m now doing an 8 week garden maintenance program which I offer to customers once the installation has been carried out. It’s like an extra pair of horticultural hands nurturing & monitoring these babies. I try to get the customer to be involved along the way, with tips and regimes of plants after the installation. I found that most of my customers are really keen to be involved with this as they appreciate you assisting them like a handover but becoming enthusiastic and appreciating their new garden. It’s a good opportunity for me to see it acclimatise & mature. Of course you may have a mishap with 1 or 2 that have gone to the Plant Gods. However, you do get a kick when it’s coming together. So Haopy Gardening everyone.

16.01.2022 What does reconciliation mean? The actual word is a noun - an act of reconciling as when former enemies agree to an amicable truce. The state of being reconciled as when someone becomes resigned to something not desired. The process of making consistent or compatible. As in the context of accounting its the process of ensuring that two sets of records (usually the balances of two accounts) are in agreement. ... So that's it in a nutshell so to speak. National Reconciliation Week is a time when all of us in Australia that can or wish to learn about shared histories, cultures and other achievements that have slowly taken place over the past few decades. Areas to explore how each of us as a community could make a contribution to achieving reconciliation towards the first peoples of this wonderful country of Australia. This is a chance for us as individuals or groups to strive towards goals of building a relationship between Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples and other Australians to make a fair and equal society. We are slowly getting there but still a long way to go. If each of us could pave the way to educate ourselves by taking action and fight racism in its many forms. My education during primary school and beyond so very limited as the resources that where provided only dealt with mainly about explorers of our oceans surrounding our shores to the First Settlement in NSW. Subjects like Social Sciences and the like where only brushed over about the first peoples of this land. I remember doing projects on how they hunted and gathered. What tools and weapons the Aboriginals used to source their food. Nothing at all really unless I was not paying attention about their wonderful art, culture, so many languages, storytelling, how they cared for the land. I'm normally a quiet person but I do feel strongly and deeply of what the word 'reconciliation means' and how not just me but all of us can and one day will embrace National Reconciliation Week further. thanks all Natalie

08.01.2022 Finalised new daybed for our customer in Bardon. Letting it bleed out for a while. Once its dried out a bit more it will have a silver patina to it. Because of its significant versatility and durability you will find Spotted Gum used in a wide variety of applications. From building and construction, including structural components, flooring, cladding, and decking, right through to furniture (indoor and outdoor), landscaping, boat building, poles, beams, the list goes on. ...Widely used for power poles, bridge timbers and general construction, Spotted Gum is one of the most widely available recycled timbers in Australia today. In the future this species will become more readily available from Australian hardwood plantations as a result of its growing popularity.

03.01.2022 World Bee Day The main purpose of the events is to spread awareness of the significance of bees and other pollinators for our survival. We must realise that simply proclaiming World Bee Day does not do much for bees and other pollinators; the main work aiming towards their preservation still needs to be undertaken and World Bee Day is an excellent opportunity in this regard. Beekeepers and nature conservationists would like to ask everybody to help improve the conditions for ...bees, thus improving conditions for the survival of people. No major steps are needed; what counts is each and every action that facilitates the existence of bees. What can we do? Here are a few some practical suggestions to help bees survive. Bee-attracting plants Grow bee attracting plants, both in or around your veggie garden and elsewhere such as on the nature strip. Bees seem to particularly be attracted to purple and blue flowers such as salvias, lavender and rosemary. They will also enjoy calendulas, cosmos and daisies. Stop using products that contain substances harmful to bees. One of the most harmful categories of chemicals for bees, and responsible for much of the die-off of bee colonies is the neonicotinoid family. These chemicals are found in many garden products, and Bunnings has recently removed such products from their stores. Because we apply organic methods, we probably havent used such products, but many cat and dog flea prevention treatments contain neonicotinoids check the label for a chemical called Imidacloprid, and look for an alternative product there are some out there. Happy Bee Day all!
