24.01.2022 As 2020 draws to a close, I'm turning my thoughts to the fresh, new year. Instead of setting myself up for failure with a raft of resolutions, my preferred New Year approach is to have a Word of the Year. This is a sort of anchor to keep me focused on what is important for me across the year. ... Want to join me with your own Word of the Year? I'll unveil my word in the coming days, but in the meantime, here's a little inspiration for your potential Word of 2021: - Curious - Organised - Creative - Adventurous - Brave - Free - Energised - Happy - Balanced - Communicative - Confident - Expansive - Abundant - Joyful - Calm - Inspired - Focused - Becoming - Grateful - Consistent - Leader - Purposeful - Wise - Conscious - Grounded - Imaginative - Hopeful - Delighted - Composed - Charismatic So... over to you for a little fun! How do you want to FEEL in 2021?

21.01.2022 "I just need some time alone." I've found myself speaking these words far too often lately. I adore my family. Truly! But for the past year, we've all been at home together and it's time for me to take some time out. So this weekend, I'll be taking myself off for a few solo walks on the beach. I may also enjoy an early night with a good book. I'm also planning a solo getaway a little later in the year - three or four luxuriant days all to myself!... It's not about wanting to get away. Nor is it a question of being an introvert or an extrovert. It's all about wanting to reconnect with myself, which science tells me is a very good thing. Here are just some of the benefits of a little time alone: 1. Solitude can spark creativity Being alone with your thoughts gives your brain a chance to meander and wander. Who knows where it might lead!? 2. Find your own voice Without the pressures of outside influences, it's far easier to get to the truth of things as they are for you. 3. Wellbeing boost People who value solitude tend to be better at acknowledging their own needs and desires. They are less likely to expend all their energy on trying to please others. And this is a VERY good thing for our wellbeing! 4. Recharge An interesting study I read recently showed that most of the activities people describe as restful are things done solo. Perhaps there's a reason for that. 5. Emotional intelligence They key to emotional intelligence is self-awareness. And the best way to become self aware is to spend time alone, reflecting. How will you carve out a little time alone this weekend? #selfcare #alonetime #women

18.01.2022 If it feels too much, it's too much. I wish I'd listened to that mantra much earlier! Instead, I chose to ignore the warning signs, allowing overwhelm to creep in and, ultimately, to dominate my life. But I do know for a fact that I'm not alone in this regard.... So how does overwhelm take hold? 1. Saying 'yes' to everything. If you're anything like the old me, saying 'no' can feel uncomfortable or wrong. But the consequences of saying 'yes' are often frustration, resentment and overwhelm. 2. Perfectionism For many high-performing women, anything less than perfect is not good enough. But perfectionism can be crippling and it can mean tasks pile up and up... 3. Procrastination Procrastination can be an outcome of perfectionism. But most often it's because of fear - fear of failure, of not being good enough. 4. Wanting to be in control Do you struggle to delegate to others or ask for help? If so, I imagine you have a 'to do' list longer than your arm! 5. Unclear life goals When you're unsure about what you want from life, it's easy to say yes to the wrong things. It's easy to just meander along collecting tasks and jobs along the way. Knowing what you want provides a clear framework for forward momentum. If you struggle with any of these things, join me and a small group of like-minded women in Port Fairy, Victoria, on Friday 7 May for the Overcoming Overwhelm Masterclass.
