22.01.2022 On Friday Fnight there was two triples games and a pairs game. The trio of Hans Baas, Lyn Storrie and Doug Kiehne shot out of the blocks and took a commanding lead only for the trio of Damian Morello, Rob Jorgensen, and Gary Pearce to slowly but surely, reel them in and then finish off with the win. The trio of Baylee Brady, Con Sexton and Norm Storrie took out their contest with Dave Sheehan, Jo Griggs, and Ray Panecassio in a match where the lead swapped teams every few end...s. In the pairs, Simon and Chris Griggs combined to produce a commanding performance in their defeat of Mark Ellwood and Joe Yipanazar. This coming Friday night, the 25th of September, Burdekin Skips are putting on a guaranteed night of good times playing bowls. Nominate a team or just put your name in and the Club will find a team for you by calling Rob on 0419655005 or Gary on 0488214222. The Dunn cup team has been selected to contest this premier event at Suburban Club in Townsville over the Queens, Birthday weekend. The side is Gary Pearce, Steve Nellestein, Peter Jorgensen and Rino Lazzarin. On Sunday, two Club triples competition matches were contested. Chris Pearce, Joe Yipanazar, and Len Feeney had the measure of Con Sexton, Ken Ferguson and Norm Storrie and finished with a good victory. In the other match the trio of Norm Higgenbotham, Rino Lazzarin and Richie Mau took out a nail-biting affair which went down to the wire, over the gallant trio of Mick McCloskey, Alan Garioch and Peter Jorgensen. Some very strategic bowling by Norm Higgenbotham proved to be the difference in this contest. In the social triples contest the trio of Hugh Montgomery, Vince Beitia and Merv Wilshere rode their luck to take out the contest against Peter Henderson, Ray Panecassio, and Nev Dickinson. The pairs contests resulted in Jamie Woods and Leo Kenny having the wood over Doug Kiehne and Steve Nellestein and Glen Woodford and Gary Pearce had the wood over Gary Nosworthy and Doug Robins. Next Sunday, thanks to Julies Pharmacy, we will be having a mixed triples afternoon with names in by 1:00pm for a 1:30pm start. Call Gary on 0488214222 or the club on 0456727061 close to the times above. All clubs are welcome. See more

18.01.2022 Brandon Bowls Club WE 18/10/2020 Newsletter. The Brandon Bowls Club A grade pairs competition was decided on Sunday. The new A Pairs champions are Steve Nellestein and Tony Bayliss. They put on a Melbourne Storm like display jumping out to a lead and applying constant pressure to their opponents Rino Lazzarin and Ray Panecassio. In the B pairs semi-final Wayne Coonan and Vince Beitia maintained their focus all match to just pip the duo of Doug Kiehne and Leo Kenny. In the clu...b triples contest Tony Bayliss, Steve Nellestein and Wayne Coonan fought out a win over the trio of Glen Woodford, Jamie Woods and Gary Pearce. This match was worthy of a final with the result not reflective of the contest. Tony’s team were too good, pouncing on every opportunity as it presented itself. On Friday night there were two triples, and a pairs game. The trio of Merv Wilshere, Lyn Storrie, and Jamie Woods were no match for the men on a mission in Hans Baas, Ross McLaughlin and Ray Panecassio. The trio of Chris Griggs, Doug Kiehne and Simon Griggswere were down by one going into the last end. The trio of Norm Storrie, Rob Jorgensen and Rino Lazzarin were holding shot. Simon had the last bowl which resulted in a two shot win on the last end to take out the match. Nutrien Ag Solutions will be hosting a night of fun with bowls thrown in on Friday 23rd October. Names to be in by 6:30pm for a 7:00pm start. Call Rob on 0419655005, or Gary on 0488214222 or the Club on 0456727061 To get in the spirit of walktober where we are all to promote walking as a health benefit the club put on 5 pairs games to increase the amount of walking. In game 1, Ken Ferguson and Doug Robins were good enough to defeat Chris Griggs and Len Feeney in a close contest. In game 2 Hans Baas and Peter Henderson had too much stamina for Norm Storrie and Simon Griggs taking out their match comfortably at the end. Game 3 saw Dave Sheehan and Gary Pearce combine in a show of tight consistent bowling to defeat the errant duo of Merv Wilshere and Richard Mau. Game 4 was a tussle of epic proportions, with Nev Dickinson and Peter Jorgensen too good at the end to defeat the valiant challenge of Mick McCloskey and Kev Collins. Game 5 went the way of the dynamic duo of Jamie Woods and Joe Yipanazer over the virtuous duo of Gary Nosworthy and Helen Collins. Next Sunday, thanks to Julies Pharmacy, we will be having a mixed triples afternoon with names in by 1:00pm for a 1:30pm start. Call Gary on 0488214222 or the club on 0456727061 close to the times above. All clubs are welcome. See more

16.01.2022 Brandon Bowls 01112020 What a game! Gary Nosworthy and Mick McCloskey had a narrow win over Ross McLaughlin and Glen Woodford in an epic encounter that had everything. The lead seesawed throughout the contest, the skips at different times were looking more nervous than a turkey on Thanksgiving Eve, then a lucky shot would boost them, and they were back in the contest. After winning the B Pairs semi final Gary and Mick will face Vince Beitia and Wayne Coonan in the B pairs fin...al on Sunday at 1:30pm In the club triples on Sunday Wayne Coonan put in a super consistent exhibition of lead bowls to set up the win for his teammates, Steve Nellestein and Tony Bayliss over the trio of Peter Henderson, Hugh Montgomery and Merv Wilshere. In the other triples championship match the trio of Simon Griggs, Kev Collinson, and Chris Griggs shot out to what looked like an insurmountable lead at the halfway mark, only for Ray Panecassio to put the game back on track for his team mates Vince Beitia and Leo Kenny and drive home a positive winning edge that cut through with a win on the last end. In other matches on Sunday the pair of Dave Sheehan and Gary Nosworthy decided that Sunday was the day they would perform, setting up a win over Con Sexton and Doug Robins. Nev Dickinson and Len Feeney put in a performance full of poise and finesse, reminiscent of a ballet, to defeat Jamie Woods and Alan Garioch. Norm Storrie and Joe Yipinazar combined to defeat Doug Kiehne and Mick McCloskey in a dominant display. Matches will be on again on Friday night with names in by 6:00pm for a 6:30pm start and on Sunday with names in by 1:00pm for a 1:30pm start.

14.01.2022 Brandon Bowls 27092020 Brandon Bowls Club was the place to be, on Friday night, if you were looking to unwind and have fun playing bowls. Burdekin Skips hosted a great night with plenty of bowlers having a good time. The team of Leonie Floridus, Lyn Storrie and Joe Yipanazar received first prize courtesy of some high scoring end wins. The team of Rob DiGugliemo, Steve Poli, and Paolo Mio took out second place in a tight tussle. Paula Langdon, Nadia Lazzarin, Ray Panecassio, a...nd Rino Lazzarin were the winners of the Bradman’s prize. On Saturday the ‘A’ grade pairs match between the duo of Ray Panecassio and Rino Lazzarin and the duo of Peter Jorgensen and Joe Yipanazar resulted in a win for Ray and Rino which sees them advance to the finals. 09.01.2022 This weekend. the AGM was held, and the highlight was the granting of life membership to Merv Wilshere and Richard Mau, and the honour of club patron being bestowed on Bill Payard. The two new life members have put in almost 50 years service to the club. Merv was president for 14 years and a NQ rep for many years. Richard has been president, selector and willing worker for many years. Merv and Richard have been the backbone of this volunteer based club for many years with Mer...v providing valuable trades skills and Richard maintaining a green that has been the envy of North Queensland for some 20 years. Without the efforts of these two men, this small club would not have been in the strong position it is in now. The election of officials at the AGM resulted in a ground-hog day result, with all 2018 officials being re-elected. Members of the major political parties have already been enquiring about how to maintain this stability in leadership. The easy to say, hard to do reason is, leadership. On Friday night there was a high powered contest between a brace of star bowlers. Ross McLaughlin, Wayne Coonan and Rino Lazzarin had a tight win over Nancy Roser, Rob Jorgensen and Joe Yipanazar. Joes team played some loose shots early, which should not have been a problem, except that in this standard of contest it proved very costly. On Sunday the open Presidents Day competition was contested with legs of hams provided courtesy of the club executive. Third place went to Joe Yipanazar, Joy Woods, and Kay Garner who played consistent bowls to defeat their much fancied opposition comprising Norm Storrie, Graham Male and Tony Eadie. Second place went to the pair of Vanda Ballo and Leo Kenny who defeated Ken Rayner and Alan Garioch courtesy of a Vanda master class which, on value, would get her selected for Queensland. First prize went Nev Dickinson, Henry Hazel, and Peter Henderson who were all over Doug Kiehne, Vince Beitia and Rino Lazzarin. When hams are on the line, this trio spark into action. On Friday the 7th of December, the last night for 2018 will be contested, which will mean there will be a wrap up of all outstanding jackpots. Games will be on Sunday with names in by 1:00pm for a 1:30pm start. Call Gary on 0488214222 or the club on 0456727061 close to the times above. 06.01.2022 Brandon Bowls 25102020 Brandon Bowls Club was the place to be, on Friday night, with Nutrien Ag Solutions hosting a great night of bowls. There was plenty of fertiliser talk, earthy humour, and adventurous bowls played. The team of Margaret Chapman, Darelle Pearce, and Damian Morello were highly delighted with their first place. The team of Joe Yipanazar, Norm and Lyn Storrie and L Floridus were beaming after taking out second prize. The wise old crew of Ray Panecassio, Robe...rt Lazzarin and Ray Calligaro took out the Bradman’s prize. . On Saturday, two championship Triples matches were contested. The trio of Rob Garner, Doug Kiehne, and Gary Nosworthy were going blow for blow with the trio of Richard Mau, Rino Lazzarin and Norm Higgenbotham until two-thirds of the way into the match. Richard’s crew then shifted up a gear and went into action finishing off the match with a comfortable victory. In the other match the trio of Simon Griggs, Kev Collinson and Chris Griggs took the match by the scruff of the neck early on, only for the trio of Doug Robins, Nev Dickinson and Ross McLaughlin to mount a fightback. The fightback started to look promising, till, Simon and his crew went up another level, cruising to victory. On Sunday the Julies Pharmacy mixed triples afternoon was contested. The trio of Norm Storrie, Leo Kenny and Joe Yipanazar took out first prize. Norm set up the tale of woe for the opposition and Joe’s lazer like sharpness cutting through any hope they had of winning. Ray Panecassio, Wayne Coonan and Mick McCloskey put in a calm, and focussed performance to take out second prize. Jamie Woods, Vince Beitia and Alan Garioch took out third prize. With Vince, the bowls whisperer, guiding the bowls into the head, the opposition had no chance. Matches will be on again on Friday night with names in by 6:00pm for a 6:30pm start and on Sunday with names in by 1:00pm for a 1:30pm start.
01.01.2022 Brandon Bowls Club WE 21/07/2019 Newsletter On Friday night Fahey and Walsh hosted an excellent night of fun, laughter and shivering with a bit of bowls thrown in. The winners were the dynamic group comprising Jenny Steiner, Heidy Prideaux, Paul Bortello and Andrew Prideaux. Second place went to the cool, calm and collected group of Michel Clive, Danny Barbagallo, Ian Giddy and Peter Jorgensen. The Bradman’s prize was picked up by the relaxed and laidback group comprising Mor...gan Soper, Robert Lazzarin and Ray Calligaro. Games will be on next Friday night with names in by 6:30pm for a 7:00pm start The B pairs final was contested on Sunday in what proved to be a game for the ages. The lead see-sawed throughout the afternoon with some of the best bowls you would see being played. The 2019 champions are Nev Dickinson and Rob Garner who overcome the valiant pair in Chris Pearce and Jamie Woods. Chris and Jamie made sure Rob and Nev earned the win. The A Singles contest was a high, pressure game contested between Gary Pearce and Wayne Coonan. Gary took command in the first half of the game, then Wayne started a steady fightback taking over the lead as the contest got to the pointy end. It got to a point where who won the end would be the victor. Gary put in a steady end of a mixture of draw and attacking bowls to convert a losing position into victory. The Sunday triples matches were well contested. The pick of the matches was the drawn game between the trio of Doug Kiehne, Norm Storrie and Joe Yipanazar and the dangerous mob of Mick McCloskey, Rob Jorgensen and Rino Lazzarin. The match between Ken Ferguson, Con Sexton, Alan Garioch and the trio of Les Schubert, Vince Beitia, and Richard Mau ended up as a victory for Alan’s team courtesy of a virtuoso performance by the clubs most improved bowlers Ken and Con. Gary Nosworthy, Bob Garner, and Peter Henderson put on a commanding performance to defeat Brenton Trezise, Merv Wilshere and Leo Kenny. In a hard to prove act of gamesmanship, every time Brenton stood up to bowl, Peter would lean his head forward catching a sun reflection and directing it into Brenton’s eye. On Sunday the 28th of July, Transnorth are hosting a day of bowls commencing at 1:30pm. The day is a mixed format, and the teams will be club drawn. Members are to bring a plate for afternoon smoko.
