24.01.2022 **Sustainability Update** We have a competition for you all at home which will run until the beginning of Term 4 when we hope we can get your submissions back. Shani is an artist in NSW and she has been collecting bread tags for an art installation. This project is called The Breadtag Project you can find her on Instagram @the_breadtag_project. You can see some of Shanis previous artworks with breadtags on her blog or her Instagram account referenced above.... There are thousands upon thousands of bread tags produced daily and they are not easily recyclable, so Shani is collecting them to create amazing art works. We thought Brandon Park Primary School students would love to help out! Competition time! Collect bread tags during our remote learning time. When we return to school after the holidays for Term 4, we will weigh them and the students who had collected the heaviest amount of bread tags will win a Green prize! Start collecting today! The Breadtag Project

22.01.2022 Weve hosted Wavecare in the past to help make their information and services accessible to the Monash community. But pandemic restrictions have meant that thei...r programs cant be run in the library right now. The good news is that Wavecare are currently offering free telehealth appointments for socially isolated people who are in need of assistance for a range of reasons including grief, trauma, homelessness, disability and other crises. To make their service even more accessible, Wavecare can connect with people in English, Mandarin, Cantonese, Hindi, Punjab, Nepalese, Vietnamese, Singa and Thai. For more information or to book a free appointment online please visit the Wavecare website: www.wavecare.org.au/

21.01.2022 Friday 13th November (tomorrow ) is World Kindness Day, a day to spread kindness throughout the school and wherever we go! Small gestures can really impact someone’s life. On this day we encourage everyone to be kind to one another. You could help someone out, ask people how they are going, tell someone a joke, and remember, one compliment can go a long way! In honour of this day we would like everyone to wear blue as we will be raising money for Beyond Blue. This is one of... Australia’s most well known organisations that supports and helps people with their health and mental wellbeing. Some blue suggestions for Friday: blue clothes , blue hair , blue shoes, blue ribbons, blue hat or anything blue ! You can call 1300 224 636 24 hours a day, 7 days a week or go to the website for more information. 20.01.2022 Were very excited to announce our partnership with Street Library Australia! Street libraries are colourful cubby houses for books planted in your front yard. ...They invite neighbours and passersby to discover a new book, share a love of reading and feel connected with their local community. In the words of our Street Library friends: At a time when so much of our lives have become digitised, these tiny vestibules of literary happiness are able to surprise and delight the lives of those who stumble across them and the books that line their shelves. Thanks to Street Library, each CBCA Branch will be giving one lucky Member their very own street library to install and decorate in time for CBCA Book Week in Term 4. We cant wait to see these little book cubbies in situ! For more information and to buy your very own Street Library, head to their website at: https://streetlibrary.org.au/ #streetlibrary

06.01.2022 Today is Indigenous Literacy Day, a day where we celebrate Indigenous stories, languages and culture, and acknowledge the Indigenous literacy gap. Only 36% of I...ndigenous Year 5 students in very remote areas are at or above national minimum reading standards, compared to 96% for non-Indigenous students in major cities, according to the 2018 National Assessment Program for Literacy and Numeracy (NAPLAN). The situation is improving but there is still a long way to go and the challenges are immense. Find out more: https://bit.ly/3iIAVWZ To celebrate Indigenous stories and culture, families with young children can access numerous interactive stories on StoryBox Library, many of which are read by Aboriginal storytellers. Simply go to StoryBox Library on our website, log in using only your library card number and input indigenous to the search box to see all the stories available. www.monlib.vic.gov.au/storybox You may also like to revisit our Reconciliation Week Storytime video by Michelle who read The Outback by Annaliese Porter. https://youtu.be/3Uuh6cmqCss To learn more about the value of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples first languages, join the Indigenous Literacy Foundation for a Live YouTube Event at 12.30pm today: www.youtube.com/user/IndigenousLiteracy/featured #indigenousliteracy #readingopensdoors #librarieschangelives
