25.01.2022 HOW NOT TO SUCK AT SELF PROMOTION If you want to help more people and grow your biz, you need a call to action! 3 ways to make a call to action without it being icky.... Details for my offer in comments (see what I did there?) Over to you! Tell us what you do and provide a call to action or offer don't be shy!! 25.01.2022 Don't forget to tell your story! One of the big mistakes I see brands and their leaders making is forgetting to tell their story. YOU know your story, but your audience doesn't.... Your audience really wants to get to know you! They want to know what makes you tick. And when you can connect your story to the reason you love your work and helping people the way you do, it brings your brand to life. It's not just about your products, services and processes. That's important - but secondary. So when you're preparing a speech, a pitch, your social content or writing other copy, remember to go back through it and check elements of your story are in there.

24.01.2022 Coming soon...! I had such a blast chatting today with the one and only Rosie Shilo from Virtually Yours about the importance of planning in managing teams and Virtual Assistants. I can't wait to share that with you soon

24.01.2022 Ive decided to start a Hall of Fame for brands making good use of their platform to disrupt antisocial behaviour and advance social issues. Last weeks goes to Libra. Todays Hall of Fame award goes to Campbells Soup. Im not 100% sure this meme is legit as the tone of voice is a little edgy for a family brand (and frankly as a marketer I would not sign that off because its a bit rude) - BUT you get the drift...

23.01.2022 Hi from Canberra! Im on a five week tour seeing clients and associates down the east coast. Its my first time in our nations capital so of course I had to check out a few sights including Parliament House here in the background. Canberra is a pretty place but pretty frosty! Im grateful theres no bushfires close by. Thinking of all those still battling and coming to terms with fires today in NSW and QLD.

23.01.2022 Social media has changed the way we talk about socio-political issues forever. This year alone, the Bushfires (remember them, like a million years ago), Covid and Black Lives Matter are just a few of the key issues we've been navigating and for some - furiously debating - online. But as a business and a brand, when and how do you get involved in these conversations? What are some of the risks? How do you minimise the risk of getting it wrong and alienating your followers? This great article goes some way to helping us understand how to engage in a woke world. Do you talk about these things on your personal and business pages? How has that gone for you?

22.01.2022 Crazy busy? Here's how you outsource Recently, one of my previous mentoring clients asked how to hire people to help you scale once you've got a working sales and marketing model. 1. Document the tasks and step by step processes that you are currently doing (if non-standard). ... 2. Write down specifically what tasks you want your VA to take over and what results you expect them to achieve. 3. Make sure they have everything they need to do a good, efficient job for you. Pull together e.g. any marketing assets and passwords they will need and put them in a shared Dropbox that's easily accessed and updated. 4. Rosie Shilo at Virtually Yours can help connect you with a great VA or you can try community noticeboards on Facebook. There are many out there at different rates ($30-80/ hour depending on the skills) and it can be a case of you get what you pay for. So look for someone with solid experience and good reviews in this area who you vibe well with. Agree on how you will communicate, manage the process and measure results. Some extra tips - - Pay on deliverables (eg per newsletter), not on time. - Remember that meeting times etc are all chargeable time as it's part of their service and business model. - Give your VA some notice when you want to change up what you are doing. - Remember there might be some teething issues to begin and to be patient through the onboarding process til you understand each other and have a well oiled machine. And Rosie Shilo added that - like any great leader - you should share with your VA your dream and vision - so they know where you are headed and how they can help.

22.01.2022 Today is not business as usual! Its so great to see so many people here at the #schoolstrike4climate and #climatestrike here on the #goldcoast We just heard the story of devastation from the nearby Binnaburra community that lost their homes and heritage listed rainforest to an unprecedented wildfire earlier this month. The world is changing. Its time to stand up to climate deniers and demand #climatejustice. Its time for us all to change. We are ready #scomowherethebloodyhellareyou @scottmorrisonmp Amanda Blennerhassett

19.01.2022 As much as I love 'the old way' of buying groceries and chatting to a human being behind the register, I believe major automation of supermarkets and many industries is inevitable as people's lives hit peak busyness, technology continues to advance and the focus on the bottom line remains paramount to C-Suite KPIs (unfortunate but that's capitalism). I believe our governments should be more focused on and supportive of fostering innovation and emerging industries and entrepr...eneurs that create new jobs. I believe they should be developing strategies to upskill and transition affected workers into new roles. (And I know tons of people have retrained and unfortunately can't get jobs, hence the point about new and emerging industry). It would appear that innovation at an industry level is not keeping up with the rate of innovation at the automation/ operational level. It's a major structural and systemic issue overall. This is why we need change makers and disruptors to forge new pathways. If there is insufficient focus top-down, let's make it happen bottom-up

18.01.2022 Hard work isnt work when you believe in it

18.01.2022 Emotion sells! When you're marketing and pitching (or frankly, trying to create agreement with anyone in life) - remember, rational benefits are important but emotional benefits are what get purchasing decisions over the line. Keep your focus on what they will get out of it.... For example, yes they want their tax return done - but what they are buying is the confidence in their accountant, the thrill of getting the maximum return, the ease of a smooth process and the relief of getting it off their to do list. You can often show this in imagery of positive experiences and outcomes and weave the emotional nuances into the copywriting so that delivery is effortless and classy.

16.01.2022 'Ommmmmm....' This is literally my new mantra. No more excuses. ... As my ever wise sister once said, "Remember, your 80% is probably someone else's 150%." It doesn't have to be perfect. Just keep going.

15.01.2022 PODCAST! In case you missed my recent podcast interview - here's the full video! It's all about how to identify your purpose and turn it into profit.

14.01.2022 Happy new year everyone My last two weeks looked a lot like this Heaven! However, as you all undoubtedly know, it's been a hell of a start to 2020 here in Australia. Our local community is heavily focused on assisting the bushfire efforts and I am volunteering a fair bit out of hours at the moment to help with donations and sewing mittens, pouches and bat wraps for the WIRES wildlife services, desperately needed to help the thousands upon thousands of injured animals.... These situations bring out the very worst and also the very best in humanity. Whilst there is a lot of anger and grief, especially being shared online, there is also such dedication, kindness and generosity, and in a grim way, these times can bring communities and strangers together. If you are interested in supporting the bushfires and haven't yet found your outlet, Brand Savvy is supporting the incredible work of Ophelia and her team at My Sisters Keeper. This recent cancer survivor is working tirelessly to source and deliver high quality gas masks to volunteer fire fighters all over NSW that need the resources NOW. They are breathing all kinds of noxious gases, asbestos and dust particles into their healthy lungs, some are just teenagers. For $112 you can gift someone a mask. All details are on her page. I am seeing so many businesses step up in kindness, doing special drives to donate profits and spreading the word of how to help. They are doing it because they care. This is just one way that businesses help change our communities for the better. And we need change now more than ever. It's getting really real out there. Let's make what we do count. Wishing you all a wonderful 2020. Amanda x

13.01.2022 Our friends at The Good Beer Co. that I love to support - have once again got Australia's back - this time helping get a 4-pack of craft beer to deserving Covid-19 frontline workers around the country - while supporting craft brewers hit by the downturn. A $20 donation gets a cost-priced 4-pack to someone deserving. Please join us in saying thanks to all the hard working men and women on the front line!

12.01.2022 Some of the most badass disruptors on the planet right now are our young people. My respect for 16-year-old Greta Thunberg and the work she is doing to raise awareness for climate action is massive. Imagine growing up now literally not knowing if you'll still have a habitable planet to live on by the time you're ready to retire. Imagine being expected to focus on school and chores, let alone flourish in life, without that certainty. If there is any area of the world that 100%... needs disruption it's to the powers that be for the protection of our planet. That's why this Friday Sept 20 - even though I haven't been to a protest since Muraroa Atoll was getting bombed - I will be joining them in the #goldcoast and millions of people around the world for the #schoolstrike4climate and #climatestrike. Look at Hong Kong. When we unite and show up en masse, governments take notice. Because when our grandkids ask what we did to fight climate change and the sixth mass extinction on planet Earth, we don't want our full answer to be "I recycled sometimes", right? For details of how you can get involved please check out the links in comments. Love to see you there.

12.01.2022 Your marketing really can change the world I know this image will irk some of you but here's why you need to read this: This advertisement, this choice to represent women's menstrual blood as actual blood - not something that looks like a toilet cleaner - is actually a MASSIVE moment of cultural change. ... It represents the breaking of thousands of years of a taboo towards women - a taboo that in some countries costs women their lives and in many, including Australia, the quality of their education and daily life. I applaud Libra and the Ad Standards board for their decision to make this change and keep this on air. To destigmatise and de-shame the natural and essential bodily process of menstruation - without which literally none of us would exist. It will take people a while to adjust because understandably it's a big change for some people's comfort zones... but they will adjust.

11.01.2022 As if we needed another reason to love Aldi - here it is! Kudos to Aldi for consistently standing my its positive brand and business values. They're once again showing effective leadership on ethics and sustainability in the Australian grocery market.

11.01.2022 VALUES IN ACTION Well isnt this interesting! This company just withdrew its purchase of leather from Brazil over the environmental degradation - burning the Amazon to farm more cattle. Purchasing power in action. #branddoinggood #youaretherevolution

04.01.2022 Well 2020 is off to an interesting start! I'm delighted to announce that I've just joined a fabulous line up to become a mentor for the University of Bristol's Quantum Technology Enterprise Centre - a world-leading incubator helping scientists convert cutting edge academic findings to commercial application. I wouldn't consider myself a particularly 'sciencey' person - and yet I find their work and its powerful applications completely fascinating. It's an honour to be able to help these talented folks solve a few of the problems of our times and get their work out to the world.

02.01.2022 Leadership is EVERYTHING!! If you asked me the difference between a regular leader and an exceptional leader - the ones that get the big results as a change maker - I would say it is the ability to master this one skill - emotional mastery. Growing a heart-aligned business and brand, breaking the mould, punching above your weight - it all requires going beyond your comfort zone. It all requires being with ups and downs, financial stresses, people's reactions to your work,... your leadership style AND having the self awareness to hold your centre and RESPOND, not REACT. This is what makes the difference between fleeting anxiety, anger or disappointment and self-sabotage. It can have massive impact on your success. So if this is not something you feel confident in, make it a priority for 2020. You will be SO happy you did. This is what holistic, sustainable business success requires. If you need help you can reach out to or follow our client, emotional mastery guru Liana Allison, Institute Of Empathic Leadership (I'm not paid to say this, she's genuinely amazing and changed my life!!!)
