22.01.2022 31 December 2020 "At The End Of The Year" by John O'Donohue invites us into a gentle examen of the year like no other we have ever experienced. May our reflect...ion, acknowledgement and thanks aid us in closing this chapter of our lives and ready us for the opening of the new with all its hope and promise... As this year draws to its end, We give thanks for the gifts it brought And how they became inlaid within Where neither time nor tide can touch them. The days when the veil lifted And the soul could see delight; When a quiver caressed the heart In the sheer exuberance of being here. Surprises that came awake In forgotten corners of old fields Where expectation seemed to have quenched. The slow, brooding times When all was awkward And the wave in the mind Pierced every sore with salt. The darkened days that stopped The confidence of the dawn. Days when beloved faces shone brighter With light from beyond themselves; And from the granite of some secret sorrow A stream of buried tears loosened. We bless this year for all we learned, For all we loved and lost And for the quiet way it brought us Nearer to our invisible destination. ~ John O’Donohue from Benedictus

21.01.2022 The celebration of Christmas has begun. Jesus is light in the darkness. May your world and this world be filled with peace and goodwill.

18.01.2022 It was great to see fellow RAV participants out today on the Speers Point to Eleebana track. We clapped, cheered and encouraged each other on as we passed by. ...I’ll introduce myself- I’m Melanie and I am the Newcastle Anglican RAVheads team captain. I’m also the Priest at Toronto Anglican Church, NSW. We are really humbled to be a part of this virtual challenge. I took running back up in May this year and this challenge entered my news feed and at first I the distance seemed too much. But it kept popping up and I was really keen to find out more as Family and Domestic Violence is something that is close to my heart. Before long I was sending a few emails and we got a Newcastle Anglican team together. We have 2 Bishops, several Priests, a Deacon and a few Church members join us from across our Diocese. I’ll introduce you to our team members over the course of the weekend and early next week. The Anglican Diocese of Newcastle is committed to helping break the silence and stop the cycles of violence.

15.01.2022 "On 12.21.2020 (the December solstice), Jupiter and Saturn will align so closely in the night sky that they'll create a radiant point of light some call the "So...lstice Star," "Star of Bethlehem" or the "Christmas Star." "Alignments between these two planets are rather rare, occurring once every 20 years or so, but this conjunction is exceptionally rare because of how close the planets will appear to be to one another," said Patrick Hartigan, an astronomer at Rice University. "You'd have to go all the way back to just before dawn on March 4, 1226, to see a closer alignment between these objects visible in the night sky." The event, sometimes referred to as The Great Conjunction, occurs roughly every 19 to 20 years, but this is the closest the planets will line up in the night sky since the Middle Ages." full story: Jupiter and Saturn Will Align to Create the First "Christmas Star" in Nearly 800 Years https://www.yahoo.com//jupiter-saturn-align-create-first-2

13.01.2022 Introducing Newcastle Anglican RAVheads team member The Reverend Nicole Baldwin. Nicole is the Priest at Branxton, Greta, Lochinvar. Nicole shares this experi...ence whilst walking for the Run Against Violence: ‘A lady and man stopped me to ask about the RAV. We walked about two kilometres together talking about the importance of raising awareness of violence of any sort. During that walk, she shared that her son had been the victim of violence and that had raised her awareness of violence perpetrated by women against men and how any person can be a victim.’

08.01.2022 Introducing Newcastle Anglican RAVheads team member The Reverend Michelle Hazel Jawhary. Michelle is the Parish Priest at Singleton and is also the Convenor for... the NSW Ecumenical Council of Churches and the Commission of Overcoming Domestic and Family Violence. Our clergy involved in the RAV and our Diocese are committed to working with our local communities. Michelle writes: ‘I have loved being part of this virtual challenge for such an important campaign in raising the awareness to end Domestic and Family violence. Also, it has been a special experience sharing this journey with colleagues and friends as the Newcastle Anglican RAVheads team. In any movement most people believe in a cause and being the church is a cause that recognises that all people were created by God and are precious and loved. All people look for hope in their life and from my experience in DFV, most often victims turn to the church to find hope and peace. Working alongside and supporting our Domestic and Family Violence agencies is vital so that all people will know and receive wholeness of life’.

08.01.2022 What a privilege to baptise these beautiful twins, Willow Grace and Evelyn Rose. Mum and Dad were married in St John’s last year. It was a delight to see their family and friends gathered together again for today’s celebration

08.01.2022 Introducing Newcastle Anglican RAVheads team member Bishop Sonia Roulston, Assistant Bishop for the Inland Region of the Anglican Diocese of Newcastle. Bishop ...Sonia writes 'I usually walk along the harbour when I walk - such a lovely place to be! On the way back, in Newcastle West is the Nova Women’s Centre. Every heart on their front wall represents a woman or a child killed because of domestic violence. It is a stark reminder of why we are walking. See more

06.01.2022 Introducing Newcastle Anglican RAVheads team member The Reverend Sarah Dulley. Sarah is the Deacon at Telarah Rutherford. Sarah writes: 'Family violence is pre...valent in our communities and too often is not acknowledged and addressed. Close friends of mine have lived through life threatening violence from their spouse, and as a consequence, live with both physical and emotional scars. Too many families that I have worked with over the years have suffered ongoing emotional and physical trauma as a result of family violence. Participating in Run Against Violence gives me the opportunity raise awareness about family violence in our communities and focuses my prayers for all that are caught in the cycle of violence, for those that are working for a better future, and, for those agencies that deliver services. Every step we take is a prayer offered.' See more

06.01.2022 Introducing Newcastle Anglican RAVheads team member The Reverend Mark Cooper. Mark writes: 'I've been running for about 8 years now. I got into running when my... weight blew out to 130kgs and I really needed to get that under control. Since then I've discovered that the running community is incredibly supportive and it's okay that we are each on our own journey with our own goals. To keep me motivated I run every day and I always have a race to train for. This year with COVID virtual running has helped with this motivation, and to be able to help bring awareness in our community about topic that has been secretive for too long - domestic violence - gives added meaning to my runs.' Well done Mark! See more

05.01.2022 Merry Christmas from our family to you and yours. May the blessings of the first Christmas rest gently upon this Christmas.

04.01.2022 The Anglican Diocese of Newcastle is seeing an increase in the number women looking to become priests. Women aren't allowed to become priests in some dioce...ses, such as Sydney and Armidale, which has historically led to some women moving to Newcastle to complete the process. Bishop of Newcastle, Peter Stuart says they ordained two women in December and there are more coming. "We do have more women coming through at the moment as candidates than men at this diocese," he said. "So at the end of December we accepted seven new ordination candidates, two male and five females. "So we're still finding that a number of women who've been thinking about vocation all of their life are able to do so and feel more encouraged to do so now more than ever." He says candidates are selected on their character and spirituality, not their gender, but it's had a positive impact on the diocese. "The ordination of women to the priesthood here in Newcastle was one of those turning points which actually allowed for a change in the way that we're governed, a change in the way that we speak about things, a change in the way that some things are understood. "I think it helped make us a safer church."

01.01.2022 On this day...29 July 1974...women were ordained priests in The Episcopal Church...Let us pray... O God, you poured your Spirit from on high to bless and summon... these women, who heard the strength of your call: Equip, guide, and inspire us with wisdom, boldness, and faith to trust you in all circumstances, hear you preach new life to your Church, and stretch out our hands to serve you, as you created us and redeemed us in the name of Jesus Christ, who lives with you and the Holy Spirit, one God everlasting.
