16.01.2022 "Dementia - meeting the person" Just a reminder of this event on 31st August. Please pm me if you are interested - 9.30am to 12.30pm with Dr Judith Boyland and Tania Fisher at Carina League Club, 1390 Creek Rd, Carina

10.01.2022 Are you feeling stuck? Depressed? Unmotivated? Fearful? Try the "5-4-3-2-1-GO!" challenge..... The first 5 seconds can make or break your decision/choices in life. If you allow yourself to "think" about something for longer than 5 seconds, your brain will try to PROTECT you and will find any excuse not to do it. Change your habits and your life with the 5 second action plan... THIS WEEK'S CHALLENGE.... Every time you have a negative or complaining thought this week, countdown 5-4-3-2-1-GO! (Change the thought to a positive or grateful thought)

03.01.2022 DEMENTIA "MEETING THE PERSON" Feedback on meeting last Saturday in Carina Speakers: Dr Judith Boyland and Tanya Fischer... An excellent presentation by two experienced speakers giving both statistics/facts as well as a personal experience with a loved one suffering with this challenging illness. I learned so much from this meeting.... both things that discouraged me, but also things that encouraged me, as I take this long walk with my mother. I learned that Dementia itself is not a disease, but is the end result of any one of a number of other diseases. I learned that Dementia does not represent a character reflected in the movie One Flew over the Cuckoo's Nest", but that the person living inside the body that you knew is now just trapped and growing BACKWARDS towards Infant stage and needs the same love and compassion/care you would give to a newborn baby. I learned that it is actually much harder/painful for the family, than it is for the person with the illness. There was so much more I learned from this meeting, but the biggest take homes" for me were these..... BE PATIENT - DON'T TRY TO CORRECT THEM... Meet them where they are at TODAY RESPECT THEM and help them maintain their DIGNITY. LOVE THEM UNCONDITIONALLY - Hold the good memories close and love them anyway.

01.01.2022 Last week was ARE YOU OK? Week. THANK YOU to everyone who has taken this to heart and asked someone they care about if they are OK. I hope you really took the time to LISTEN to their response. I have become so aware of the flippancy of this question, where people ASK, but they really DON’T WANT TO HEAR nor do they HAVE THE TIME/PATIENCE to really listen to the answer. So I want to ask you PLEASE ASK the QUESTION, but please be prepared to LISTEN. If the person feels r...ejected / their feelings are made out to be not so serious and that they should just GET OVER IT Stop feeling sorry for themselves/seeking attention, etc. that person may NEVER share their feelings again. Please, if you are going to ask be prepared to hear the truth. See more
