16.01.2022 At 40, Franz Kafka (1883-1924), who never married and had no children, walked through the park in Berlin when he met a girl who was crying because she had lost ...her favourite doll. She and Kafka searched for the doll unsuccessfully. Kafka told her to meet him there the next day and they would come back to look for her. The next day, when they had not yet found the doll, Kafka gave the girl a letter "written" by the doll saying "please don't cry. I took a trip to see the world. I will write to you about my adventures." Thus began a story which continued until the end of Kafka's life. During their meetings, Kafka read the letters of the doll carefully written with adventures and conversations that the girl found adorable. Finally, Kafka brought back the doll (he bought one) that had returned to Berlin. "It doesn't look like my doll at all," said the girl. Kafka handed her another letter in which the doll wrote: "my travels have changed me." the little girl hugged the new doll and brought her happy home. A year later Kafka died. Many years later, the now-adult girl found a letter inside the doll. In the tiny letter signed by Kafka it was written: "Everything you love will probably be lost, but in the end, love will return in another way." #kafka #thedoll

A helpful reminder to all that commenting on a another...’s body good or bad is rarely helpful and more often hurtful. While a compliment on someone’s physical body might make the person feel good in the moment, such comments tend to have negative effects long-term. For every person I have met whom attributes negative comments about their body to their low self-esteem, I have met another person who attributes their insecurities to the frequent positive comments they receive about their physical appearance. Setting boundaries around what types of conversation you are comfortable being a part is an important step in maintaining a healthy relationship with your body. Just like Jonah Hill has demonstrated, you have a right to voice how these comments affect you, and you have a right to remove yourself from unsupportive conversations. 02.01.2022 In PACT, we focus not simply on the people and psychologies in a relationship, but also on the nervous systems interacting with one another at the speed of ligh...t. One of the three domains of our approach is arousal regulation, which refers to the functioning of the autonomic nervous system and its affiliate parts and systems. Arousal regulation largely resides outside of what we typically think of as psychology. For this reason, we refer to this aspect of PACT as pertaining to the sub-psychological, implicit, noncognitive, primitive, and animalistic part of us. Integration of arousal regulation as a psychobiological process, in combination with consideration of attachment styles and neurobiological deficits, creates an approach to working with each partner’s core self.
