Talented, driven, passionate, kind, brilliant and knowledgeable, this amazing woman has been a part of Glamourosas for a long time and we are very excited to have her leading the team. A few weeks ago, the Glams posted a black square, as a small gesture to show we were standing with the BLM... and then we went silent. Why? ... The last few weeks have been a flurry of discussions, deep reflection and putting into place actions and plans to truly implement change. The Glamourosas hold a humble position of privilege; we have positioned ourselves as representatives of a culture, in a place where the majority of people have not been exposed to the culture. This is a privilege and a responsibility we take incredibly seriously. In Canberra especially, we are able to benefit from the dance, the culture and the beauty of Samba shared with us by Brazil without seeing and experiencing the oppression, hardships and sometimes the deep spirituality that gave birth to this style that we love so much. This means, we must do everything we can to respect, deeply appreciate and step into the space as humans ready to learn. We are committed to continuously learning, learning from the Brazilian Samba community, and sharing this learning journey with our community. Simply put, we are stepping back into the spotlight post-covid with a greater sense of how important it is to use our platform. Not only will we continue to always provide incredible performances, entertainment and alegria (joy) we are now going to ensure we curate a space that educates and amplifies the voices of Brazilians as the owners of this culture we are SO privileged to be part of.
