25.01.2022 As you can well imagine, we often work side-by-side with other tradies. From builders, to plumbers, to tilers, to gas specialists. One recent job, a young family was having a new reverse-cycle unit installed. While the job was completed largely by a refrigeration mechanic (due to the refrigerants used); we were called in to arrange the installation of a new power point and connections to complete the install. Upon completion, the family (and their landlord) offered the foll...owing testimonial: We just want to say thanks so much for Steven’s work. He came in at short notice and did an amazing job, working with the other tradies. It’s amazing how little mess was made- but even better- he cleaned up afterwards! Never had a tradie do that before - CL It’s always encouraging to hear feedback like this. We hope you’ll enjoy your new reverse cycle unit for many years to come (especially in this weather!) If you need an electrician, who works efficiently with other trades and looks after their clients, call Sam and the team from BRB Electrical on 0412 513 222. Proudly looking after families around Bendigo for over 20 years.
25.01.2022 Great advice from the CEO.

24.01.2022 Wow! Talk about extreme weather! To think that just last week, there were the risks of bushfire & extreme heat. With so many areas of Bendigo experiencing flooding today; here's a quick reminder of how to stay safe- both during, and after the flood event.... 1. STAY AWAY FROM ANY DOWNED OR DAMAGED POWER LINES OR ELECTRICAL CORDS. 2. EVACUATE THE AFFECTED AREA This is especially pertinent with roof collapses, with ceilings, insulation, lighting, ducts and electrical wiring all having the potential to fall down and cause serious injury (or worse!) 3. SWITCH OFF THE POWER AS SOON AS SAFE TO DO SO. Switching off the flow of electricity until the water has subsided/ been cleaned away makes it much safer for everyone; as water is a great conductor of electricity. 4. WEAR PROTECTIVE GLOVES & RUBBER-SOLED SHOES DURING THE CLEAN-UP PROCESS This provides some insulation and ‘grounding’, to reduce the impact of any electrical conductivity. Please, don’t wear thongs or try this barefoot. 5. DON’T SWITCH ON YOUR WATER-DAMAGED APPLIANCES In the event of a business, such as a day spa, becoming flooded; it’s vital to check that the large appliances (such as washing machines and driers) have not become water damaged. If you ‘re-energise’ the appliances after water has gotten into the motor or electrics, you run the risk of the equipment igniting, causing not only damage to the appliance, but to the surrounding building as well. Always get damaged appliances checked before using them again, and replace if needed. Replacing items is far better than replacing a building or a business. Simply follow these simple tips, and always call a qualified professional, for quality workmanship and peace of mind. If you were affected by the floods, and want/need to get your electrics checked, call Sam and the team or 0412 513 222.
24.01.2022 Are you sick of your Wi-Fi Cutting out? It’s safe to say that more of us have been reliant on the internet to get through 2020; with many businesses still operating remotely, as well as countless hours of remote learning for many families. While many people shopped around for the best deal on their data to meet their new needs- there are several who suffered the inconvenience of the Wi-Fi dropping out.... There are many reasons for this: including increased demand effecting the bandwidth; to maintenance and downtime; but also- Wi-Fi signals are not as strong as wired-in ethernet cables. Let me be clear, we’re not against Wi-Fi. It’s offers fantastic versatility- with affordable, wireless access available across a number of devices and spaces. But did you know that connecting via ethernet cables gives a much more secure connection? Hardwired ethernet cables offer more reliable internet, meaning you’ll experience fewer ‘drop outs’, offers more security from hackers (though not infallible); and offers much faster download speeds over a secure connection- perfect for data intensive business, or household who stream lots of movies or online gaming. With a range of ethernet and other cables options available, our team can greatly improve the versatility of your business with strategically placed cables- perfect for office spaces. If your company relies on good, steady, high-speed internet, then ethernet might the solution you’re looking for. To find out if how it could work in your home or office, call Sam and the team on 0412 513 222 to organise a customised quote. #OnTime #OnCall #OnBudget #BRBElectrical
24.01.2022 Solar Panel Catches Fire! This week, our team received a unique call out, after a solar panel caught fire. Now, while our team did not install this set-up, it raises some safety issues, so let’s look at how this could have happened, and what you can do to prevent it happening to you.... Why did this happen? There are 3 main reason which may have caused the panel to catch fire. 1. Poor quality panels. Not all panels are created equal, and some of the cheaper kits may be a lower quality. 2. Faulty Installation. If the installation was incorrectly installed, then it is possible that the wiring could be faulty, causing the spark. 3. Build up of debris/lack of maintenance. So, what can you do to stop this happening? While a number of other scenarios could have caused this (in theory), there are some very simple steps you can take to reduce the risk. 1. Use a qualified, trusted electrician (who has adequate training and experience in solar) 2. Use high quality panels and parts on all electrical works 3. Clean your gutters- clean out the debris under your panels. (It’s also a good idea to give your panels a quick look over for any damage or changes). Go with a team you can trust. Call BRB Electrical on 0421 513 222 for your solar and electrical needs.

22.01.2022 Have you ever had a rotary phone in your home? Fun Fact: the average house is Bendigo is 42 years old. Whether you had (or still have) a landline or rotary phone in your home, it’s amazing how much technology has changed over the past 40 years. ... We now have bigger TVs and entertainment consoles, larger fridges, freezers, dishwashers, not to mention the fact that the internet has become a necessity for business, schooling and entertainment. If you home is roughly 30 or 40 years old, have you ever thought about the wiring? While there’s no doubt that the electricians and building teams completed their work to a high standard, it’s extraordinary how much our lives have changed; and how much more pressure our modern lifestyles place on wiring within our homes. Even if the wiring is still in good condition, is it suiting your purpose? Do you have enough power points, USB charge points, maybe your life would be easier if you had ethernet cable installed in your home office or bedrooms? With our lifestyles evolving so rapidly, with new phones and software being updated every 12 months or so-is it time that the wiring at your home got an update too? If you’re noticing sparks from power points, flickering lights, or valuable bench space being taken up with power cords and cords; then it’s time to look at your wiring. 20.01.2022 With the COVID Shutdown still in place- what do I do if I lose power? The good news is, safe and reliable power is an essential service, so COVID or not; if you’re without power, you’re still able to get help. Here’s a few helpful steps to stay safe; and what to do next to get your power back to normal.... As per usual, your first port of call should be CitiPower or Powercor. Check out their website(s) or social media, and see if there are any reported outages in your area. Most of the time, whole streets or suburbs are impacted, not just individual homes or businesses. Follow their instructions/notifications. Make sure that you tell them if you have CPAP or life support/dialysis machines, or other vital medical equipment, so that your power return can be prioritised. So, what can you while you wait? * Make sure that your high-power devices (Computer, TV, Consoles) are switched off at the wall to reduce the risk of damage when the power comes back * Make sure that your fridge/freezer door(s) stay closed, so as to reduce the risk of food spoilage and/or electrical damage *If you’re cold: use draft stoppers (even towels stuffed under the doors if you need) and rug up where you need. DO NOT make the mistake of turning on all of the heating elements to heat up your home, no matter how small the living space. This greatly increases the risk of fire, serious injury, and other disastrous consequences. *Make sure you have enough torches/battery/mobile phone battery to use as lights if needed. *Spare battery packs and/or in-car USB charging devices are also options here. Most importantly, don’t panic. Stay informed, check on your neighbours, and if you have any concerns or questions- you can always give us a call on 0412 513 222. We’re available 24/7 for emergencies- COVID or not.
20.01.2022 Ask yourself, is your office literally giving you headaches? Whether it’s the home office, or you’re back to/working in a commercial office space- OH&S is vital, and one of the most frequently missed health and safety measures is adequate lighting. Think about it:... Are you or your team members having difficulty staying focused? Experiencing blurred vision, headaches, fatigue, brain fades? Aside from the fact that life happens; these symptoms are all signs of working under insufficient lighting conditions. So what does this mean? If your team are working in conditions which cause eye strain and other discomforts- your productivity is going to go down, your number of staff sick days will increase, and morale is down. The good news: There’ a simple (and cost effective) solution! Upgrade your lighting, with a simple switch from fluorescent lights to LEDs. Not only will you be able to see better, but your staff will feel better, and productivity and morale will most probably boost accordingly. Plus, they are cheaper to run, easy to adjust, and produce no heat- so they won’t cause a fire in your roof cavities. On top of this, our team pride ourselves on not only turning up on time and sticking to the set budget; but we also clean up thoroughly after ourselves. When was the last time you had a tradie vacuum and tidy afterwards?!? Don’t just take our word for it. 18.01.2022 Certificate of Electrical Safety. As our valued clients will know, all work completed by our team comes with a Certificate of Electrical Safety. But do you know what it is? Or what it's for? I recall a job some years ago, whereby a client had never received the certificate for any previous electrical works, which prompted me- how many people understand why all electrical work MUST come with the certificate.... So here's a rundown: A Certificate of Electrical Safety (COES) is a legally required document of compliance. In essence, it provides proof that all of the electrical work has been undertaken safely, and legally, by a qualified electrician; completing any electrical work on your home. Legally, this must be presented within 30 days of completion of the electrical work(s); and is required also for your house and contents insurance! Without the certificate, some insurance agencies will not cover you - as you cannot provide appropriate evidence that all work was done professionally. It would be horrible to discover that after a housefire, you're (potentially) not covered due to a single piece of paper! Upon completion of all electrical works, not only do our team members clean up, debrief you on what we've done, and provide expertise- we also issue the certificate. This can be done both on paper, as well as electronically; (especially helpful if paper copies get lost or destroyed). We hope this was useful information for you, and remember- if you get electrical work completed and DON'T Get the certificate? Give us a call on 0412 513 222. We can inspect the work, make any repairs (if required), and ensure that you have peace of mind (as well as ensuring all legal requirements are followed). For any electrical questions or tasks around the home or workplace, give us a call for a free quote. 0412 513 222 BRB Electrical. On Time, On Call, On Budget.

16.01.2022 Are you smoke alarms in the right place? It’s well known now, that working smoke alarms save lives. But did you know, that only 11% of Victorian households have the smoke detectors in the optimal positions throughout the house?... Recently, Win News ran a story about the importance of smoke alarms, and some facts regarding housefires including the fact that most fatal housefires start in bedrooms. You can catch the Win News story here: bit.ly/3hwsZrw if you would like to find out more. With most house fires occurring in Winter- it seems timely to remind people to not only check their smoke alarm batteries, and make sure that all smoke alarms are replaced every 10 years (even the battery operated ones): but it’s vital to have them installed in the correct positions and location within the dwelling. While building regulations stipulate that a minimum of 2 smoke alarms are required in a rental property (including at least one in/near a main bedroom)- the best way to help your family is to have multiple smoke alarms: and to have them wired in, and interconnected. While the thought of all alarms going off every time someone burns tea might seem inconvenient, the ability to wake the entire household during an overnight blaze can give a few additional moments for your family members to be alerted, and to get out of the building more quickly- reducing the risk of a fatality. If you’re concerned about fire safety, and not sure if your smoke alarms are in the optimal positions; or simply want to find out more about optimal fire systems, give BRB Electrical a call on 0412 513 222. Proudly servicing Bendigo & surrounds for over 20 years. On Time. On Call. On Budget.
16.01.2022 Why Spring is the perfect time to start preparing your property for this upcoming fire season: Last years’ fire season was catastrophic. With unprecedented dryness and fuel overloads- it was a seriously dangerous mix and one which we don’t ever want to witness again. Thankfully, there are some things you can do now, in order to start preparing your home for the upcoming 2020/2021 fire season.... 1. Clean out your gutters/ roof. It’s amazing how an ember can ignite a house fire. A quick bit of maintenance (performed safely) can make a huge difference (plus, with more wet weather predicted- it’s a great way to prevent overflow). 2. Clear away fallen branches/debris. Did you lose some large branches during the storm fronts recently? Clear them away now, for next Winter’s firewood, as well as fuel reduction. 3. Check for any branches/limbs close to powerlines. If you notice you trees or shrubs growing dangerously close to the powerlines, please call Powercor to have them trimmed back by a professional. Also, if you notice any damage or anything else that doesn’t seem right about the powerlines- definitely give them a call! 4. Clear or tidy up your yard. Any flammable building materials, long grass, or even wooden furniture can be potential fire hazards. A quick spruce up will not only improve the appearance and usability of your yard- but it will reduce the fire risk too. Which brings me to the next point: What do you do with your fallen branches and waste? Maybe you’re planning a burn off to remove fallen branches and grasses? Recycle what green waste you can, with most tips and recycling centres taking all domestic green waste free of charge. However, if you are having a burn off: remember to contact the Burn off register hotline, by calling 1800 668 511 (Permits may also be required). Even though we’re expecting a wetter late Spring/Summer period thanks to the El Nina~ cycle; we mustn’t be complacent. Look out for each other, and prepare for a safer, prosperous 2021. Stay safe out there, and remember, we’re here for any of your electrical needs and happy to help with enquiries and advice. Contact us on 0412 513 222 or email [email protected]
16.01.2022 Have you ever looked at your switchboard? Chances are, most people only check their switchboard if the power goes out, or some appliances stop working. But did you know that a simple monthly test can find any premature electrical problems- potentially preventing housefire?... Once a month, you should do a quick test of your switchboard, to ensure that the safety switch is working - and it literally takes seconds. All you need to do is: 1) go to your switchboard 2) Press the 'TEST' button. When you do this, the 'mains' power switch should immediately switch off. A few seconds later, you can switch the tripped switch back on. What does this show? 1) If your mains switch doesn't automatically switch in less than 1 second- it isn't working, and you require immediate attention. 2) If the switch won't turn back on - call an electrician to find the issue. 3) If multiple switches trip- again- call an electrician, as it is a sign of potential wiring damage. This simple test is great for finding electrical issues- before they cause damage to your house wiring or appliances. If you need any electrical assistance, kindly call our team on 0412 513 222 BRB Electrical have proudly been serving the Bendigo for over 20 years. On Time, On call. On Budget.
14.01.2022 Lighting can really make or break the atmosphere of a beautiful room. From feature chandeliers to dimmer switches, to pendant lighting- there is no shortage of options for your home or office. But what happens when globes keep blowing?... Let’s look at the top 5 reasons why globes blow, and how to fix it. 1. The wattage is simply too high. If you use a globe with too high a voltage for the fixture- you can damage the fitting- through overheating of elements. The simple solution for this- is to check the light fittings and use the recommended globes. If you need any help, ask us, or ask the trade assistants at your local hardware store. 2. Insulation too close to the light> This not only blows your globes- but it also presents a potential safety risk to your home. If you’ve had several globes blow, and in quick succession- you will need to have an electrician inspect the wiring. More typical in older homes (pre-1990s)- if your insulation is too close to the wiring and causing heat issues- you will need to have this addressed urgently to prevent a housefire. 3. Bad wiring Again, more prevalent in older buildings. If the wiring is old, damaged, or is insufficient for the load; then the wiring will need to be replaced. Again, globes blowing is a great indicator of this, as they will tend to go before larger appliances. 4. On dimmer switch: too much wattage on one switch If a dimmer switch is overloaded, it will create a lot of heat- which you can feel brushing your hand past it. While the switches vary in wattage- an easy test it to check. Simply check the wattage of your dimmer switch (say- 600 watt); and then calculate the wattage. For more testing, or advice, give us a call and we’ll come and solve your lighting issues. 5. Poor connection within the circuit (flickering) If your light bulbs are not securely placed within the holder- then arcing can occur- . It’s always good practice to ensure that all bulbs are correctly installed to avoid surges and arcing. Also- don’t be alarmed if it also trips the fuse. If you’re experiencing lighting issues on your home or business; call the team at BRB Electrical on 0412 513 222 for friendly professional service through Bendigo & Surrounds. Our qualified team are proudly on time, on call, and on budget.
14.01.2022 Can you install your own ceiling fan? There is sometimes a temptation to 'do it yourself'; whether it's put up a shed, build a deck, or service your own car. It's not surprising that there are some people who also seem to think that something as easy as install a power point or a ceiling fan should also be able to be a DIY job.... However, you can NOT do your own electrical work. While drilling a few holes in the ceiling and running a few wires seems easy- it's actually fraught with danger- and must only be carried out by a qualified, licensed electrician. There are 3 mains reasons for this: 1. It involves connecting wires to the mains- which in Australia is 240V- enough to fatally electrocute someone if things go wrong. 2. You'll have no insurance. If something goes wrong, or there is a housefire- where the electricals are found to be the cause- you will have no insurance cover at all. Only a licensed electrical contractor can complete and sign off the work- and issue the required certificate of electrical safety. 3. Even if neither of these events happen; if the fan unit itself breaks down or doesn't work- you will have no warranty and be out of pocket. It's just not worth the risk. We have a local, professional team available- all you need to do is call BRB Electrical on 0412 513 222 or email us at [email protected] We work in with your schedule, stick to budget, and do all of the cleaning up (so there's no plaster dust left behind). So if you're planning on installing or replacing a ceiling fan, dimmer switches, power points, or any other electrical connection- give us a call. BRB Electrical. On time. On call. On budget.

12.01.2022 SURGE PROTECTION: WHAT IT IS, AND HOW IT WORKS Wow! Didn’t the weather turn across the state! In keeping with last week’s blog on whether you should turn off appliances during large storms (such as last night); Here is some clarity regarding surge protection, what it is, and why it’s important.... Put simply, surge protectors are small devices, built into appliances to protect them from damage in the event of a small power surge. Australian appliances run on 240V, and any voltage over this amount is enough to trip the surge protectors. How they work: Basically, anything over 240V going through the device will set off the surge protection, in order to stop the wiring and other components getting fried. They are however, not strong enough to withstand a lighting strike: so you still need to unplug them in severe storm conditions. Rather, they protect your devices from smaller surges which can occur quiet often in modern technology. It does this be redirecting excess voltage to a grounding wire, allowing for electrical runoff to be safely redirected, protecting your appliances. Thankfully, many newer power boards and plugs have surge/power override protection built in. If you have high value/high voltage appliances (such as your laptop, smart TV, and gaming consoles), then you should use surge protection (if it’s not already built in). Smaller devices (such as a kids’ nightlight or baby monitor) do not require the same level of protection. Couple this with safety switches to cut off electrical supply instantaneously in the event of an emergency; simple advances in technology help keep you (and your appliances) safe. If you have any questions about electrical protection, have constant power flickering or similar, give the team at BRB Electrical a call on 0412 513 222. We’re on time, on call, and on budget; and available 24/7 for emergencies.
11.01.2022 Did you know that leaving appliances plugged in and on ‘standby’ can make a big difference to your power bill? Lately, we’ve been looking at ways in which you can reduce your bills, from efficient heating options, to lightbulbs and fittings, through to solar. Did you know there are easy ways in which you can reduce your bills even further? Do you ever leave power points and appliances on ‘standby’?... This standby power (also known as ‘phantom load’) can really impact your usage- accounting for up to 10% of bills (according to CANSTAR). Certain items consume more than others: Wi-Fi modems, and gaming consoles (such as Xbox or PlayStation); washing machines, and dryers, and dishwashers accounting for over $65 dollars per year in wasted electricity. TVs, DVDs, alarms, and toasters/small appliances also use a notable amount of phantom electricity- but not at the same levels of larger devices. So, how can you reduce standby energy costs? Think of standby electricity as a leaky tap. Even if it doesn’t bother you, it’s still a complete waste that you should try to mitigate. Here are a few simple tips to reduce your standby electricity wastage: Turn off appliances at the wall: This one is pretty self-explanatory and is a widely practised way to save on energy. Switching off appliances at the point is a guaranteed way to ensure your electricity bill isn’t inflated by phantom load. Smart boards: Some electricity boards are able to detect when an appliance has entered standby mode and will cut its electricity feed entirely. It will also detect when you’re trying to turn the device back on and recommence its feed of electricity. Energy efficient models: The energy efficiency star ratings system is intended to indicate electricity usage running costs, but it also helps provides a useful guide to standby costs. The more energy efficient an appliance is, the less electricity it will use on standby. Adjust standby settings: You can modify the settings on some smart televisions and smart consoles to minimise their standby functionality. Use this to stop them from scanning for Wi-Fi when on standby. It might seem like an inconvenience to turn appliances off at the wall or change a few device settings- but the savings could well be worth it. Even a saving of a few dollars per day quickly adds up to over $730 per year- and I would LOVE to save that off my bills! For more energy saving tips, or to identify and fi any usage spikes in your bills, call the team at BRB Electrical on 0412 513 222. 09.01.2022 Is it worth having Solar in Winter? You’d be surprised by how effective Solar Panels are at generating electricity in Winter! As you know, utilities bills increase quiet a bit during Winter, with heating, increased time indoors, etc. And bill shock can be highly detrimental to many households- especially during COVID-19. So can Solar actually help? And how?... To answer this, it’s important to understand how solar panels work. Contrary to popular belief, they don’t go by the amount of heat from the sun, but rather by LUX. The light itself is what is used to generate the electricity, so even on an overcast day, your solar panels will still be generating electricity. In some cases, they can even generate more! Especially if the sun is reflecting off the low cloud cover. It’s overcast as I write this, and our system is currently generating over 4500kW of power. Yes, it goes up to 9,800kW in the middle of the day in the Summer; but it’s still enough to boil a kettle, run every light in the household, and make quite a dint in the power bill. Upon consultation, our expert team member, Lee, will explain how they work, how and why we angle and position the panels for optimal generation, as well as handling all of your questions for optimal care over the lifetime of your panels. Solar is an investment, and greatly impacts not only your bills, but also your carbon footprint. To find out more, call us today on 0412 513 222 or email [email protected]

05.01.2022 Stay cool this weekend! While many of you might be heading off for the long weekend, it’s sure to be a scorcher wherever you go! There are a few ways to stay comfortable this weekend- many of which won’t break the bank.... 1. Draw the curtains/blinds. The less heat that comes in, the less heat you have to dissipate. 2. Set the temperature on your reverse cycle to a comfortable level, as oppose to cool. Did you know that every degree difference increases your electricity bill? Setting your thermostat to approx. 24 degrees will mean your system doesn’t have to work so hard, thus reducing your bill. 3. Do you need the air conditioning on flat out? Ceiling fans are another great alternative that can also make the temperature more comfortable, often with less power usage. Of course, if you have issues with your fans or air conditioning, we are here for you 24/7, including the public holidays- for all emergencies; and we can readily come to you to help solve your electrical issues. Simply call our friendly team on 0412 513 222. Stay safe this weekend. Stay indoors if you can; and pay attention to the fire danger ratings near you.

03.01.2022 Should I turn off my TV during a storm? Does anyone remember your parents or grandparents telling you to turn off the TV/stereo or other major appliances during a big storm? With wild weather forecast for this weekend, it seems timely to look at whether this is sound advice, or just an old wives’ tale. For the majority of appliances, yes. They should be turned off. Not that you will be in danger, but there’s a high risk of damage to your electrical systems.... Let’s look at the damage which storms (and subsequent power surges) can cause to your electrical appliances. Typically, the damage occurs in three ways: 1. Full loss of power/ blackout. 2. Your appliances overheat/suffer damage due to repeatedly turning on and off at a fast rate 3. In some instances, a surge can destroy your device- even without a direct lightning strike to the home. Even with a surge protector in use, the power board on your Smart TV can still be destroyed. While we’ve come a long way in electrical safety, with surge protectors and safety switches- no system is 100% foolproof. So there you are. If the storms around your home or business are getting stronger- it’s time to turn off your tv/unplug your computer, etc, to reduce damage and save money. Remember, BRB Electrical are available 24/7 for emergencies, so if you do lose power give us a call on 0412 513 222. Stay safe!
02.01.2022 First of all, a huge thank you to all of our clients, for your continuous support. There seems to be some confusion and understandable anxiety surrounding COVID-19. As part of a larger community effort, here’s a few safety measures we’re practicing to reduce the risk of community transmission as we continue to serve the local community.... Practical measures include: Ensuring social distancing as much as possible while on the job (including quotes) We supply our staff with relevant PPE, including gloves and masks to reduce the risk of contact transmission If are staff are unwell, showing symptoms, or waiting for the results of testing: we will reschedule your appointment, with another staff member. Any staff displaying symptoms are requested to get checked- even if it turns out to be just the common cold. We service clients within 50km of the Fountain in Bendigo; and are not currently taking service calls within lockdown zones. Our thoughts are with those impacted by the current restrictions. In return, we ask that you let us know if you or anyone in your household/workplace has any symptoms or awaiting test results; or has had contact with a confirmed case. Your privacy will absolutely be respected; and we will endeavour to complete your work within safety parameters. Stay safe everyone. And thank you again for supporting a local business during this time. Cheers, Sam
02.01.2022 With reports that some companies have still continued door knocking in Victoria (including the Central Victorian Goldfields region)- I had to share the below statement from the clean energy council. Here at BRB Electrical, we pride ourselves in delivering A1 service for both solar and electrical- with no door knocking. Let’s keep Victorians safe.... ---------------------------------------- We are living through unprecedented times as COVID-19 continues to impact our work and lives in ways we did not expect. With a significant jump in cases, increased community transmission and a return to stage 3 restrictions in some parts of Victoria, it's vital that we all do everything we can to stop the spread of the virus. Door knocking is considered by health authorities to be a high-risk activity, businesses that continue to do it put peoples safety at risk. If your business is door knocking, stop now. Door knocking puts workers and customers at risk. It also increases the risk of solar being included in any new restrictions and could cause an industry-wide shutdown. Do the right thing and review your sales practices today. Make sure you manage the risk of COVID-19 to yourself and your colleagues by following our advice for solar workers on site. A list of resources for businesses impacted by COVID-19 can be found on out website [https://www.cleanenergycouncil.org.au//resources-for-busin ]
02.01.2022 Is your pool pump or river pump playing up? This could be why! Recently, we had a callout to a property where the river pump was repeatedly cutting out. Plumbers had already ascertained that it wasn’t a pipe issue; so we were called to have a look at the motor.... When we arrived, we noticed that the safety switch had been tripped; so we check out the motor, and low and behold, the capacitors were both completely fried! While capacitors overheating a swelling up is a fairly standard occurrence, it’s been a while once we’ve seen one this busted! For those of you playing at home, a capacitor is an electronic device that stores energy. With most simple pumps (such as river pumps, bores and pool pumps); the capacitor provides an electrical boost to start the motor. In this situation, it was a simple replacement job; however if it weren’t for the overheating and safety switches, the outcome could have been very different! If your pump keeps cutting out; it could be an overheating issue; which without adequate safety measures can cause fires. If you’re having similar issues, call our expert team on 0412 513 222. We’re proudly on time, on call, and on budget; servicing Bendigo and surrounds for over 20 years.
02.01.2022 Modifying your bathroom on a budget? Here's why you shouldn’t skip over the electrical components. Bathroom renovations can vastly increase the value of your property, as well as make your home much more enjoyable to live in, with improved functionality and style. If you’re planning to renovate- you’re no doubt thinking about the tiles, vanity, shower or bath; but have you thought about the electricals?... Whether you’re looking at new lighting, IXLTastics, heated towel rails, power points, or even wiring for a spa bath: factoring in these works in the planning stages will save you a lot of time and stress in the long run. It is so much more cost effective to re-do or alter the electrical wiring of any room in the home during the renovation stage- as opposed to later. Besides- who wants their beautiful tiles removed or touched up; or a room replastered and needed to be repainted when it could easily be avoided? Being locally owned and proudly servicing Bendigo for over 20 years, we work well with other local trades, so there’s less downtime for you in the long run. If you’re planning a renovation, and needing reliable tradies who stick to their quotes (and timeframes); then give the team at BRB Electrical a call on 0412 513 222 for a great quote and helpful advice to help your renovation run smoothly. On Time. On Call. On Budget
02.01.2022 "Are there any electrical checks I should be doing?" Here are BRB Electrical, we are available 24/7 for emergencies. Did you know that there are some simple routine checks you can do around your home to possibly prevent emergency situations?... There are 3 main checks you should ideally do every month, as well as ad hoc checks. The main three are: 1. Test your Smoke Alarm. Just a simple press of the button or a few seconds, once a month. Replace your battery if needed (at least every 6 months). Remember to replace smoke alarms every 10 years. *if a wired-in smoke alarm isn’t working (and it’s wired in)- give us a call to get it replaced as a priority. 2. Test your Carbon Monoxide Alarm While not everyone has these fitted- these life-saving devices should be tested in the same way as your smoke alarms. 3. Mains Switchboard Once a month, go over to your mains box, and hit the ‘test’ button. The mains should switch off automatically. If they don’t- give us a call, so we can get it fixed. Circuit breakers and safety switches must be in good working order. If they’re not, it’s an urgent matter. As far as ‘ad hoc’ tests; just observe the condition of your wiring and switches when using them. - Are your plugs and wires in good safe working order, with not exposed wiring? - Do your plugs seal properly when you plug in an appliance (kettle, microwave, tv) - Have your extension leads been tested? Are they in good working order? By keeping an eye on the state of your electrical goods, and by routinely checking your wiring, you can easily pick up electrical problems before they become catastrophic. Prevention is always better than cure. So please, get in the habit of doing a quick monthly check, and if you notice anything, or have any questions- call us on 0412 513 222. Stay safe everyone.
