25.01.2022 The kiddies love our new mud kitchen! It's been on my wish list for a while now, I think I'm as excited as they are! So much potential for messy play and pretend play

25.01.2022 Washing our farm animals after some oats sensory/small world play #familydaycare #familydaycareaustralia #fdcfamily

24.01.2022 The kids love to water the garden, and we found a great way to make the water (and the fun) last longer than with a watering can, as well as build those fine motor skills, finger/hand strength, hand-eye coordination and understanding of cause and effect. While it was easier to use their thumbs on the triggers, and provided lots of giggles at the surprise spray to their faces they quickly mastered the skill of the spray bottle and have been giving our snapdragons a good drink

24.01.2022 A few highlights from our week The kiddies loved our farm small world, which led into some great play within the enclosing schema! We quickly extended on this with containers of various sizes and textures, as well as some fun things to fill them with (including themselves!) Our oats sensory tray was a great opportunity to practice our fine motor skills, hand eye coordination and maths skills - volume! ... We also made our own stained glass window on our brand new sliding glass door - all you need is a spray bottle and squares of cellophane, how beautiful!

23.01.2022 Babies! We’re all about babies right now, especially with one of our friends becoming a big sister last week! We had lots of invitations to play around baby activities, including dressing, feeding, cleaning, and even some spontaneous dancing and cuddles to music ... Our friends are all so nurturing and it’s so lovely to see them embrace this play and learning with such ease.

23.01.2022 Today is Early Childhood Educators Day 2020! I actually didn’t know this before today, but that only made the sweet surprise from one of my beautiful families even sweeter delicious home made cookies with lots of yummy choccies and add ins chosen by the child themselves! Thank you to all the other Educators who inspire me regularly, and make me proud to work in Early Childhood Education. ... #familydaycareaustralia #fdc #earlychildhoodeducatorsday

22.01.2022 Watching friendships develop as children grow with each other is so rewarding! These two making each other belly laugh all day was a highlight today Friendships, starting in the toddler stage, help children feel good about themselves, build self confidence and self esteem, support their social and emotional development, as well as helping them learn more about themselves and develop their identity. #friends #familydaycare #friendship #laughter

21.01.2022 This week is NAIDOC Week, and while celebrations have been moved to November this year due to social distancing, we still celebrated in our own way. Our littlies made handprints of the Aboriginal flag, and our book for the week is Tom Tom, a great story about a day in the life of an aboriginal preschool boy, with beautiful illustrations for the kids to look at and discuss.

21.01.2022 It’s time for some Halloweeeeeeen fun at BRD! Witch’s Brew! Today we used recipe cards to make our very own Witch’s Brew, adding spiders, frogs, cotton tails and more to our mix! This was a great activity for many skills, including number recognition, counting, fine motor skills, scooping, pouring, and following a list/set of instructions. The kids have thoroughly enjoyed this through the day, and extended the play in lots of different ways showing great creativity!

20.01.2022 A swamp small world this week, the magnifying glasses created some great scientific conversation and discovery around what happens when it’s close to the frog, or far away! As well as seeing the unusual world through the glass Fantastic learning through play #familydaycare #swamp #investigate #learningthroughplay

16.01.2022 Such a fantastic week at Big Red Door, here are a few of my favourite moments... The kiddies tend to move together through the spaces, including quiet moments. It’s so lovely to see them find a comfy spot for a book next to each other! Creativity when using a toy, our doll house became a ramp! So we made a game of it and used a basket to catch the pieces at the bottom. ... We made play dough together this week, we had lots of messy fun with flour and scooping and mixing in the colours! This invitation to play was put out during nap time, so a fun surprise when they woke up look at those keen little mitts! So thankful for our lovely outdoor space, so green and full of interesting life right now. And I especially love seeing different ages of children play together, one of the huge benefits of family day care! So many squeals and giggles from kids enjoying each other Happy weekend everyone!

15.01.2022 Our littlies thoroughly enjoyed our water play on this rainy week, their favourite activity for sure...and I just couldn’t go past how beautiful that colour mixing looks!

10.01.2022 In July, our theme is 'Where do you sleep?' This week, we're acting out our favourite book 'The Very Cranky Bear' by Nick Bland. We started by creating a cave with a recycled box, some paint and paper shapes! After the paint dried, we set up our scene, and read the book while playing out the story with the characters we love. ... We even got to fill a cotton bag with some wool for under Bear's head #bigreddoorfamilydaycare #familydaycareaustralia #familydaycare #theverycrankybear

07.01.2022 So glad to be back at it for the new year Our first week back was loads of fun, including this Dino defrost! The kiddies loved feeling the cold ice and water on a hot day, and tried lots of different ways to make the ice melt quicker to retrieve the dinosaurs a great sensory experience!

06.01.2022 Tomorrow is Teddy Bear Picnic Day! While the wet weather changed our plans a little, we still enjoyed a cozy picnic inside, looking out of the big bay windows to the front yard and trees outside. The kids even helped cut their own fruit to enjoy, great life skills in practice

05.01.2022 Our float and sink tub today for some science and water fun lots of great conversation around why the different items floated or sunk, especially the two spoons that were made from different stuff, so did different things! A mix of natural and man made items to keep children connected to nature as always To stay water conscious we used the water afterwards to feed our plants, and talked about why it’s important not to waste water #fdc #familydaycare #floatandsinktub #earlychildhood #science #playbasedlearning

We made salt dough pendants and threaded them to make necklaces, painted pots for an at-home gardening activity with our mums and grandmas, traced our hands to make a flower card, and even decorated the gift bags with stickers! So many great fine motor activities for the kids to practice while learning through play.

02.01.2022 This week we had lots of craft fun for both Remembrance Day and the official NAIDOC Week of 2020.
