25.01.2022 There’s nothing fishy about IDing this fish The QLD Fishing 2.0 app was recently released to help identify catch using the app's fish recognition technology... and we think it’s fin-tastic! The app not only helps you ID the fish you’ve caught, but can also be used to: See the fishing rules in any location with the ‘Can I Fish Here’ feature Learn more about the catch, such as approximate age based on the fish size entered in the app Receive Fisheries Queensland notifications including reminders about upcoming fishing closures You can download the Department of Agriculture, Fisheries and Forestry's free app by searching ‘Qld Fishing 2.0’ in the App Store or via Google Play.

24.01.2022 You don’t have to have previous knowledge or experience of the marine rescue environment to become part of the Australian Volunteer Coast Guard team. Volunteering with Coast Guard can take many forms, from vessel crews and coxswains, to radio operators or administrative staff. Volunteers respond to a variety of incident types, from ensuring people onboard a disabled vessel are returned safely to shore, searching for those missing at sea, to medical or other major emergencies. If you would like to know more about a rewarding volunteer career with Coast Guard, or to find out how to apply, contact your local Coast Guard Flotilla. https://coastguard.com.au/volunteer/ Our local Coastguard here in Townsville is Townsville Coast Guard QF8 and their website is at>>> https://coastguard.com.au/flotilla/qf8-townsville/

22.01.2022 Catch of the Day You're the trawler skipper and the net feels heavy. This is going to be a good haul. Well it was - just not what he was expecting. Remember in ...August when we rescued the two fishermen whose boat sank 20 nautical miles off Mooloolaba? Bet they thought they'd never see it again. Well not until the trawler's catch of the day was their boat. Hauled up, refloated and brought back to Mooloolaba, it now sits a bit the worse for wear at the Water Police pontoon. What are the odds of that happening?

21.01.2022 First we have whales in Kakadu, now killer whales in Weipa???! What else is coming 2020?

15.01.2022 Did you know SunSmart has a new app? The free app tells you when sun protection is recommended for your location using forecast information from the Bureau of Meteorology website and live UV data from ARPANSA. Head to the Sunsmart Website to download the app. Melanomas are the most dangerous type of skin cancer. Sunsmart's Melanoma Risk Predictor is designed to provide an estimation of a person's risk of developing melanoma over the next 3.5 years, however, not intended to be used as a substitute for your doctor's advice and only relevant to our Australian climate. 15.01.2022 A ship has been badly damaged in a storm and things don’t look good. The crew assembles on the deck and the captain shouts over the howling wind, Men, it’s bad. The helm is broken off, we have three huge holes, I really don’t see this beauty making it to the shore. Is there anyone among you who knows how to pray? Paul steps up and says, I can, and I will, captain! Excellent, you do that! shouts the captain. Now the rest of you..... put on your life jackets, we were missing one.

14.01.2022 What's a boating superstition you believe?

13.01.2022 Do you follow local Weather Pages or prefer to stick to the mainstream pages like Bureau of Meteorology? State-based and locally-based weather pages like Wally's Weather can present vast differences in weather forecasts predicted for for that day. It's good practice to check a variety of sources, but even better to be fully prepared before you may need to. With summer squalls & storms in mind, if a weather system was to arrive this afternoon, is your boat prepared for unpredictable gusty winds and heavy rain? Do you have hatches shut, loose items like cushions stowed, tarps secured? #prepareearly #stormseason #summer #tropicalnorthqueensland

11.01.2022 Hi all Today at 11am the guys from Boat State and First Mate will be holding an open day on the fuel loading warf at the breakwater marina showing everyone how... their new Keel Crab works. Pretty cool product so we thought teaming up with them we would allow the use of Audacity our 3700 Kevla cat to be on show. Now even if you don't have a berthed boat but want to see what Audacity looks like then feel free to come down and have a look over and run round on our fishing dancefloor. The cabin will be locked and surveillance on but we are happy for all to come on and have a look over her if wanting. Adam will be there on and off as well as Russell from Boat State and First Mate will be there if any questions about either products. Cheers See more

That's more than 500 times the number ...of stars in the Milky Way! Scientists have found these plastic particles literally everywhere, in our waterways, the food we eat, and even the air that we breathe! Exactly how ingesting microplastics affects our health is still unclear, but it definitely can't be good! It's time to hold corps accountable and #breakfreefromplastic! @sadanduselesscom via IG / UN News
