15.01.2022 October is Breast cancer awareness month. Unfortunately Covid-19 has disrupted regular routines and good habits. According to Breast screen Australia the numbers of women having mammograms has greatly decreased and I would imagine that monthly self breast checks may have been neglected also. Please do not neglect these most important potentially life saving breast cancer detection procedures. If you are not doing monthly self breast checks now is a good time to start. 14.01.2022 Due to recent events I want to revisit a topic I wrote about in an earlier post. I have been working with women affected by breast cancer for 20 years and it still upsets me when I hear that women are still losing their breast and lives to breast cancer. In 2013 I founded BreastAware Australia which educates women on the importance of self breast checks in the fight against breast cancer as early detection saves lives. It’s not until someone close to you has been diagnosed wi...th breast cancer and is about to lose her breast in the effort to save her life that you truly realize what an enormous impact this has on them and also on their family and friends. Even with all my years of experience with women and breast cancer I am still overwhelmed and shocked at the increasing number of women being diagnosed and even more so the increasing number of younger women between 20 and 40 years of age, Ladies If I can give you just one piece of advice that you can act on is please check your breast regularly for any visual signs of change or abnormalities in shape or size, feel for unusual lumps or bumps. Most women are unsure of how to check and not sure what they are looking for. Understanding your breast and what is normal for you, what is breast cancer, and how it can affect you, are questions we all want to know. Find the answers to these and all you want to know about breasts at one of our free Breastaware workshops. Go to our the breastaware website for information on how to book your workshop www.breastawareaustralia.com.au #checkyourbreasts #earlydetectionsaveslives #breastaware #cancersucks See more

14.01.2022 Breast cancer is not only a women's disease. One percent of all BC diagnosis are men. We know our men folk are not the best at having check ups so Ladies remind all the Men in your family not to ignore any change they may see or feel in their breast or chest.

13.01.2022 The committee of Breastaware Australia wish to thank Brendan Sheedy and the Illawarra Baseball League team for organizing this fabulous Mothers Day weekend event. This year the IBL has joined Breast Aware Australia to raise much needed funds and importantly to profile how early detection can saves the lives of women and men. The IBL consists of seven (7) baseball clubs all over the Illawarra and in the Shoalhaven. Each club’s top graded team will be wearing a commemorative ...PINK round Baseball Cap in recognition of the event. All of the IBL games scheduled for the weekend will be held at Fred Finch Park, Berkeley. Breast Aware Australia will be holding a community information booth at the ground on both the 11th & 12th May 2019. so pop in and say hello. #breastawareaustralia #earlydetection #checkyourbreasts

08.01.2022 On behalf of the "Breastaware Australia" Committee I wish to express our enormous gratitude to the Illawarra Baseball League and President Dale Jenkins for their amazing contribution to breast cancer awareness with the "Pink Round" Mothers Day Weekend resulting in a generous donation totaling $4500 to Breastaware Australia. This money will go towards creating an educational video on breast cancer prevention, the importance of early detection and a step by step tutorial on how to do a self breast check. I especially want to say thank you to Brendan Sheedy for his creative vision in initiating the idea and all the hard work and effort he put into this event. We look forward to "Pink Round" 2020. Together we can make a difference. Thank you again. #ibl #pinkround #breastawareaustralia #earlydetection #checkyourbreasts

02.01.2022 Received this lovely letter from one of the ladies that attended the I AM WOMEN Health Forum last month. Thank you Susan for your wonderful feedback. I was thrilled to read your encouraging words. We are so excited with how successful our event was and now looking forward to planing 2019 Event. Letter from Suzan D'Lima Hello Maralyn... I had the pleasure of accompanying my beautiful friend Jenny Breust to your Breast Aware Seminar on Sunday. I wanted to write and tell you how much I enjoyed it and to congratulate you and your team for pulling together such a fantastic event. I have been to a number of breast cancer information sessions during the past year and I can honestly say that yours was by far the most informative, useful and comprehensive I've seen. Furthermore, it was an incredibly positive, life-affirming experience. I can't thank you enough. The calibre of speakers on Sunday was first-class, the energy in the room was so supportive and caring and the singers and models who took to the stage were truly inspiring. I told Jenny that I went home feeling very hopeful and uplifted and that's a wonderful achievement, especially when we are talking about such a serious subject. Having been through my own breast cancer 'misadventure' in the last 12 months I am massively grateful for, and humbled by, the efforts of women such as yourself who work tirelessly to raise awareness and encourage others to be proactive in managing their health. Thank you again for such a fabulous day and for all that you do. Warmest regards - Suzan D'Lima
