25.01.2022 Torticollis is a tightness in the neck muscles that pull to one side on the babys lower jaw. This condition can cause nipple pain, latching difficulties, and l...ess efficient feeding. If your baby consistently prefers to turn his head only one direction, torticollis may be playing a role. Did your baby have torticollis which impacted nursing? 15.01.2022 Happy World Breastfeeding week! There are lots of ways to breastfeed!

14.01.2022 Its Red Nose Day this Friday, so each day this week I will be posting about safe sleeping. As a Midwife, Mum and Child Sleep Consultant its my role to en...sure families understand the importance around safe sleeping. . My first post is on beanies & hats..... Its very important to keep your babys head uncovered during sleep. Babys actually cool themselves down through their head and faces, and can quickly overheat if they fall asleep wearing a beanie, hat, bonnet or hooded clothing. Headwear in bed can also become a suffocation or choking hazard. @rednoseaustralia . #sids #sidsandkids #rednose #safesleeping#babies #baby #safesleep #midwife #childsleepconsultant #beanies #temperature #temperatureregulation #mumsinbusiness #mums #dads #parents #mumsofinstagram #dadsofinstagram See more

12.01.2022 Why is positioning and attachment so important in breastfeeding? If your baby is attached well, they can remove more milk from your breast and are less likely ...to damage your nipples. 12.01.2022 #Repost The Breastfeeding Dietitian HOW TO HAND EXPRESS YOUR BREASTMILK. A handy (heh pun intended!) skill for all breastfeeding mothers. It can boost your conf...idence and comfort with your milk-making abilities and helps to stimulate your supply. . . Have your fingers placed away from your nipple more near where your milk-making sacs are (those grapes - dont know what Im talking about? Head a ways back on my for my grapes post). This can be about an inch back from your areola, but depending on the size of your areola it could be different for you! . . Then get expressing! 1Press back INTO breast. 2Then compress. . . You dont need to rub your fingers along your skin towards your nipple either. This just hurts. The purpose of hand expression is to move the milk out of the sacs and towards the nipple by just compressing the sacs. . . Other tips: Massage your breasts before you start to loosen the milk from the milk-making sacs, so it can more easily be moved out. Start in the C-hold position for ease, but move around to get at different milk making sacs! You may not get milk right away, and may take a few compresses - with each compress the milk moves closer towards the nipple. If you are hand expressing colostrum (when it is very small volumes and thicker and stickier milk), there will sometimes be just drops at a time! Thats normal and okay! If you are hand expressing antenatally (at the end of your pregnancy), you may not be able to express any at first - this has no weight to your milk production! Milk is there and just takes time and practice to hand express some. . . Do you hand express? What was your experience? Let me know in the comments! . . #breastfeedingmama #feedingondemand #thebreastfeedingdietitian #supportisbest #informedisbest #breastfeedingsupport #breastfeedinghelp #momlife #sahmomlife #newmomlife #newmom #37weekspregnant #38weekspregnant #handexpression #colostrum #newbaby #increasingsupply See more

10.01.2022 Baby falling asleep on the breast? This is normal. Breastmilk contains a hormone which makes a mother and her baby sleepy helping you both get back to sleep. Read more on sleep and breastfeeding here https://www.breastfeeding.asn.au/bf-info/sleep

10.01.2022 Did you know that when a mother comes into contact with germs in her environment, she makes antibodies to fight those germs? These antibodies pass into the brea...stmilk and therefore on to the baby. Since a mother and her baby are generally in contact with the same germs, this helps protect her baby from the illnesses they are both exposed to. Breastmilk contains many factors that help support a babys immune system. A mother passes on lots of proteins, fats, sugars and cells that work against infections when she breastfeeds her baby (e.g. antibodies, white blood cells, lactoferrin, lysozyme, oligosaccharides, probiotics and prebiotics). More information here https://aba.asn.au/babyimmunity

09.01.2022 The nights are getting chilly here in Australia and its important our little ones are dressed for the right temperature. Think one more layer then what you w...ould be wearing. Did you know our body temperature is actually at its hottest around 10pm at night and at its coldest around 3-4am in the morning (which is when its the coldest temp outside). A great way to tell the temperature of your little ones room is by using a Gro Egg, this amazing device has been my go to for both my girls and it makes it so much easier to know what to dress them in. #sleep #winter #earlywakings #cold #sleep #littleones #childsleepconsultant #midwife #mum #babies #infants #toddlers #preschoolers #sleepskills #sleeptips #sleeptight #healthysleep See more

07.01.2022 BABY FACT >>> Your babys sense of taste begins to develop while still in the womb. __________________________________________ By 9 weeks of pregnancy, th...e babys mouth and tongue have developed and so have the first tastebuds! While surrounded by amniotic fluid the baby will naturally breathe and swallow it. This supports the development of the digestive system and the lungs. The flavors in the foods you eat will pass through your bloodstream and into the amniotic fluid where your baby can taste and also smell them! This is their first experience of different flavors. Newborn babies are born with very sensitive tastebuds that can differentiate between sweet and sour tastes. They prefer the sweet taste, which is why they love the taste of breast milk. Breast milk is very sweet with 10 times the amount of lactose (milk sugar) as cows milk! Babies do not develop the taste for salty flavors until around 5 months of age. It is not true that flavorful or spicy foods are not okay to eat while pregnant or breastfeeding, as well as all vegetables. It is important to continue to eat a wide variety of foods as this is a critical time in your babys taste bud development.
