22.01.2022 The infamous Peter Faust Dam crocodile has been relocated here to Bredl’s Wild Farm. You may have caught the headline on the news also, with a lovely picture of Jack holding the croc....who was not the one to catch the crocodile, he just loves the media attention and wanted to be on the TV AGAIN!! We also know, the only thing Jack is good at catching is..........a cold!

19.01.2022 The Federal governments $94 million Wildlife Exhibitor relief package is proving to be nothing more than a stunt to look like the federal government cares. On ...Tuesday the 28th April WEN sought clarification from Minister Littleproud about who would be eligible, WEN spoke about the industry and its size. Minister Littleproud called Sussan Ley and received confirmation that all licensed exhibitors were eligible and referenced in his press conference that all exhibitors who are members of ZAA or WEN would be eligible. WEN also did a further interview where he was in attendance and agreed that all exhibitors - Zoos, Mobile Exhibitors, Circuses and Magicians would be eligible and that the only exclusions were rescue groups. This was broadcast live on ABC News and we communicated it back to our members. As the day went on other messages were given out by other MP’s, things like you can only be invited to receive it from ZAA, that you must be a traditional zoo and that only ZAA Zoo’s will be eligible. This was different to what Minister Littleproud said on Minister Ley’s advise. To only offer it to zoos in ZAA or even only to traditional wildlife exhibitors will alienate more than 80% of the industry and not provide relief in line with marketed intent of the grant. Senator Birminghams Office have confirmed that Welfare of Animals is a byproduct of this package designed to safeguard businesses that attract Interstate and International visitors to regions. This was never intended to support Wildlife Exhibitors across Australia. They have stated only Zoo’s open to the public will be eligible, these Zoo’s need to be nominated by their State Tourism Body as contributing a significant portion to attracting interstate or international tourists. ZAA is the only association outside of Tourism Bodies that will be able to nominate a facility - but only to the tourism body. This does mean that some fixed exhibitors who believe they meet the criteria may not meet the criteria based on the discretion of a state tourism body. Birminghams office have confirmed that if any other state neglects to support the rest of the industry then the federal government has no responsibility to step in. It has also been revealed that Government Facilities will receive the funding from the package if they are a business that supports itself and the (state or local) government doesn't have to support entirely at 100% trading. If they do support a portion annually, say 10%, then they will only be eligible to 90% of their expenses reimbursed. So over-all the rest if the industry still gets left behind, regardless of their contribution to events and tourism in the regions they operate. There may also be fixed exhibitors left behind as well. The only facilities that will really benefit from this will be the ones in the public eye already - and many of those would have turnovers over $50mil or be supported by large corporations. WEN advised ZAA that pursuing a grant around tourism does not suit the whole of the industry, including some of their own members. Sussan Ley’s office have not yet returned any requests for clarification as to how then intend to facilitate relief to the rest of the industry, inline with Minister Ley’s comments. WEN continue to pursue avenues with the states for support, but as the Federal Government advised, during the 3 week development period of the perceived assistance grant for the entire industry not one State picked up a cheque book to support in. Wildlife Exhibitors in all facets require support now, they all adhere to the same high standards as defined by state bodies, and all contribute to not only tourism, but education as well.

17.01.2022 WE HAVE DONE IT! We have received confirmation from David Littleproud MP and Sussan Ley MP that all wildlife exhibitors will be included in the $94 million pack...age announced last night.
