24.01.2022 Whats more important to you throughout your learn to swim experience? If you find a teacher that can build a relationship with your child quickly and create a fun atmosphere where the child can play, explore and hopefully learn something then youve got yourself a winner. Although knowledge is pretty important, right!?

24.01.2022 Tragic circumstances. I cannot begin to imagine what the family must be going through. Love and prayers for both kids that they pull through with a full recovery. Doing this job for close to 14 years I wonder what more we can do as an industry to help minimise any family going through such a F horror situation. ... Swimming lessons are the first step but surely this cannot be the only one. What is it that we are missing?? What more can we do to teach our children to become so aware of the dangers around water that they give it a second thought. Swim schools have the obligation to maintain their high standards of teaching so we can be confident that our children can both enjoy and be safe around water.

22.01.2022 Learning from the best. Lisa Ellwood ..the boys have skills.

22.01.2022 Whether youre 3 or 63, the learn to swim principles remain the same. Any first introduction to the water is about understanding the environment. Call it what you like Water Familiarisation is one. When we know the depth, where the steps are, can I walk, can I stand up this all contributes to our overall confidence around the water. This in turn lays the foundation for everything else.... Second is Breath Control. Depending on the age this approach can range from pouring water over the face to putting your face in the water. A lot of people teach bubbles which is great but if you dont teach someone to hold their breath first - you miss out in extending that independent swim underwater. Next? Floating and Floating. Yes, twice. Teaching buoyancy is key to everything learn to swim. Learning to relax and letting the buoyancy take over allows you to hold your breath longer and coordinate arms and legs easier. A step Ive seen some of the most experienced teachers skip. Now we understand the environment | we can hold our breath | we can float.. Propulsion. Learn how to move through the water. Kicking and arm drills are great but remember the aim is relax and not fight through the water. Each one of these skills needs a certain approach depending on the age but the order remains the same. There are multiple different ways to achieve these goals but it takes repetition and understanding the process to ensure success over the shortest period of time.

21.01.2022 So sometimes its a little unclear on the Why. When I started in my learn to swim education journey the goal was to learn as much as possible in the shortest period of time. I started to understand the knowledge and planning behind a great lesson but I still hadnt gathered enough hands-on experience so, I wanted to shadow the teachers and watch and learn! Soon realised that some teachers were just following the same mundane process (sometimes the same lesson every week) bu...t very few were consistently pushing the education on the parents on the >> why << theyre doing certain skills. Once parents are educated on my plan of action it makes practice time 10x more effective. Enjoy the process.

17.01.2022 What's up! Breeswim will be back for Term 4 from Tuesday 6th October 2020. The term will run for a total of 10 weeks. 17.01.2022 Most swim schools offer two different forms of lessons term lessons and intensive holiday courses. Which one is better? Term Programs ... Swimming lessons take place during school term time usually in a block of 10 weeks. Children get into a routine of attending swimming lessons on a regular basis and its a great way for them to socialise and stay active. Interacting with other children in a group class can encourage motivation and a slight sense of competition which can help the childs overall development in the pool. Is there a downside? 30 minutes a week practising anything will show some progress. Personally, I see the quickest progress from those who given the opportunity to practice more often. Intensive Programs Intensive courses generally take place over the school holidays and usually require a booking for 5 days straight of swimming lessons. They can be great to keep your child entertained during the holidays! You are almost guaranteed accelerated progress in your childs confidence in the water. The short interval between sessions contributes to the retention and refinement of skills and the overall development of your childs swimming. If you have the opportunity to attend an intensive session my advice would be to enroll and commit to the 5 days. Its the equivalent to getting a months worth swimming lessons in a week! #irishinaustralia #irishinaustralia #water #babyswim #swim #swimming #babyswimming #waterbaby #babyswimmer #babyswimmer #babyswimmerz #goldcoast #queensland #goldcoastlife #toddlerlife #toddlerswimming #toddlerswim #toddlerswimlessons #toddlerswims #breeswim

17.01.2022 Is a 30-minute lesson once a week enough for some children? During the warmer months here in Australia, childrens water confidence and learning will accelerate because most parents are jumping in the water up to 4 times a week. With this, children tend to become very familiar with what works and what doesnt. They figure out how to move quicker, jump further, kick faster and as always- splash bigger -- without the need of a teacher.... When children become overly confident with the environment they will consistently push their own boundaries - All we have to do is keep a very watchful eye and celebrate the process. Play = Progress

16.01.2022 Dear Breeswimmers, With the imminent arrival of a new baby into my family and as Government, measures have increased in response to the Coronavirus crisis overnight, I have made the decision to close Breeswim classes effective immediately. Although the swim industry hasnt been directly identified as space where there is cause for concern, I am mindful about the need for everyone to comply with the distancing practices advised.... As such, a credit for the remainder of Term 1 will be made available to utilise when we are in a position to recommence classes. I thank you for your support and hope to see you back in the pool soon. I appreciate that its been a tough few weeks for everyone, and I thank you for your continued support and well wishes. In the meantime stay safe and well. Miss you guys already. David

11.01.2022 Tuesdays + Twins =

10.01.2022 Most of the time we only hear about drownings in the news. Almost never do we hear about the near drownings. Supervision will always remain KING in keeping our children safe around water.

10.01.2022 Personally I believe formal swimming lessons should be introduced at 4 months old. From birth it is important that we maintain that natural affinity babies have with water after being immersed inside the womb for 9 months. Babies learn by stimulation the water can play a vital part in introducing stimulation, whether this takes place in the shower, bath tub or swimming pool it allows for parent to create an environment where their child can learn and grow. Introducing this... water familiarisation at an early age can only benefit you when moving to more formal lessons in the pool. Two main reasons why we dont start formal swimming lessons younger than 4 months are: The Neck Control Between birth and 4 months it is common for a baby not to have the neck control to support their own head. Once they reach 4 months old, and show signs of head control, it makes it easier and safer to handle the child in the pool. Handling At 4 months old, new parents will have more experience handling the child. It is important to remember we want to create a safe environment where both the parent and child feel comfortable.

09.01.2022 Stuck at home with the kids? A great initiative by Laurie Lawrence and the team to push home the importance of water safety year round. When I first arrived in Australia back in 2004 I quickly joined the Kids Alive Show up in North QLD as they travelled around the country promoting water safety to the young and old. First day I arrived I got a speeding fine and didn't think I'd last the week but luckily for me i did!... If you haven't joined the Kids Alive movement over the years please do. Water safety should the forefront of education for our children growing up regardless of where you live. Stay safe

08.01.2022 Q. What would you consider a small class size? Some swim schools offer anywhere between 2 - 10 students per class depending on the age groups. Within the learn to swim industry here in Australia, there is NO set limits on the number of students a swim school can have per class. As a business swim schools needs to make money - bottom line. But at what cost do swim schools over fill their classes?... Quality? Safety? Regardless of the number of children per lesson its important to me that clients feel like they are getting value and seeing progress. Having too many in a class limits practice time and therefore limits progress. How much practice time does your child get per lesson?

08.01.2022 During a swim with my 3.5 year old son he turns to me and says 'Daddy, I love swimming, thank you for teaching me...' Anytime mate

04.01.2022 Everything always looks great in slow-mo! At the start of the year we installed a new Freshwater Filtration System. Over the years of Chlorine and salt use, the decision was made to move to a more sustainable and healthier option to maintain the cleanliness and quality of the pool water. No more red eyes or irritated skin is definitely a massive step towards more enjoyment for the children and parents.... I hope the addition of freshwater will make your experience at Breeswim that little bit more awesome.

03.01.2022 Whats Up!! Over the last few weeks Ive been throwing around a few different scenarios on how best to get Breeswim back into operation. I met with Lisa from LAPS yesterday and as were both eager to back in the water - we need to ensure that we follow the guidelines put in place so we can continue to move forward.... Next few days Ill be emailing out start dates and some changes that might affect the Saturday morning sessions. Cant wait to see you all. Newsletter Sign Up Form http://eepurl.com/bHvomz
