24.01.2022 Whilst I’m over here winging it, Maggie Dent may just be the closest person to have figured out how to actually parent. If you haven’t read her books or heard her speak, this might be worth a listen. #StrongerTogether #LivedExperience #OpenArmsPeers #VeteranFamily #MaggieDent #KidsAreWorthTheInvestment

23.01.2022 I got to spend time with my favourite boatie Z man while the Forge Through fishing day was underway. Veterans and first responders who have participated in the program are paired up with professional fisherman, spend the day on the water being real and checking in on each other. It’s made up of all the fundamentals that matter and none of the stuff that doesn’t:... - Time to slow, breathe, have some quiet and solitude - Genuine, meaningful connections with genuine meaningful people - Mastering the art of the catch, and all the stages before and after - Soaking in the awe, beauty and magnitude of nature on this beautiful land on/in which we live. I’m humbled by the generosity of the Forge Through team, the fishing community and locals who jump at the opportunity to donate time, produce and resources. It made me reflect about the pros and cons of emotional contagion, the power of the collective, and the capacity we all have to do good, to influence generosity, kindness and gratitude by just being and doing those things, sincerely. Keep it real. #MoreMoving #MoreMaking #MoreMeaningfulEngagement #Check5 #OpenArmsPeers #StrongerTogether #VeteranFamily #LeanIn

21.01.2022 How to deal with disappointment

19.01.2022 Nice day to be a fish! Forge Through

19.01.2022 Wow. Just when I thought I was feeling the tired start to kick in, clients go and move me beyond measure. I’m so grateful for the privileged role I have, and the beautiful people I have the honour of walking beside. I’m humbled and amazed at the generosity in faith and reciprocity, in the most raw and real times, and in the moments beyond.... It’s been a year. Good, bad, challenging, a leveller... Maybe it doesn’t really matter. Maybe what matters is sticking together. Keeping up the kindness. Giving ourselves permission. Checking in on each other. That’s what we do. Merry Christmas legends. Thanks for the faith. #Check5 #VeteranFamily #StrongerTogether #ArtTherapy #MakeMeaning #OpenArmsPeers #OpenArmsSupport

16.01.2022 You’ve got this NSW.

15.01.2022 Get your art on! You officially have permission to sit and make, or do something, or play, or learn something new, even if you have a backlog of responsibilities to other people. (Now that’s a fact because you read it on Facebook.)... #MoreMoving #MoreMaking #MoreMeaningfulRelationships #ArtMakingWorkshops #OpenArmsPeers #StrongerTogether #NotASelfieQueen

08.01.2022 Whilst we’re nearing the end of Veterans’ Health Week there are still loads of activities to get involved in. Check out this pearl from Miranda and Woronora RSL sub branches, combining the theme ‘get moving’ with the creative process, being in nature and time amongst peers - there are still openings so register your interest ASAP! #OpenArmsPeers #VeteransHealthWeek #OpenArms #NSWRSL

06.01.2022 Being the partner, parent, or child of someone can open up a world of new and exciting experiences, but it can also be challenging at times. There are worries, ...fears and frustrations, and in some cases, grief and anger. If you’re finding it hard, you’re not alone. We're here to support families of current and former serving veterans. Our counsellors understand military culture, the unique demands of military service and its impact on military families. If you, or someone you know, needs to talk, we’re here 24/7 to listen. 1800 011 046 #OpenArmsSupport

01.01.2022 If I’ve learnt anything from the quiet leadership that exists within the veteran community, it’s the sense of responsibility to lean in, be proactive, actively initiate and engage. We have a collective social responsibility to each other. Like a murmuration of starling birds in flight or a school of fish shifting through the water, as a collective entity, by being attuned to five others nearest to you, we shape something pretty magical. If there’s anything you need let me ...know, doesn’t work. Providing practical solutions usually does. Give me a call if you’re feeling untidy, doesn’t work. Having genuine, meaningful conversations usually does. Fuelling distress, polarity and disengagement doesn’t work. Supporting a balanced, considered and objective outlook usually does. So, it’s been a big year, it’s time we all lean in... Commit to reaching out to five mates and check in on them. Encourage others to do the same by sharing your photo with a #Check5 Enquire genuinely, listen without agenda. Things aren’t always as they seem. #Check5 #SquaredAway #CheckYourMates #OpenArms

01.01.2022 How good’s my Nini, dropped us a #check5 in between cracking onto the nurse and staging a walk off. Check on your mates. Check on your oldies. Check out the nurses (disclaimer, that’s Nini’s advice, I’m just the messenger). #Check5 #ReachOut #StrongerTogether
