25.01.2022 This boy worked very hard this evening! Lots of work to do still, but some really super moments :)
25.01.2022 An expressive canter transition from BJ this evening ... Things aren’t always perfect, but it’s these challenging moments that help us to become better riders! Good recovery and even better riding from @hopeful_equestrian221 who got BJ going really well after this little hiccup #emilybreezeequestrian #challengemakeschange
25.01.2022 Iggy is getting better with each ride! Due to his fitness levels and some stubbornness, his ‘thing’ is to refuse to go forward when he’s had enough. I’ve been able to get him through it each time and he’s been doing it less and less, but at the moment my focus is to get him more forward thinking in each pace and to convince him that it is actually quite fun! The rest will come ... He had his teeth done this morning, farrier this arvo and will be getting his saddle etc checked. As he gets fitter and builds more muscle he will find it easier and easier, but not pushing him too hard at the moment. I think it’s very important when bringing on unfit or young horses, to always finish when they still have some ‘petrol in the tank’, so they don’t associate being ridden with being worked into the ground and exhausted! #emilybreezeequestrian
24.01.2022 Handsome in red I attempted a first run through a test today just to see what would happen. It was definitely more of a freestyle added a rein back, a flying change and a few other bits that I am certain are not required in Novice 2a... but he was forward, willing in his upwards transitions and my shapes were more or less accurate. Of course more work and improvements needed but overall not too shabby for a first attempt with 0 preparation! #emilybreezeequestrian
24.01.2022 Day 10 - Sunday Shoutouts! #trotinto2021 @rivieraprltd Number 1 shout-out goes to my amazing husband Aaron Jeffery, who pretends he finds coming to the stables a chore ... but he spent an hour picking grass for Iggy to have in his stable and playing with him in the round yard this morning so I know he loves it really! ... Iggys mum @flying_fashion_changes is so supportive, drives us places, videos our lessons and is the voice of reason when at times I call her in a panic about the smallest scrape or bump or behaviour change Maddy Ciacia and I help each other out with feeding/putting out/ bringing in each other’s horses - makes life so much easier and I don’t know what I’ll do when she has to go back to uni! @daffyd747 for looking after Iggy whenever I am away. Not only does he do an amazing job, he sends me updates and pictures everyday which I’m sure every horse mum can appreciate! Highly recommend David if you are looking for someone to horse sit! Ebony at Peak Equine Services keeps Iggy feeling in tip top shape, Kane Hunt keeps him perfectly manicured, Webb Equine Veterinary Services are our brilliant vets and Catherine Cansell Equine Massage Services and Saddle Fitting keeps his saddle fitting well!
24.01.2022 Tired boy after our lesson with Simon today
23.01.2022 Great riding from @taniakoo_ this afternoon! Spice is just getting better and better! #emilybreezeequestrian #ottb
23.01.2022 #trotinto2021 @rivieraprltd Day 9 - what are you doing today? On a normal Saturday I would be flat out coaching all day, however the centre is still closed for the Christmas break so it has been nice to have a quieter weekend! Igg is still on box rest for a few more days, so we went for an in hand walk and graze, and he got pampered with some grooming and cuddles from auntie Sheridan! @sheri_leo
22.01.2022 New pony Spice! She’s a sweet little 6yo ottb, a little bit green but very quiet to ride which is why I picked her for the school. A little bit of work to do but she has the right temperament and is picking things up very quickly! Excited to see how she progresses over the next few months! #emilybreezeequestrian #justaspat #ottb
21.01.2022 I am a lesson horse. I am a horse that isn’t as recognized as the top hunter jumpers, the best western pleasure horse, or the 1D barrel horse, I am a lesson ho...rse. I am the backbone of the foundation to do all of those things. I am a lesson horse. I am not loved by one person. I am loved by several people. I don’t have my person, I have my people. I am a lesson horse. I will teach your child and yourself more than just to ride. I will bring your child out of their shell. I will teach your child about life. I will be yours and their shoulder to cry on. I am a lesson horse. I will bring my family the joy of teaching kids. I will bring my families business growth. I am so loved by my family, even if they don’t express it everyday. My family allows others to show me love and enjoy me. I am a lesson horse. At the end of your childs’ journey on a lesson horse, they will out grow me. They will find one that jumps higher, a horse that is show quality, a horse much faster than me. But, I will never outgrow being a lesson horse. I will be the one that loved your child and helped your child grow into the rider and person they are. I am a lesson horse. At the end of my time as a lesson horse; I will be covered in grey hair. Each grey hair came from each hour I spent as a lesson horse. I will be in a field of green grass, I will be taken care of as I was when I was a lesson horse. I will watch your child from across the pasture love her new horse. But, I will love your child more than any horse can. I will be the backbone of the business, the family, and your child. Don’t forget about me, I am a lesson horse. I am a lesson horse. *stolen from a friend *
21.01.2022 The biggest HAPPY BIRTHDAY to my long suffering husband ... thank you for letting me drag you to the stables every Sunday, thank you for understanding when I say I’ll be home at 6 it’s usually closer to 7, thank you for asking me relentless questions just because you’re trying to understand the sport I love, thank you for sharing my affections with Iggy and the dog! Happy 30th! I love you so much #emilybreezeequestrian #horsehusband
20.01.2022 Day 30 #trotinto2021 and it’s #selfiesaturday Iggy didn’t want to be left in his paddock this morning! Feat. my ‘I survived another summer of holiday camps’ under eye bags ... #emilybreezeequestrian #eatsleepworkrepeat
20.01.2022 Molly flying in her lesson this evening!!! #emilybreezeequestrian @molly_garven
20.01.2022 Time to Get Back into Your Riding! With COVID restrictions easing and events starting to run, are you keen to dust off the cobwebs under the expert guidance of ...an experienced coach? When you choose a current EA Accredited Coach, you know you are training with a qualified coach, who holds a current first aid certificate, a current Working with Children Check (if they are coaching people under the age of 18 years) and who is insured to be coaching riders in equestrian sport. Hop on and find a coach near you using our quick online search: https://www.equestrian.org.au/members/search/coach
20.01.2022 Heatstroke in horses As the warm weather hits, it’s time to start adjusting our routines to avoid the hottest parts of the day. Most Australian horseowners... are pretty aware of the dangers of exercising horses in the heat but it’s always good to have a reminder about the signs of heatstroke and a quick look at the best techniques for cooling a hot horse! Signs of heatstroke or hyperthermia are an elevated resting respiratory rate (over 30, normal is 8-16) and heart rate (over 80, normal is 28-40) and an elevated rectal temperature (normal is 37.5-38.5C). Lethargy, weakness and strange behaviour as well as profuse sweating and sometimes even a lack of sweating may also be seen. Left untreated hyperthermia can cause major organ shutdown and death! Obviously exercising in hot and humid conditions is the most likely cause but horses can also develop heatstroke at rest when shade is either not available or inadequately ventilated. Dry heat alone is not so concerning but the combination of heat coupled with high humidity, which inhibits the body’s ability to thermoregulate, is a real problem. Most studies consider hot conditions to be over 30C and high humidity is over 85%. Other risk factors for heatstroke are lack of conditioning to hot weather and anything that interferes with the horse’s ability to thermoregulate such as excess bodyweight. Simple measures such as riding early in the mornings, later in the evenings and staying in the shade are fairly obvious. Ensuring your horse is adequately muscled but not carrying extra condition will help and slowly increasing exercise intensity as the weather warms up will allow your horse to get used to the warmer conditions. Electrolyte supplementation is important as horses lose a lot of salt and other electrolytes in their sweat. These can be given in feed, mixed with water or in an oral dosing syringe. Always provide plain water as well when providing electrolytes in water. After exercise apply cool water to the whole horse, concentrating on large muscle masses and areas where major blood vessels run close to the skin, eg. the lower neck and inner thighs. Fans or misting systems are also very useful if available! If you think your horse may have heatstroke: - Stop exercise straight away and remove the saddle, saddle pad, blankets and boots. - Move to a shady and ideally breezy area - Hose the entire horse with cool water, scrape the water off and repeat. Scraping off is esssential as water left on the body surface can heat up and actually act as an insulator! - Offer cool water to drink - Call your vet if your horse does have heatstroke the earlier treatment is given, the better! Keep cool and happy riding! Image by Christel Sagniez from Pixabay
20.01.2022 Sooo happy with how Iggy is progressing!!! But he still gives me some shit, it’s like we have to have a little argument before the good work comes! (He has had everything checked teeth / saddle / back / feet and he is fine). My goal for the first few weeks was to get him moving off my leg without resistance, which we can achieve now! So this week I wanted to see if I could get him forward and improve the quality of each pace, trying to get him to seek the contact forward. We still have some moments where he draws back in the canter, and yes he is a little on the forehand... but one step at a time and we will get there! #emilybreezeequestrian #younghorse #warmblood #dressagehorse
20.01.2022 Contact is the hardest thing to teach!
18.01.2022 #trotinto2021 Day 7 #throwbackthursday @rivieraprltd My equestrian highlight of 2020 was Iggy coming into my life in September. I’d thought about taking on a horse for a while (eg not a school horse) but was always reluctant due to the commitment and already spending so much time at work around horses. ... However, after Mum being stuck with me for three months and coaching me on some of the school horses, I really wanted to find a horse for myself that I could work with, get out and do some training and compete with. I tentatively put word out, and Iggys mum @flying_fashion_changes got in touch with me, and we haven’t looked back since! I’ve absolutely loved working with him and I’m so proud of the progress we have made already I can’t thank Phoebe enough for trusting me with her baby! #emilybreezeequestrian
18.01.2022 We are powering along this week! #emilybreezeequestrian #younghorse
18.01.2022 A trip down memory lane Whilst sorting out the cupboard under the stairs I discovered pictures of Giotto and myself. God I miss that horse
17.01.2022 Day 8 of #trotinto2021 #followfriday - which equestrian account are you enjoying? I am really enjoying @feminist_equestrian account! Tackling some really important issues in such an articulate, honest and thought provoking way. Spreading positivity and awareness in the equestrian world! Everyone should give her a follow. Plus I am a little bit in love with her gorgeous Clydie cross! ... #emilybreezeequestrian
17.01.2022 I just love him Iggy is going so well - cracked the leg yields, carrying himself better, working on simple changes, introduced a few steps of shoulder in and even positioned some travers, we can now do rein back without getting stuck going backwards up the whole long side and we are both loving every second! #emilybreezeequestrian
17.01.2022 A little late joining the party, but here are my first 6 days of @rivieraprltd's #trotinto2021 I’m pretty hopeless on social media, so this is a great challenge for post ideas and to discover and follow some great accounts! Follow the hashtag and get involved! #emilybreezeequestrian
17.01.2022 Thursday pole day? Kids if you’re watching this - never let go of your reins and roll your stirrups up #emilybreezeequestrian #doasisaynotasido
16.01.2022 Camp week 1 Looking forward to a day off tomorrow where I can take my time with Iggy rather than rushing around trying to get everything done by 7.30am! He might even get a bath depending on the weather! Looking forward to Week 2 of camp next week followed by a little holiday away with the family #emilybreezeequestrian
15.01.2022 #trotinto2021 @rivieraprltd Day 11 - which show do you love the best and why? Ok, so this is a bit of a nostalgic one! Quality of photos not great as they are from around 2008-2010! Unfortunately I haven’t had the opportunity to go to any official shows since living in Aus (I have as a coach but not as a competitor- hopefully that will change this year!) I was lucky enough to attend many, many comps in the UK but looking back on my memories/childhood, the Pony Club Champion...ships were always the most fun! As my mum coached all of my clubs riders, across Dressage and the Dressage for Eventing, we would pack up our stuff and the horses and camp out there for the whole week! It doesn’t get better than hanging out with all your friends and your horses for days on end. So much fun and so many great memories #emilybreezeequestrian #ponyclubchampionships
15.01.2022 Great riding from Clare on the brilliant Otto this morning. He is a big horse who tends to get strong and downhill, so we used lots of transitions to engage him and get him to sit a little more on his hindquarters and lighten his forehand, making sure to ride from the seat and keep the leg on! @c.e.dressage #emilybreezeequestrian
15.01.2022 ‘I want to just ride’ - Say this to any seasoned professional in the game and they will look at you like ‘Oh honey’ You have to learn to be a rider, groom, h...orseman/women, business owner, lead a team, handle clients and alongside all this you’ve still got to muck out and pick a broom up until you can earn enough money to have someone help you do this whilst you are doing something else to earn this said money. ‘I want to just ride’ doesn’t exist and if you see someone doing that you have no idea how hard they worked to get in that position. So get sweeping my friend #reality #horseworld #equestrianlife #horseriding #horserider #dressagerider #truth #equestrianstyle #equine #horsemanship
15.01.2022 It’s the last day of our Jumpjng Equitation Camp and the last day of the school holidays! Our groups have been working hard all week to improve their style, rh...ythm and balance, and it all paid off as they jumped some fantastic rounds this morning! #neqc #nationalequestriancentre #kerrabee #showjumping #jumpingequitation

12.01.2022 #trotinto2021 Share your first picture of you and your horse and a recent one. From fuzzy winter paddock pone to summer sleek mature man. (Ok - not quite so mature yet )... #emilybreezeequestrian
12.01.2022 On holidays with my husband and family
12.01.2022 I hope that I am ‘The Lovely Trainer’ to someone! The bit where it says seeing someone walking away from a great lesson with a great big smile on their face is worth more than any medal
11.01.2022 Tuesday fun with two of the Stage 6 comp team riders! We have been really focusing on flatwork recently, especially the adjustability in the canter, and this has really paid off for the jumping. Today we worked on the rhythm of the canter over a small sequence of fences and being able to adjust the stride for the correct take off spots. You don’t have to jump big to jump well! Getting the important stuff sorted over small fences - rhythm, line, striding - means the bigger ones will be easy! Great work @hopeful_equestrian221 @aureliaa.equestrian #emilybreezeequestrian #showjumping #training #flatworkforshowjumpers
11.01.2022 #trotinto2021 Day 29 is the story of how I started riding. My mum being a rider and coach put me on a pony very early on! I rode at a riding school from the age of 2 (pictured here) until I got Kizzy aged 6. I have a very hazy memory of being led over a jump, this cheeky pony doing a bit of a leap and I fell off the side, but my little red wellies stayed in the stirrups ... #emilybreezeequestrian
11.01.2022 Maddy comes every week all the way from Tarago for a lesson! Today she brought Jenny along, as she has been having trouble picking up correct canter lead on the left rein. A few useful balancing exercises later and hey presto! Correct canter lead every time. Great riding Maddy! #emilybreezeequestrian
10.01.2022 Perfect day to blow away some cobwebs! #emilybreezeequestrian #canberra #act #kerrabee
08.01.2022 Definitely a problem in the Equestrian world. I know these people are probably just wanting to help others not just make a quick buck, but lack of knowledge can be dangerous. Or should I say thinking you are knowledgable without the experience and training to back it up. Often, when you do start your coaching training, you start to realise how much there is that you don’t know! Most of the problems and ‘quick fixes’ are due to lack of education. It certainly undermines those of us who dedicate ourselves and work hard to get accreditation and insurance.
08.01.2022 After being a terror yesterday, Iggy redeemed himself this morning! We have definitely found the GO button!!! Now we need to work on actually responding to a half halt and waiting aid in order to balance him... but at least we are going forward! #emilybreezeequestrian
08.01.2022 So happy with the new pony Spice and having lots of fun with her! She picks things up so quickly. In the two weeks she has been with us she has learnt: how to pick up her feet nicely how to stand still to be groomed and tacked up how to respect people’s personal space how to lunge ... how to stand still to be mounted how to accept the contact how to bend on the right rein what a sideways pushing leg aid is (somewhat!) Really enjoying working with a young horse again :) #emilybreezeequestrian #ottb #younghorse
08.01.2022 Brave boy Iggy did his first solo out ride this morning! I took it easy, as we are still getting to know each other - wasn’t sure if he would be spooky or strong but he was so good! A little looky at some things but a pat and some encouragement was all it took. We had a few trots up the hills, worked on responsiveness of his upward transitions and leg yielded back and forth across the main track headed out! Hoping to use the brilliant landscape of Kerrabee to get his head out of the arena, provide variety, get him more forward thinking and ultimately fitter and happier in his work. #emilybreezeequestrian #neqc #paddockschooling
07.01.2022 Carl’s brilliant article in the latest H&H, on the overall mindset and attitude required for young professional riders to thrive. Particularly like this one no matter how many medals you’ve won, we all still have to pick up sh*t.
06.01.2022 Sunny early morning rides
06.01.2022 Look how handsome!!! Swipe right for insta vs reality #instafail #instagramvsreality
05.01.2022 Back to work with a thud! Up early to ride Iggy, who initially was not too impressed to be working, however I managed to convince him to have fun and we had some good work! Two coach training lessons this morning, Marsha has her first ride on Armani which went well, and Nina had a SJ lesson before a trip to Simons tomorrow to do her Level 1 Jumping. Rest of the day swamped with call backs, emails, invoicing, accounts, rosters and generally catching up, before a day away from office tomorrow (going with Nina to Simons to try a horse for the school) Will need another holiday again by next week #emilybreezeequestrian
05.01.2022 Best ride yet today so happy! #emilybreezeequestrian
05.01.2022 It’s not even been a week and I miss riding him already! Little tantrums and all! Tomorrow we were meant to be headed to CEC for another lesson with Dave, so here is a clip from last lesson instead. #emilybreezeequestrian
05.01.2022 Armani was a good boy this morning, a little bit spooky in the wind but he is feeling looser after his course of cartrophen. The clover has got to Iggys brain and he is being a fidget bum stress head to get ready... including stomping on my foot this morning! On the plus side he has a lot more energy in his work... but have ordered some MagE to take the edge off. He is too big to be charging around when I’m trying to tack up! #emilybreezeequestrian
04.01.2022 Perfect day for a ride with my bestie! (and get paid to do it!) #emilybreezeequestrian
04.01.2022 They are ordinary girls, on ordinary ponies. From time to time, one of them vaults all the way over the pony and off the other side, misses the baton or rides too fast with insufficient precision. But it is the way they make mistakes that is so fascinating to watch: no one has a tantrum or rolls her eyes when her friend gets it wrong, or does any of the things adolescent girls normally get up to. Character. It is not an easy concept to imagine with its old fashioned elements... of manners, caring for your pony and your team mates before yourself, with a low tolerance for individualism and displays of temperament. They remain cheerful and focused, even when things go badly, and they work quite unselfconsciously, as a team. My Dad has been sorting out his shed and came across this article - The Trail Leads To Windsor, by Jane Shilling, 2012, about the WKMH PC mounted games team - myself, @speck6788 @emilyruns, Hannah and Abi in our preparation towards riding in front of the Queen for her golden jubilee pageant, All The Queens Horses. Fantastic memories! It’s amazing how much horses can teach us, most of which has very little to do with horses. #emilybreezeequestrian #allthequeenshorses #ponyclub #mountedgames #thegiftofhorses #character #teamwork #goldenjubilee #blastfromthepast
04.01.2022 Was feeling sorry for myself that I hadn’t ridden at all yet this year. Then I remembered I run a riding school and have a choice of 40 horses and ponies to ride Leroy was my first victim of choice (he bit me last week when a client was doing up his girth and my back was turned!!) He worked really nicely, considering he usually just plods along on the forehand and has no intention of making his chunky body bend in the middle. Despite making his initial thoughts on actually... having to bend on the right rein quite clear, (mid video) he got more supple with the work. He could be more consistent into the contact but bless him for trying his best for me!! Do I take him to my next clinic .... ?! #emilybreezeequestrian
02.01.2022 So happy with how Iggy is going! He’s having fun learning lots, including his new favourite trick at the end of this video Thanks @nc_dressage_aus for all your help #emilybreezeequestrian
02.01.2022 Armani had his obnoxious bugger head on today. After getting him working well in my last lesson, I had a plan for a gentle warm up and then briefly go over what we had practised on Monday. But no, Armani had other plans, like he was saying a big f u for making him work hard last time! Every point in the arena was ‘terrifying’, he was spooky, strong, unwilling. In the end, I managed to keep him listening for a lap on each rein and then end on a small win. In other news, baby Spice is going super well and learning so quickly, I am really enjoying working with her! #emilybreezeequestrian
02.01.2022 Our first outing together - completed Today we attended a clinic with Dave McKinnon at CEC. We had some really good moments, not without some challenges, but got some really good tips and advice - lots to work on! Look forward to putting it into practice. @mckinnonsporthorses #emilybreezeequestrian
02.01.2022 Iggy managed to scrape himself in the paddock on New Years Day. Just a very minor cut but resulted in a fat leg! Box rest, antibiotics and anti inflammatories for the next week. Lunch times spent hand walking and grazing him. Fingers crossed for a quick recovery. Didn’t want to go our clinic this week anyway What a start to 2021! #emilybreezeequestrian
01.01.2022 Meet Iggy! He is a 7yo warmblood and I have just taken him on this week. He is a real sweetheart but can be a little bit cheeky! His owner has taken it slowly with him as he’s taken a while to grow into his body, so we have a long way to go but taking it one day at a time. Really grateful that she is trusting me with her baby and I’m excited to see where this journey goes! #emilybreezeequestrian #iggy #piggyiggy
