25.01.2022 This Wednesday Vicky Dawes of Queensland Doctors' Health Programme (QDHP) and I will be facilitating the Rural Doctors Association of Queensland (RDAQ) forum on peer support. #nowmorethanever #breezelifecoaching #wellbeingatwork #qdhp #dhasq

24.01.2022 Cultural differences: one of the first things I had to learn when I moved to Australia is how to use titles. In The Netherlands is very much not done to introduce yourself as Dr... when you're a medical doctor, unless you have a doctorate. In Australia people seem to get confused if you don't use it. So it has taken me some time to not feel embarrassed when introducing myself as Dr van der Steenstraten. Or seeing it used on invitations. This however, is an invitation I'm actually proud of. Afternoon tea with the Governor at Parliament House in support of the Haemophilia Foundation Queensland . I guess this is what Brené Brown means when she talks about owning your story. #haemophiliafoundationqld #owningyourstory #bleedingdisorders #awareness #brenebrown #breezelifecoaching

24.01.2022 We would like to introduce Deborah Bateson who will be one of our panellists for an interactive Q&A session. Deborah is the Medical Director of Family Planning... NSW and has worked as a clinician, researcher, educator and advocate in reproductive and sexual health for over 20 years. She holds honorary positions as Clinical Associate Professor, Discipline of Obstetrics, Gynaecology and Neonatology at The University of Sydney and Adjunct Professor at the Centre for Social Research in Health at UNSW, Sydney. Deborah’s main focus is on access to high quality contraceptive and abortion care information and services and she supported the introduction of domestic violence screening, and more recently screening for reproductive coercion, across all Family Planning NSW clinics. Deborah has published widely and provides frequent expert commentary to the media on a wide range of women’s health issues. 15.01.2022 This is why we have developed the AMA Queensland Wellbeing at Work program. To help doctors help themselves and change a toxic work environment. In the 5 years that I have been presenting the program, I have seen that some progression has been made but it's clearly not enough yet. Systems don't change systems, people change systems. #wellbeingatwork #amaqueensland #breezelifecoaching #doctorshealth https://www.abc.net.au//bullying-in-medicine-poli/11980240

15.01.2022 I am PROUD that my Wellbeing At Work program is mentioned by the Queensland Minister of Health, the Hon Steven Miles. I am DISAPPOINTED that many of the unhealthy issues that junior doctors face are still not resolved. I am DETERMINED to continue my work to help individuals find healthier ways to deal with stressors. This means on a personal level and by supporting each other. I am GRATEFUL for the trust that AMAQ and Queensland Health have shown in me to do my job well. I am... LOOKING FORWARD to another week of working with junior doctors, they are such an inspirational group to work with! #wellbeingatwork #amaqueensland #breezelifecoaching #RHHC2020 @amaq_cdt https://twitter.com/9NewsGoldCo/status/1321357016707801088

10.01.2022 The workshop 'Selfcare for Healthcare Professionals' for trainers at the Rino Mental Health Education Centre is going on right now. This is the second workshop in one week. I really enjoy being able to present this "in" The Netherlands from my office in Brisbane. De workshop 'Zelfzorg voor Zorgprofessionals' voor Rino docenten is in volle gang! Dit is al de tweede die ik deze week geef. Leuk om vanuit mijn werkkamer in Brisbane weer "in" Nederland te werken! #covid19 #breezelifecoaching #rino #workfromanywhere

08.01.2022 Oh, how I agree with this! Workers in the frontline fighting Corona should feel they can seek support freely.

06.01.2022 Friday 5th June is Crazy Socks 4 Docs Day. It’s an event all about raising awareness of the mental health of all doctors and health practitioners around the wor...ld. The idea is to don your craziest socks to help start and normalise the conversation about mental health. No matter who you are, anyone can get involved and enjoy the day. We’ll be putting our best foot forward here at Team Joy. #crazysocks4docs

04.01.2022 In my work as a psychiatrist and the last 5 years while presenting the AMAQueenslands Wellbeing@Work program I've encountered a lot of stigmatizing of mental health problems. At least, Covid-19 had put health and wellbeing at the forefront of our minds. Today at this year's AMA Queensland Women in Medicine breakfast we had some of the key persons in Qld/Australian policy making as panelists. Bretine Curtis, Queensland Mental Health Commission Interim Executive Director, Dr Ow...en Hutchings, Medical Director of RPA Virtual and of course Dr Jeannette Young, Queensland's Chief Health Officer. This was all excellently chaired by Doctors' Health in Queenslands Education Officer and Counsellor, Vicky Dawes. What a great start of the day and thank you all for your hard work! #mentalhealth #wellbeing #wellbeingatwork #covid19 #healthcare #amaqwim20 #dhq See more

03.01.2022 It's not too late to register if you'd still like to attend the online Masterclass 'Mindfulness' that I'm presenting for the National Council of Women in Queensland.

02.01.2022 Do we need to draw up a different graph? Where are we now? Australia has done an incredible job so far to contain COVID-19. Our communities and services have worked together to limit transmission, treat those affected and prepare for a situation like that seen across Europe and the US. ... And yet... while we seem to have thus far bypassed an overwhelmed health system, we seem to have moved to a stage of cautious optimism, tempered by challenges that were perhaps less anticipated or prepared for, such as the financial and mental health impacts of the changes to GP and Emergency practice (telemedicine, how to manage potential covid patients and fewer presentations with other health conditions) and the pausing of elective surgery. While the initial anxiety and increased energy phase may have passed, we cannot get complacent. We need to make sure that we are continuing to prioritise the physiological and psychological safety of ourselves and our teams and to build and maintain our emotional wellbeing and connectedness. Take a moment to reflect on your own emotional fuel gauge. Are you feeling: isolated or connected? taking care of yourself or bare essentials only? doing ok or feeling burned out? feeling emotionally regulated or more irritable than usual? To download Minding Healthcare Workers: Psychological responses of health care workers during the Covid pandemic by Margie Stuchbery go to: https://dhasq.org.au/coronavirus-covid-19-information/ As always, the Queensland Doctors' Health Programme is available for confidential support on 07 3833 4352.

01.01.2022 Good news, the DHQ Connect groups are now open to all GPs and GP registrars in Queensland. You can still sign up for tonight's session or next week. See below for more information. #dhq #breezelifecoaching #GP #covid19 #connectedhealthcare
