02.01.2022 Did you know that playing board games can help support your child’s development? Not only are board games super fun for the whole family, but they can help develop a range of skills: Fine Motor Skills ---- Picking up small pieces, rolling the dice, handing out cards...there are so many board games that help strengthen fine motor skills through encouraging the use of small hand movements. Gross Motor Skills ---- Try mixing in some different challenges with a board game t...o help develop your child’s gross motor skills. Sitting on the floor cross-legged can help with their core strength, or ask them to hop, skip, or balance while waiting for their next turn. Social Skills ---- Whether they’re playing a board game with family or friends, the process requires the use of social skills to ensure a fair, smooth and fun experience. Things like deciding who goes first, or working together if they’re in a team with someone else, greatly contribute to enhancing social skills. Emotional Regulation ---- Playing board games can help children understand how to regulate their emotions, especially when they lose. Encouraging the importance of saying things like, That was a great game, or Thanks so much for playing, can help them regulate their emotions and strengthen friendships. #occupationaltherapy #otresources #OT #boardgame #paediatrics See more
