23.01.2022 Imagine having your own slice of North Queensland rainforest. This property is amazing and has just come on the market with Morgan from Ray White Atherton! Total peace and privacy and oh, ... the serenity! ... You know what to do. Give Morgan a call on 0407 730 450.

22.01.2022 Fong-On Bay. In loving memory of our mate Dennis who joined the stars in heaven yesterday.

21.01.2022 You know, the Atherton Tablelands really IS the jewel of the north. We are seeing so many couples now, coming from areas all over Queensland and even interstate to be married here on the Tablelands. One of our favourite wedding activities is photographing gorgeous little elopements at Mt Quincan Crater Retreat. The views from the old volcano are beautiful, rural, and rustic. You know what you have to do? Call Rachael or Dee at Mt Quincan Crater Retreat now. I'm sure they'd be happy to show you around and help you plan your elopement or secret getaway. Congrats to Karina and Chris on your beautiful and very special day last week at the Crater. It was an honour and pleasure. https://mtquincan.com.au/

20.01.2022 O.M.G. Every now and then we get to photograph a property where, every time you step into a new room, you say "Wow!" This Herberton property had that elegan...t French provincial styling, traditional archways, ornate ceilings and inviting verandahs. I could just see myself relaxing by the fireplace with a nice drink and letting the rest of the world go by... You know what to do. Give Collette a call at Atherton Realty on the Tablelands. 0419 733 712 https://www.realestate.com.au/property-house-qld-herberton-

17.01.2022 Up north, near Maytown is the old Enterprise Mill. It was installed during the excitement of the gold rush days and apparently, never paid for itself. Today it sits quietly in the bush, a reminder of some fascinating Queensland history.

16.01.2022 Moomin was a small community on the Wild River near Herberton. The railway went through in 1909 and what a wonderful thing that must have been. There was a siding at Moomin, just up from this wonderful old bridge.

16.01.2022 Located in the Girringun National Park, Blencoe Falls are as spectacular as they are ancient. Just 110 kms south east of Mt Garnet, the falls are a pleasant drive from Atherton, or you can travel up from the coast via the Kirrama Range Road. The initial drop is 90 metres followed by another 230 metres of cascades to the bottom of the gorge. The Blencoe Creek joins the Herbert River about 2 kms from the falls. I chose to shoot the falls at sunrise and I'm glad I did. This is such a special place in North Queensland. https://brendanmacrae.com/shop/

15.01.2022 In commemoration of National Police Remembrance Day, police, their families and community members will pause on Tuesday, September 29 to pay tribute to fallen officers. National Police Remembrance Day is held every year to honour police officers across the country who have lost their lives and ensure the integrity, courage and bravery of their ultimate sacrifice is never forgotten.

15.01.2022 The mighty Herbert River, named by the explorer Dalrymple after Robert Herbert, Queensland's first Premier. Its headwaters form on the Atherton Tablelands and it enters the Coral Sea near Lucinda. The Herbert, along with the Tully and the Burdekin have long been part of the proposed Bradfield Scheme, an idea to irrigate large areas of western Queensland. Once again, not long ago, I found myself in beautiful north Queensland, waiting for the light. This shot shows the junction of the Herbert River and Blencoe Creek, not far from the famous Blencoe Falls. The vastness and majesty of this ancient landscape is truly awe inspiring. I am so glad that this is my office.

12.01.2022 We support our Emergency Services.

11.01.2022 "And at night the wondrous glory of the everlasting stars..." A.B. "Banjo" Paterson. If it has been too long since you sat quietly around Lake Eacham with your love, then tonight, is the night. The weather is beautiful, the nights are still and the Milky Way settles over the lake from about 8pm until after midnight. Why not bring your camera and a tripod? I'll tell you this for free, it's better than ANYTHING you'll ever find on TV.... This was my shot through a gap in the trees this evening. I don't have a name for it yet but I'm quite pleased with it.

09.01.2022 The Tableland Mill at Arriga. Like, comment, share if you have worked there.

08.01.2022 Saturday in Mareeba and another cohort of young adults stepped out in superb style for the Mareeba High Formal 2020. We were privileged to photograph such a fine group of students as they spent some time with us at Wongabeena Gardens before the big event. Congratulations to Jezabel, Netahnie, Konnor and Riley. You are a credit to yourselves, your families and your school. We hope you all had a wonderful evening.

08.01.2022 This one is a bit wild, a bit crazy, but hey, sometimes you've just got to live a little! Did you know that complimentary colours, (like yellow and purple) were described by Leonardo Da Vinci as having the finest harmonies? Many filmmakers use a colour grading of teal and orange, again opposites, because it just seems to work. ... This image is combination of six images taken from the BBQ area on the path at Lake Eacham. My assistant on that shoot was a lovely little possum.

07.01.2022 I think this could be my favourite image so far from the Palmer River in Far North Queensland. These are the old Cornish boilers at the Queen of the North mine. The marvelous thing about photography is that we can at least capture an image of our historical sites, regardless of the deterioration that occurs over time. Can you imagine the excitement and hope for riches in the area that saw so much heavy equipment transported up to the Maytown area?

07.01.2022 Today we remembered the service and sacrifice of nearly 60,000 Australian veterans during the Vietnam War. Lest we forget.

05.01.2022 It's Monday morning, I'm stuck in the office processing images. I thought I'd pop outside to see who was making all the racket in the grevillea tree. If you're stuck on the computer, here is a 50 second break. Enjoy!

04.01.2022 75 years ago today people in Cairns listened as their Prime Minister Ben Chifley told them that the war was over. It marked the end of six years of war - the lo...ss of life, the daily grind of censorship, shortages and sacrifices for the war effort. Locals took to the streets to celebrate and a young soldier called Bruce Downie took his camera. These are our favourites. #lestweforget #ww2history #peace #cairns See more

02.01.2022 What should I call this one? Taken at Herberton today, opposite the police station.

01.01.2022 Hands up everyone who has admired "The Chimneys" at Danbulla. Tonight, the stars aligned, literally, and I was able to fulfill a long held goal of creating a beautiful photograph of these structures. The Tablelands Regional Council website gives a nice precis of the history. "Two brick chimneys are all that remain of Hanley and Clark’s home and sawmill at Danbulla. The original soldier settler house was built in the early 1920s and replaced, in 1924, to accommodate Bill Han...ley who drew the block in a ballot. He was joined by his brother-in-law Thomas Clark and together they operated a sawmill until about 1935 (sign at site is incorrect). William Hanley (c1883 1946) enlisted and served from 1917 to early 1919 during which time he was injured. He was mining at Kingsborough later that year with his wife (sister to Thomas Clark). In about 1924 he and Clark moved to Danbulla. He later worked as an assayer in Cairns, mine manager at Thornborough (1936) finally moving to Stanthorpe where he ran a cafe until his death in October 1946. Thomas Clark (1893 -c 1952) served with 52nd Infantry Australian Imperial Force (AIF) from 1916 1918 when he returned to Australia injured. After some years at Kingsborough he joined Hanley at Danbulah until the mid 1930’s when the Clark’s moved to Cairns. The Chimneys is now a picnic site on the Danbulla Forest Drive between Tinaroo, 20kms north and the Gillies Range Road, 15kms south. The chimneys are each 7m high, built of red clay brick and rendered to about 4 metres. Each contains two fireplaces back to back and measuring 770 x 990 x 470mm deep. They are slightly offset from one another and show evidence of mantle-piece securing points and floor joist points." Tonight, and each night, the chimneys stand as sentinels, as the Milky Way rises to silhouette them. PM for print enquiries.

01.01.2022 Last night I continued in my quest to record and honour some more of our wonderful heritage here in the north. This time it was Mt Molloy and the old Johnston's Sawmill Steam Plant. The remaining structure is at corner of Santowski Crescent and the Peninsular Development Road, Mount Molloy, Queensland. It was built from 1914 to 1954. I love the explosion of foliage from the top of the stack.... Once again, there is a link to the pioneer, James Venture Mulligan, who is buried just down the road. A nice account of the history is found here. https://en.wikipedia.org/w/Johnston%27s_Sawmill_Steam_Plant

01.01.2022 If you ever want to enliven your imagination, invigorate your soul or just enjoy this beautiful country and her colourful history, set up a camera under the stars among the ruins of an old mining town. Sit and listen in the dark. Imagine the voices, the smell of the furnace, the sound of the machinery, the summer heat. Thousands of people lived and worked on the Palmer River goldfields. Hopes and dreams, hardship and loss were all found on the field, along with quite a bi...t of "colour." Today there is mainly silence; tonight, mainly stars. Here is my version of Comet Mine. The history is the real gold.
