21.01.2022 It’s compost turning day and my very skilled volunteers have risen to the occasion. With some easy gate and pallet positioning I am able to open up our compost bays to our feathered friends which in turn opens up the afternoon for me so I can focus on sipping tea in the winter sun. 12.01.2022 After several hot composts this year the last batch was fairly neglected and as a result, burnt through it's nitrogenous content quickly resulting in a slow and cold brew. I was recently gifted some pigeon poo and sheep poo so I decided to fire it all up again. Layers included; garden green waste, lawn clippings, autumn leaves, old compost, chicken run mulch, pea straw, pigeon poo, sheep poo and kitchen scraps. Mixed all together and moistened up I am interested to see how it... turns out. The correct ratio for a good balanced hot compost is 25-30:1 parts carbon to nitrogen... What was mine? No idea... Sometimes you just have to jump in with what you have, see how it brews and adjust accordingly. #compost #composting #hotcompost @ Preston, Victoria, Australia
