25.01.2022 Yet another article about how well-placed Western Australia is to cash in on the electric vehicle push globally given our secure supply chains and abundance of lithium. Yet another article quoting the latest price of lithium... from a price-reporting agency .... in #China ?! If #Perth wants to take full advantage we need to grow a local #financialservices industry right here focused on the future.

24.01.2022 During my working day at @claritycommunications_, and then when I'm undertaking @cityofperth Council duties, I am constantly surrounded by brilliant women making a difference. 50% of Western Australia's Capital City Council is comprised of women. Our Deputy Lord Mayor (@sandyanghie_forperth) and the most powerful figure in the administration (CEO @michelle_reno) are women. Most importantly, they are all absolutely killing it as part of the new team working towards changing ...your local council for the better. #IWD2021 #perth #westernaustralia

23.01.2022 #Perth is nothing without our small business community. Cafes, retailers, cobblers, butchers, whatever business they're in, we need them. Small business owners pay rent, huge outgoings like their council rates, they employ locals and they create the amenity we desperately need in our capital city. Get out this weekend and spend some cash, it all goes around!

21.01.2022 *Confidence in Perth's CBD is building* Thanks to the Perron Group for inviting me along to last night's launch of the $16 million refurbishment of Central Park. As one of Perth's pre-eminent commercial buildings, its occupancy levels are a good guide on the health of our capital city's economy. This investment shows no matter the challenges facing our city at present, we have a big future ahead of us. If you're walking past, check out the artwork in the lobby, it's worth the... visit alone. #cityofperth #perthbusiness #perth

19.01.2022 *City of Perth Council meeting summary* There are some great local wins here including new lighting in East Perth, more street trees across the city, community consultation in Nedlands, and improved transparency reporting.

18.01.2022 There are some encouraging figures here for Perth's CBD. From around 50% a few months ago to 75+% in October. While encouraging, we must adjust our forecasts when it comes to parking demand (the City expects $55 million in parking revenue for 20/21 - far too high) and how much space businesses actually need (this will impact commercial property valuations and how much the City takes in rates). With lower foot traffic, there are fewer customers for retailers. We need to act ...on two fronts. Firstly, if the City doesn't cut costs soon to meet these obvious revenue pressures, it'll be too expensive to operate in the CBD. Businesses will continue to close. Secondly, we need to leverage the $1.5 billion Perth City Deal by creating new planning and rates incentives to invite a new wave of investment. We need a bigger population rather than relying so heavily on daily visitors. We cannot do it without the state and federal governments promoting Perth to the world, but the sooner we realise doing nothing is the worst decision, we can get on with it. #cityofperth #perth #westernaustralia #citydeal

13.01.2022 Taking back control of Western Australia's capital city and prioritising outcomes for our diverse community. That's the brief summary I would give after spending four intense weeks with the new team. We're making real progress and you'll see this over the next few meetings. Check out https://www.perth.wa.gov.au/council/council-meetings to keep up to date with our latest initiatives. ... Budget repair, a real focus on neighbourhoods and families, reducing the burden of red tape, and putting us back on the global stage for new opportunities are all on our agenda. This is a great group of councillors all working for #Perth.

13.01.2022 Throwback to last Thursday's @nuheara's launch at @wanderlust.perth w/ @basil_zempilas Great to see another business expanding in the @cityofperth by choosing the Hay Street Mall

10.01.2022 We're providing more family-friendly events in the city

06.01.2022 *City of Perth Council Meeting - 3 November 2020* As we’ve settled into our new roles on the City of Perth Council, last night we held our first full meeting to discuss and finally vote on a range of issues. I’ll keep you informed of each council meeting as we progress throughout the next 12 months before my re-election in October 2021. While the Lord Mayor rightfully received questions about his conduct on radio last week, there’s no need to further divide and destabilise th...Continue reading
