25.01.2022 Great to be invited to launch our #CairnsRegionalCouncil 'Recycle Right' Campaign at our new $15M Material Recovery Facility at Portsmouth, Cairns this morning. Keep it simple. Keep it clean. Keep it coming 'round. Go to recycleright.cairns.qld.gov.au or call 1300692247 for more information. Waste management, recycling and the circular economy are environmental, economic and social imperatives coming at us at a rate of knots and residents and Council must work together to not only be ready but ahead of the game. Thanks to Council officers, Scott Paterson (Waste Education Officer), Samantha Kay-Spratley (Waste Contracts Officer) and Telita Reuben ( Waste Contracts Officer) for assisting in today's launch. #RecycleRight #MaterialRecoveryFacility #RecoveryWayCairns

10.01.2022 At the Governance and Economics Committee meeting of Cairns Regional Council on Wednesday I moved a General Business Motion asking Council officers to investigate further safety improvements for Greenpatch campground to allow some flexibility in respect to closing and opening times for the traditional wet season November through to April. This was on the back of community and small business feedback noting the economic driver to the local business community that the RV and domestic drive tourist market brings to the town. #Greenpatch #gordonvalechamberofcommerce #trolleycoffee

07.01.2022 Thank you to the #CairnsPost for running my opinion piece in today's edition of the paper 'Green light for economic reset' and by-line 'We need to bring sense and sensibility back to the centre of the green industry debate and depoliticise the word Green'. Great collaboration to bring it together and message that we not only have an opportunity but a responsibility to explore green industry initiatives as an economic and social response to Covid19 that not only helps recovery but sets us up for growth and the diversification of our regional economy. #CairnsRegionalCouncil #RDATN #DrScottDavis #DaleEndby #davidkempton

05.01.2022 My letter to the Editor of the Cairns Post yesterday outlining my view on the partnership approach to CBD revitalisation needed and our Cairns Regional Council initiatives to date. It is complex but is nothing new in terms of other cities CBD issues or Main Street development for rural and regional towns. We know the challenges, but a continued negative focus will not assist and an entreprenurial and innovative mindset looking to opportunities presenting to rejuvenate and refresh and a can do attitude is a great first step. Not 10 reasons why we can't but 1good reason why we should try, and then go and make it happen. #PowerOfPositiveThinking2021 #SupportingOurCBD #MakeThingsHappen
04.01.2022 Cairns Regional Council free green waste drop off extended to include this weekend after Cyclone Niran's blow on Monday. #freegreenwaste
04.01.2022 My letter to the Editor in today's edition of the Cairns Post highlighting the issue around land resumptions in Division 1 from the Department of Transport and Main Roads duplication of the Bruce Highway project. This project is needed for safety, efficiencies and connectivity to Cairns City. However the Acquisition of Land Act brought in in 1967 needs to be reviewed in terms of allowing a component of compensation for emotional harm suffered by the affected property owners as is the case in NSW and VIC. I am strongly in favour of working with residents and community to lobby the Qld State Government to bring about amendments to address this issue. #peoplepowertobringchange #landresumptions #propertyownersrights
04.01.2022 At Babinda today for St Rita's Catholic Schools 'Walk for Daniel' march down and around Munro Street. Local Acting Sgt Justin led the way and we followed. 03.01.2022 Another special morning with students from the #mirriwinnistateschool today presenting their leadership badges for the 2021 academic year. Another of our smaller schools in terms of numbers but huge in heart and soul and importance to our rural communities in Division 1 of the #cairnsregionalcouncil area.
03.01.2022 The official opening of the new roof at the Cairns Tennis Centre this morning, a $2.2M joint project between #CairnsRegionalCouncil and the Federal Government saw special guests Australia's World No 1 #AshBarty and #JohnMillman and rising Qld stars attend to play exhibition games. Athletes #CrBrettOlds and myself got the money shot with Ash whilst social distancing.
